I have a 79 s130 and i just replaced the intake/header gasket, and it was like a kind of paper gasket. I torqued it to the 15 lbs that the manual recomended, and it ran fine for about a few weeks, then it gradually started running rougher. I have no exhaust leaks, but i do have a header with 2.5 inch msa exhaust all the way back. It kinda hisses when you accelerate, sounds like an exhaust leak, but its not leaking, and it seems to come from inside the MAF. It also run smooth then gets rougher as it warms up. ill also mention that i plugged the egr. so it was a little on the lean side, so i richened it up a bit. It also started backfiring a bit, i thought it was because it was rich, but i leaned it out and it still back fires, the back fire occures every time i let off the throttle, it just starts popping bad. Does it sound like i might have a intake manifold leak and jsut needs retorqueing? or are there other underlying problem that arise when pluging the egr?
