  1. A while back, I read an old post that had some setup tips from the JNJ guys on how to make a Z launch. One part was about limiting the front end drop with a chain, that one is pretty self explanitory. The other was about limiting how far the rear would squat. How are you guys acheiving this? I have a coilover setup so I can adjust my height, but was looking under there and want some ideas on how to limit the travel. I plan to run at Houston Raceway Park this friday so any help would be appreciated. What I really want, is to get the front end off the ground! I think I have enough power, not sure if my clutch will bite hard enough to do it though. Thanks Jeff
  2. I'm impressed by all the pationate responses to this obvious rant. Phil will do the right thing... If you need some council, contact me....was married for 9 years, divorced last year, Have my Z, I kick butt honda 450 motocross bike and a couple of 7 and 8 year old girls that break my heart everytime I send them to "mom's". Jeff
  3. I'm with you rat fink on the need to have something sticking out off the hood. I am currently running the dual quad tunnel ram on my 383, which is very streetable by the way. Is my dream though to have a roots style blower on top, just for the coolness factor. I love my motor, many thanks to grumpy and a few others for help with the build, but if I ever destroy it, will builld a lower compression one and put the blower on it. Jeff
  4. I very seldom run my front bumper. Can't see that causing a problem. Jeff
  5. I work in Humble so my Z travels between the two cities quite often. Sorry skipjobe if we are ruining your thread...
  6. Your In conroe? Bring that thing over. Is your tuning right on your motor, ignition timing etc? If your not using your ac, pull that condensor for sure. Made a big difference on my car. Jeff
  7. As I suspected, it was the balancer moving. It scares me to think of how much timing advance I had in it for those two passes...
  8. I finally went to the track to try out the stroker with the tunnel ram. Car was running about .7 off my last outing and seemed flat on the top end. Only did 2 passes and best was a 12.2 at around 110 mph. (last time out was doing 11.5 at 120 ish. Anyway, I had checked my timing before my first run and to my suprise, it showed to be way off, like 10 degrees after tdc at idle! I rolled the dist around to 12 btdc and locked it down. Reved it up and the mechanical advance took it to 35 ish so seemed to be working right. I then proceeded to make my 2 passes and with my poor results, I checked the timing again. My dist had not moved, but it was showing ot be way off again like before. I called it quits for the night and came home. I have not had much time to mess with it, but I did try another timing light to rule out that. I think maybe my balancer may be slipping and thus throwing the mark off. Short of that, would have to be an issue inside my Mallory Unilite dizzy or maybe an MSD box issue. Will pull a plug and rotate #1 to the top tonight and look at the the balancer mark. If that proves good, anybody got any other ideas? I do not have vacuum advance hooked up, so that is out of the equation. Thanks Jeff
  9. Way to go Phil! as a dad of two girls, one 7 and one 8, that was a heart string jerker! Jeff
  10. Just curious, you titled this thread as 420 rwhp, have you dyno'd it or is that an estimate. I'm not trying to bust your chops, your 1/4mile speed is right were mine is so we should be in the same range of rwhp but I have not dyno'd this setup. thanks Jeff
  11. Here is a "family photo" I took this weekend. My Uncle owns the two trucks, this is his retirement home, basically a huge red barn with a house inside and lots of space to build hot rods. The Blue Celica is my brothers and of course the Z is mine.
  12. I like the way you think. That is actually my dream. This motor has too much compression so my plan is if/when I blow this one up, will try to budget a blower motor.
  13. Thanks, it really looks mean with my wide street slicks and runners on it. Only problem is the whole sleeper thing is out the window like this. With the stock intake and hood, it is way faster than it looks, set up I this, it is slower than it looks!
  14. thanks guys, sorry for the lack of response, been out of town. I have not run this motor with the tunnel ram yet. I ran my 11.5 with the old setup. Now that I have a hood on it, will 1/4 mile it first chance I get.
  15. I didn't want to cut up my good hood so I bought a junker and had it in primer. Finally got around to painting this one. Not perfect, but looks a lot better than flat black.
  16. Finally painted my tunnel ram hood.
  17. If you haven't gotten what you are looking for, send me some details and I will see what I can do. Jeff
  18. I agree with above, everytime mine breaks, I get ticked at it, but then I fix it/make it a little better and love it again. Go fast cars are always going to go thru this cycle so just ride it out!
  19. Seems a high to me.. Let's sat you started with a decent stock Z for around $1500, you could build a pretty sweet ride for 9K. Just my opinion, Jeff
  20. I removed the spring mechanism on my hood hinges when I was using my fiberglass cowl hood and now I want to put it back together so my hinges are spring loaded again. Only problem is I can't figure out how it went together. Anybody done this or at least have a pic of how the bars interface with the hinges so I can try and figure it out? Mine is a 76 by the way. Thanks Jeff
  21. I'm trappin 95.5 to 96 in the 1/8 but that is with cheater slicks so I am getting pretty good traction. You will be coming on hard in the big end I am sure.
  22. I don't know dude, haven't dyno'd it but based on my 1/4 miles results, don't think I am putting 400hp down at the rear wheels.
