  1. Well thats good news. I was actually seriously looking into Ford F100's. I found some nice ones within the $3000 range. 5.0L V8 with a T5 tranny, 1968 or something. My father informed me that the used car market is pretty good right now, which is exciting. Hopefully I can get rid of this Honda without any hassle.
  2. Of course it's never good like that but I don't see a problem with running it as long as you don't spin the motor up a lot... You might also want to try BHJ Dampers. They sell L-series dampers with trigger wheel setup, sensor and sensor bracket, for $500. The damper by itself is like $370 or something. Maybe RB motors will be around that range.

    tranny options

The truck tranny will fit on an L28... L4, L24, L26, L28, will all share the same rear bolt pattern, they should be interchangeable.
  4. Well that's easy. He bought the Drill Doctor thing from Harbor Freight but as I said, I don't fully believe in it. Their tools seems to work fine but any appliances we have purchased just suck. I remember he bought a tumbler and when you saw it in action it was almost as humorous as one of those shaking belts that make you lose weight by jiggling your fat layers. When you're all done getting jiggled, you're still fat and your rolls are chafed. The tumbler didn't clean much of anything.
  5. We don't do any really hard metals, they're just dull because of over 20 years of use. It was really starting to piss me off this weekend when I was trying to fab a fuel cell mount and had to drill twelve 1/4" holes. Typical 1/4" bit of his is REALLY dull since its a popular size. I had to drill like a 1/64" first and then open it up with 3 more bits until I could get the 1/4" through. And that was just sheet metal welded to angle iron. He pulled out his nice bits and they had the flats on the part that go into the drill. I initially thought that was nice so that I wouldn't spin the drill around a stuck bit... however when those bite, instead of spinning in the drill, they nearly break the machine. If its a hand drill it sucks even more. Goes right along TonyD's tool post. Drill press: meant to throw objects across the shop into something valuable. Oh and he does like to keep all Craftsman for the warranty but if this doesn't have it then I won't be bias.
  6. The thing he has is like this pretty much, so I guess it holds 29 or 30 bits: http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00980210000P?prdNo=6&blockNo=6&blockType=G6 I see titanium coated stuff, is that fancy talk or is it actually good? If I get Craftsman, will they replace broken bits like they do for their other tools? I figured it would be the standard lifetime warranty. I'm seeing there is a huge price range for these bits. Must be a "you get what you paid for" type thing.
  7. Hey guys, hate to be posting ANOTHER thread. Curious what are some good drill bit brands? My dad has more than a few sets of bits but they're getting old and very dull. He bought some drill bit sharpener from Harbor Freight, I have a feeling its going to be another appliance from that store that doesn't do the magic it claims. Figured I'd get him a full set of nice sharp bits for metal drilling, that will stay sharp for a while. Wondering how much they go for and if places sell full sets. I don't know what a "set" is defined as but I know Dad has this metal case about 7"x4" and it has 3 rows that go from like 1/64" up to... I don't know 1/2"? I'll get a picture of what I'm talking about. It holds probably about 30-40 bits. If I have to buy them individually I hope they aren't $5 a piece!
  8. I've seen that applied to pulse jets.... Just sayin.. Use to be really interested in these motors. Phased out. Now I want to build another one! Thanks a lot!
  9. Looks kinda like a Trust header... I think... There are so many kinds out there... John knows more than I do. lol
  10. And all this is to keep the engine from over heating or is it about cooling the rear cylinders? Pete I meant to ask you, what sort of progress rate are you looking at for this build? Sometime soon or a long term thing?
  11. If you had oil pressure there should definitely be oil in the passage with the sending unit hole. That same passage goes to the oil filter. I didn't prime my pump either on my rebuild. It didn't help either that the pressure gauge is electric so its very slow to changes. What I did was get one of those cheap hand pumps used for pumping tranny fluid (since obviously you can't tilt the bottle). I then unscrewed the sending unit, stuck the tube into that hole, and pumped that oil galley up until it started coming back out the hole I was pumping into. I screwed the sending unit back in, and was good to go. Are you saying you have no oil at all coming out of the sending unit hole when cranking/running? If so, read on. The oil is sucked up from the pickup, down a galley to the pump, then pumped down the galley where the oil filter and the sending unit is. If there is no oil coming out of that hole, you don't have oil pumping anywhere else. If you have no pressure, presumably, no oil coming out of the sending unit hole, that tells you that the problem isn't after the oil filter (somewhere else in the motor), but it is before it. The problem is either a clog in one of those two galleys, or the pump itself. I would say check the pump to make sure if for some odd reason it doesn't have a bypass valve/spring in it which would keep the pump from pumping. I find this to be unlikely though since you went through so many pumps already. Get a rifle cleaning rod/brush and run it through those two passage. I'll attach an illustration (yes I know it's of an L4) to help show you what I mean. I drew in a red line marking the localized area where you will hopefully discover something. The star denotes where the sending unit hole should be, before the filter:
  12. Pete, do your clubs allow for showing proof whether they ran that sort of stuff back then, maybe? I know CVAR down here says if I can provide documentation or a photo of a certain setup, then I can run it.
