Corzette, you asked about my stall, I am running a 5 speed manual. I don't know the flow numbers on my heads, World products may have some general info that I can get. Grumpy, I am running block huggers, don't remember the size of the tubes off hand. Just your standard low end block hugger I'm sure. They both go 2.5" at the collectors then meet up and step to a 3" single. My rear end is a a stock R200 and I can't recall what that ratio is at the time either (brain dead today). Somebody can chime in if you want. Est static compression is around 10:1 (I was told) This is not a race car, drive it a few times a week for a 50 mile round trip to work so keep that in mind. I just want to try and get the full potential of the major components that I have. thanks for all the good input.

My heads are quite a bit better than the SR's that comp cams tested with. I have an old Hot Rod article where they tested these heade (I actually modled my motor after the one they built) In the end, they got 415 hp with the same heads and cam that I have fed thru a performer RPM and edelbrock 750. Stoopid question, what's a timing loop?
-
Is this a common problem among middle aged men? Here's my build and I'll list the results below. SBC, .030 over, flat tops, Sportsman II heads, small chamber, 2.02 valves, Comp cams Xtreme energy (CS XE274H-10), can give specs if needed, torker II intake, holley 600, Hei with MSD coil and 6AL box, block huggers running thru a 3" single with a flowmaster at the end. Oh Yeah, T5 tranny. Here's my numbers, I expected more, tell me if my expectations were off or if my setup is off. Numbers are at the rear wheels. MAX HP 274.5 @ around 5800-6000, rev limiter was set at 6000 and it was still climbing. MAX torque was 288.4 at around 4200 Fuel mixture was lean all the way thru, avg around 15, spiked to almost 17 at 3700 rpm. What do you guys think. I have a performer RPM intake ready to go on, also have an edelbrock 750 to play with.

Cool John, sounds like we have pretty much the same setup. I have the spacers as well on the crossmember. Tell me more about your engine setup, 501 hp is pretty impressive out of a 350. Was that tested on an engine dyno or in the car. I've got some pretty decent parts on mine and am not even close to those numbers.

I am using the JTR setup.

Hey JT1, I just checked the edelbrock web site and the RPM Air Gap is the same height as the regular RPM. I had a drop air cleaner on my car with a standard performer and it was close. Can you please give me some info on what air cleaner/carb you are using? I am pumped that I may be able to use my RPM but don't want to make the swap to find it won't clear. Thanks a bunch. Jeff
-
I wonder if the air gap is any shorter than the regular RPM. I didn't think either would fit under hood. I know basically how to tune my carb, but like you said, without the 02 sensor or a dyno, takes a lot of guess work. My motor has some blow by so my plugs tend to get oil wet which makes it hard to read them for fuel mixture. Other than that, seat of the pants is about all I have and that is highly suspect. I appreciate all the input though. What carb are you running on your air-gap? I have heard great things about those intakes, I have a regular RPM hanging on the wall but may have to get the air gap, especially if it is shorter. Thanks Jeff

I plan to put a dual plane back on as I do notice the loss of low end with the torker II. The performer RPM I believe is the best choice for me but won't fit under the hood and I haven't found the right cowl hood (in my budget) yet.

I tend to agree with you guys, I am only making probably 330 to 350 hp tops. I threw a Edelbrock 750 on there that I had laying around. I like the way it idles, lopes a lot more than with my 600 (I know, lower intake velocity). It bogs a little when the secondaries upen but then really sings once it catches up. I talked to a tech at Edelbrock and he said the secondary jets are too large out of the box for my app and told me which ones to try. It seems to rev much better with the 750 then the 600 other than the initial bog. I guess I either need to jet the 750 down or the 600 up. Probably better overall performance to jet the 600 up right? thanks Jeff
-
I did a tailpipe emisions test on my Z and she is way too lean. I have a holley 600 in which I have already opened up the jets. The dude told me I needed a 750 double pumper. I have never had one so I don't know much about them. I do have a Edelbrock 750 that needs a few parts but that guy said not to use it. (he didn't like them) Anyway just looking for opinions so if you have some, fire away. My motor is a 30 over 350 with flat tops, sportsman II small chamber 2.02 heads, Comp Xtreme energy cam and currently a torker II intake. Soon to be a performer or performer RPM. Est 10:1 static compression. Thanks, P.S. If anyone has a holley 750 for sale, let me know. Jeff

