  1. If your running a 305, you don't need more carb. It is possible that yours is gummed up or not tuned properly though. Along the lines of what Tim is saying, I had a sticky mechanical advance and it made it crap out on the top side. Get a timing light and make sure your dizzy is working correctly. jeff
  2. What carb are you running, sounds like maybe your secondaries are kickin in with no fuel. Been there done that, acted just the same.
  3. Forrest nailed it, just a loose connection on one of the plugs under the column. thanks guys! Jeff
  4. It did just happen and no, I have not recently installed a stereo. I'm thinking the light switch as well. Have not torn into it yet though.
  5. Cool, thanks. To expand on the 4th question. So to use the LT1 bell housing, I need a flywheel, clutch and pressure plate? I think I've read that my t5 slave will work, is that true? I want to do this right, is this the better way to go or is the afermarket bell a cleaner install. If so, who sells it? thanks again Jeff
  6. I have been searching the archives and am only getting more confused. I think I want to replace my t5 with a t56 but have some questions. Will a t56 that was behind an LT1 bolt directly to my mid 70's 350? If so, what years did chevrolet use the T56 behind the Lt1 to help in my used tranny search? I have read about adapter plates needed to bolt to older blocks, what's that all about, I thought all SBC 350's had the same bellhousing mounts (not LS1 of course) Will my Flywheel and clutch/pressure plate from the t5 setup work on a t56 that is setup for an Lt1? Thanks for any input, I have been struggling over this tranny decision for soo long it driving me crazy! Jeff
  7. mind if I hijack for a minute? I may be doing a T5 to T56 swap. Will my flywheel, clutch and pressure plate work with the T56 or is something different about it. Thanks and sorry for the hijack. Jeff
  8. Headlights work, blinkers and brake lights work. Gauges are working but don't light up and tailights and marker lights don't work. Anybody got any ideas? I've checked fuses but that's all so far. Thanks Jeff
  9. I'm all over the place on this tranny thing. Missed out on a good deal on a G-force T5, now I am thinking along the lines of a T56. Can somebody give me some pros/cons on the T56? How much power/torque can it handle, how hard is it to fit into place following a T5? I want to make a move pretty fast, My car is feeling pretty strong with the tunnel ram on it and I know my freshly rebuilt T5 is just gonna fail again if I drive it like I want to. Thanks Jeff
  10. I called edelbrock and they seemed puzzled. Said it is only a clearance issue. Maybe my intake is an older model or something.
  11. My intake is an Edelbrock. So if they fit (which they do), then I'm good to go? I didn't know if there was some technical reason that they needed to be turned.
  12. Oops, I was just reading on Edelbrock's web site and under my manifold it list that the 9776 holley (what I have) is used for sideways mount only. I have mine mounted straight. Can someone explain why they would have to be sideways mounted? Dang I made some nice linkage parts that won't work if I turn them!
  13. This seems strange to me, I was checking my vacuum yesterday and at idle, I get about 8 psi at the manifold and between 1 and 4 at the carb (depending) on which one I check. Anyway, when I rev it up, the vacuum climbs. I didn't go WOT but the more I revved, the more vacuum it pulled at both locations. That's not right is it?? Grumpy, I have not checked my power valves yet to see if that's why I have the low vacuum on one carb. Maybe tonight.
  14. Great stuff Grumpy, I can't wait to get some free time to start studying. Have basically bolted the thing up and drove it around the block. I did check my vacuum last night. My 450's have one vacuum port (pretty high up on the body) but my results were strange. One carb was showing little to no vacuum (maybe 1 or 2 psi) and the other was pulling about 12 psi. Again, I haven't even turned a screw on these things as I really wasn't sure where to start. All in all, it runs good, idles good and takes off good. I have already figured out your comment about you can't stomp it, but if you roll into it it sings! thanks Jeff
  15. Hoods? Hoods? WE DONT NEED NO STINKIN HOODS! I actually picked up a spare with a little rust on the front that I will patch up and cut a hole in. I do kinda hate to cover it up though!
  16. Thanks John, please expand on the vacuum comment. I got the carbs (450 CFMs) off e-bay from a guy who was runing them on a SBC stroker. I just slapped them on there and fired it up. Hopefully they are pretty close but I have not tuned them at all. This kind of setup is new to me so I don't even know where to start.
  17. Thanks. Tell me if it works! http://videos.streetfire.net/video/50f99411-ce65-476d-b30d-fc78dfe1c843.htm
  18. I just put a Tunnel ram with 2 holley 450's on my Z. Got it fired up last night. Don't know how it's going to perform but it looks nasty. I have a short video clip of it idling in the driveway (about 8 meg), but have no place to host it. Can I e-mail it to someone and get it up here? Thanks Jeff
  19. Heeee Hee, I think I figured out my problem. It seems that the vacuum secondaries on my carb are not working. I bought this carb as a referb and it is possible that they never worked! I've been driving a beefed up 350 with a 2 barrel carb on it for quite some time! I went from a quadrajet to this carb and always thought it was odd that I didn't feel the secondaries come in but compared to the q-jet just blew it off as a diff carb. I think that explains everything from the low hp on the dyno to the lean mixture. If it has been broke for a year then I may have run 12.7's on a 2 barrel carb! Needless to say, I'm pretty pumped to get it straightened out. Thanks for all your input Jeff
  20. Thank You, Thank You and Thank You. Got em fixed...and it wasn't the gosh darn blinker fluid! I think the main culprit was a bad connection in the harness to the flasher switch. Thanks Calpolyz, your tip was the final step to resolution. Thanks Okimoto for confirming the 12 volts for me. Ended up replacing the flasher but I think I fried that in testing. Anyway, all is good, can get my insp sticker on it and then tear it apart again. I have a dual holley tunnel ram that I am ready to put on and knew I would never get it inspected like that. That's why this little problem was driving me so crazy! Jeff BRAAAAPPPP!
  21. Ok, I'm still fighting this problem. I'm in the process of in-depth troubleshooting but need some help. Would anybody be so kind to check the green wire going to the turn sign flasher and tell me if it has 12 volts going to it with the key on? I know it is a lot to ask as you must lay on your back onder the dash to get to it but I don't know how else to tell. This problem is kicking my but.
  22. Not sure why I was thinking you dyno in 3rd gear, it would have to be in 4th gear right?
  23. I have a question about how the dyno calculates. They run it in third gear right? He entered my car as a 76 z (which it is) but with a different tranny, thus possibly diff gear ratios, could that throw the calculations off? I guess I am trying to understand how the # is calculated with these variables. Maybe it has nothing to do with all that, just got me wondering....
  24. No problem, I find myself doing that to everyone else's threads so I understand. I have it saved as a .jpg but don't know how to post it here. Any help?
  25. I think we are losing track of my thread. Thanks to all for the useful info but I don't plan on changing heads any time soon. Just trying to optimize my existing motor. Peace Jeff