  13. Sorry Pete, I promise I won't rob your thread. I'm eager to see how this works out for you. I too was curious about the horsepower thing but didn't want to speak up. Goodluck Pete. I wish the best and hope you don't end up with another "bad day at the track" box.
  14. Are those dampers or pulleys? If they're dampers, they look pretty old. How is the rubber inertia ring? I'm curious if it has held up over the years or if the outside has spun.
  15. Trying to have a good time man, that's half the fun of all this Z stuff I find myself doing. I'll have to read up after trying out some and I guess drop the questionable ones from there. I use to read gun reviews all the time but there was just too many "this is great!" and then "this sucks!", like 50/50. Or I'd read/watch a review and some people who are really into guns will poopoo a firearm because of very minor things. I remember looking at a WASR AK47 and people complained about the magazine slap and I'm just like.... *glares* its a $400 AK47, it still fires fines, what does it matter. Oh well.
  16. It would be unfortunate if this thread was shed'd just because two people feel strongly about their positions. Moms always give good advice. My moms words to me were moms know everything. I believe her sometimes. Any news about Taurus?
  17. Looks like I shouldn't have said "At least we don't hate each other. Or do we. " I'm not even going to respond. So I need to know some brands I suppose. I always looked at Taurus to be pretty affordable but I don't know about their quality? I also located some old pictures from 3 hard drives ago. I had a little chuckle when I saw this, since we're talking about guns'n'such.
  18. Yah or he could just carve you and wear you like a jump suit. Buffalo-Bill is probably the most popular dude in prison. I always thought he had a cool idea with the skin suit. I don't know if you've ever seen those shoes that have the individual toes and they're thin like slippers. Buffalo-Bill had that idea first. Just cut their feet off, hollow them out, wear them. Oh and to clarify again, if someone was attacking you with something that will obviously kill you... like not their bare hands. Even someone apparently as idiotic and crazy as myself couldn't shoot another person if they weren't coming at me with an object that would definitely screw me up.
  19. Lol sticky I'm not going to be all hush hush, modest, or act like its a taboo. Perhaps you explain why you got your license instead of being like "I hate all these people that get their licenses because it makes them feel safer". Ironic to say the least. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion though. At least we don't hate each other. Or do we. Lol once again Sticky, do twisted my words to fit your frame of thought. I think we would all rather be in jail than dead, unless Buffalo Bill was in the cell with you. You're getting yourself all bent out of shape over something you perhaps misread or maybe blatantly altered so you could provide a point of argument. With that said it seems like either A: you didn't read anything else I posted or B: you read what I posted but you're in such a tizzy that you didn't really think "oh wait he's not the type to go blazing into a gun fight". But that's ok. Yah, I could stop the long posts and quit "arguing" but once again LOL due to the fact that this thread wasn't about whether I should have a CHL and all of us have been reminded about that more than once yet it still continues. I'm not ignoring your posts but I truly am reading and moving on (don't get confused into thinking that I'm like "what he says doesn't matter) so we can get back to proper discussion. Both of us could agree this is an endless loop of "you're a retard" "no I'm not" "you don't need it" "I feel like I do" thing. No wonder gun laws are always so... "complicated" As for the 1911, I'll bring it anyway, thanks though. Once again, I'll bring it, you'll scream but do you even know if I plan on using it as a carry or maybe I just want to shoot it for fun? We're aware that they make smaller version of the gun right? Chill. I don't like hammer-less guns, sorry that offends you dude. What's my reason? **** I don't know I just don't like them, sorry bro. If I'm good with a gun that doesn't have a hammer then fine. And Nick, you're all popular now! I need you to weld two linkage post things onto a manifold of mine. I got an old turbo manifold, cut off the rod support things that the throttle shaft rotates within. I don't know if the manifold I have is aluminum or magnesium though. Tell me how much you want for something like that. Probably like 6 inches of weld at most. Should take more time to line the things up than weld them. I'll get pictures.
  20. David I get what you're saying. I was hoping with the statement "I've honesty never been in a fight before" kind of concluded that I'm a pretty chill dude and let most everything slide under the impression that tomorrow is a new day. Once again, I understand the difference between a scuffle and a life threatening situation. Is 9mm a government issued round now? Nick, we should go shooting sometime. If I can talk my dad into letting me bring his 1911 along and then maybe you bring whatever you have so we don't have to rent. I think my only beef with Glock's and some of the Springfield's is that they're hammer-less. Not really a fan of that. My brother in law's Springfield and that XD45 was hammer-less. Must be a compact thing? Are Glock's double action? I feel like I've heard that from somewhere.