While were at it, I am trying to figure out what gap to run my plugs with the MSD box and coil. I don't know my compression ratio but I am running Sportsman II heads, 64cc, with a comp cams CS XE274H-10 bump stick in it if that helps. According to the manual for the box, I think I should be around .050 gap but I wanted to make sure I wasn't mis-reading it before I did it. thanks Jeff

Bulbs are not lighting at all, nor are the dash signals doing anything. Flashers however work perfectly on all accounts. Thanks.

I bought myself an MSD 6AL box for my birthday and it should come in friday. I was just wondering where you guys mount them. Without having it in my hand yet, the only reasable place I see is on the firewall between the hood latch and the master cylinder. I'm not really in love with that spot so looking for ideas. thanks Jeff
-
Thanks Tom, I have wiggled and jiggled all that stuff, tested the switch itself with a meter and the fact that the flashers work makes me think that the bulbs, and connections at the bulbs must be good. I could be wrong on that but assuming all that is good, it sends me back under the dash and the only thing I can see there that I don't know how to test is the flasher itself. I'm fairly good with electrical and have been beating my head against this for almost a month now. I'm sure it's something simple, just can't freakin find it!
-
Enough smart_ss responses guys! I need some help and get a bunch of comedians! Does anybody know how to test the flasher? P.S. I checked the fluid level and it was fine.
-
Do the turn signals and flashers use the same flasher relay?
-
My blinkers in my 76 won't work at all. They were kind of Intermitent, but now nothing. I tested the blinker switch with a meter and it seems to be functioning perfectly, My flashers work, but no turn signals at all. Do they use a different circuit than the flashers? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Inspection is out and can't get it done. Thanks Jeff

I have decided to stay with a standard shift but has proven that my T5 won't handle my motor. I know about the T56's but am leaning towards the smaller lighter (I assume) TKO trannies. Is anybody running one of these, is it a close fit for replacing a T5? Does anyone happen to know the standard gear ratio's on a t5? I have read that the TKO 500 has a very short 1st gear, TKO 600 is better but of course more $$$. Lastly, does anyone have any connections on the tremec, would even consider buying a used one. Thanks Jeff

I put AC in my sbc powered 76 280 but the car was already equiped with ac, just had to change the compressor and adapt the lines. Not sure if I would be of any help or not. Jeff

Plugs look ok, they have a little black on them from the aformentioned blowby I guess, but the electrodes looked pretty good. Maybe a little lean though, they all had an area that was fairly white.
-
thanks Grumpy, I know I am getting some blow by and sucking oil thru my pcv tube. I wouldn't be suprised if I had a plug or 2 fouled. I'll start working down your list.

I recently put a new comp cam, torker II intake and roller rockers in my Z. It seems like immediately after I did this work, my car seems to have picked some vibration above say 3500 rpm. It is bad enough to make shift earlier than you want to. Before, I could wrap it out as far as I dared and never noticed this. It starts to pull really good then right before it hit's the shakes. I have been told it may be a tuning issue but not really sure where to start. Anybody got any ideas on what the cause of this may be? thanks Jeff

thanks for all the help guys. Now for the stupid ignorant question. What do 200-4r's come in? And does anyone have one to sell me Jeff -
Let's say I want to handle 400hp (not there yet, but ain't done yet) Since my T5 can't handle my motor already, I have to do something and am considering going auto. I need overdrive as I do use it as a daily driver quite a bit. What are my options? I have a 700r4 laying around that is totally stock but I don't know enough about auto's to know what it would take to make it handle the hp/torque. Thanks Jeff