  21. Honest truth here I've never been in a fight in my life. Once again, I wouldn't know any grappling moves or anything. Something to learn, I know, however the whole making a comment thing and speaking up. What I was getting at is I say hey stop, and the guy gets up in my face, that sort of thing until it eventually gets violent. The type of people I'm talking about, don't have a problem being true one on one. It's not any certain races, age, gender, its just how they come off around here. The way I view it and I'm probably way wrong, but in this area, I'm the one receiving looks at you like you're the reason why such and such went wrong in their lives. To me, if anything were to happen, we would be lucky if anyone did anything about it. By the time police arrive, well you know, things happen quickly. Now I'm probably very wrong, there are probably a lot of good souls around to save my sorry ass in the event that I eat asphalt. I get these opinions by the total carelessness of the way people go about doing their business. Total disregard for well... everything. From the looks of things I strongly doubt anyone steps in. Maybe the two or three people I helped move stuff into their apartments, do a good deed thing. I could see it being like a high school fight where you just let the two "work it out". I know my thoughts are based on illegitimate support but the fact is that I'm highly judgmental and this is how I see things. If I'm wrong great, if I'm not I'd hate to find out. To me and to many others what it comes down to is self defense. I know the difference between me saying "hey **** licker you're and idiot", subsequently making the person mad and getting beaten compared to saying "why don't you give the girl some respect" and getting ganged up on. Now you may be saying learn some hand to hand combat. Yah, I could, however if something is coming at me I could just as well place my hand behind my back motioning I'm carrying and announce to the world "make me feel like my life is in danger" (something along those lines that doesn't provoke). Don't even draw a weapon and have the thought of what COULD happen run through the persons head. Then IF/WHEN I get taken to court for using too much force, as the one corner worker told me, good luck having 12 people all agree that I blatantly wounded or killed someone just cause I thought it was Grand Theft Auto or that I wanted to pick a fight. I didn't rattle off any sort of situation where I might simply motion that I have something until now. All other times you rush in, woa woa woa pump your brakes Josh don't shoot people. Quite frankly you don't know when I would use a weapon, you only know that I can't shoot a steady group (can you blame me after 8 shots?), that I would like to purchase a gun that would be good for carrying, and that I'm not in college to be a lawyer therefore I as of right now I don't know all the rules. I'd like to say one more thing that if you ever find yourself in a genuine defend your life situation, if it were me I wouldn't thumb through all the laws in my head within that split second, I would defend myself even if I had to break a law. And then once again, like the corner worker told me, good luck getting accused and if you are then fine send me to jail because it would be better than dead. I'm just getting sick of some of you being like YOU DON'T NEED A CHL THINK ABOUT IT. I'm not some boy wonder playing video games thinking sex, drugs, and violence is the coolest thing in the world and watch Saving Private Ryan ten times over so I can see some poor dudes guts hang out while he cries out for his mom. I don't need to get the whole "this isn't a game" lecture. With all that pent up rage out now, would you like to offer up some gun ideas so I don't have to rent out the whole shop? I'm planning on going to "The Shooters Club" in Fort Worth. Perhaps you know the place since you're from the DFW area, they have some very appealing rates. EDIT: LOL Tony I was going to ask you if you ever felt safer/the need to carry since you work abroad. I remember you posting something a while ago along the lines that you got mugged or whatever? I could see feeling insecure in a foreign country on business. Curious about your thoughts on it. Surprised they let you carry such big guns around. I would have thought policies and laws would complicate things so much to where you feel like its not even worth the time carrying. The head shot thing showed up I a few years ago I think here in Texas when some SEAL guy got a burglar in the head. All sorts of viewers voice opinions were interesting to listen to. Ranging from "that's was terrible" "wrong" "inhumane" to "good shot". My dad did the same thing with his M1. LOL A long time ago when we lived out in the country he had it behind the seat ready to go with the banana mag. He sold the truck and when the guy folded the seat down it was like awkward moment... large gun... the dudes eyes bugged out That doesn't come with the truck, sorry!
  22. The girlfriend thing I said with basically meaning I would like to speak up and say hey cut it out but not if I'm worried about the consequences. Obviously I'm not going to be like "would you mind yourself" to a bunch of thugs over here. Call me a wimp or whatever but as Ron White said "I don't know how many of them it would have taken to get me down, but I know how many they were going to use". The best thing to do now is just walk on and ignore it. Once I know I have someone or something backing me up, then I would speak up and say stop. You could argue "well they wouldn't do anything anyway" but I don't know that, for all I know they could jump me and in that case like I said, I would be ready. The same applies for the times it happens to me. Please, lets not discuss whether a verbal argument is good enough reason to pull the trigger, that's not what I'm saying but I anticipate someone making that statement. That's really just one tiny part of the big picture, it's not my main reason nor my only reason so don't even go there telling me if its valid or not. I'm not here to ask for valid reasons to carry a weapon. To clear things up, in the first post, all those aspects about the guns, were arguments from the corner worker I was with. If it wasn't for him I'd just make the decision to go with a 1911 and maybe regret it. Thus the reason why I made this. Obviously I can't make a decent argument even if I thought it through for a full week because I don't have experience with anything other than rifles. Sticky, cool your jets hot shot, I could be like you and have my license but choose to not always use it, and I probably will. All that aside, indeed I am clueless, I know! Why else would I be asking? We don't need to be getting to critical here, there is plenty of time to make a decision, a full year! The argument of "he can't aim, he doesn't know the law, and he's not old enough" is out! I said, I'm not carrying until I get a CHL and even then, I don't have anything to carry.... AND EVEN THEN when I do have something to carry (if it's within this year) I will be taking it to the range to have some fun and practice so I can do a good job in the CHL school/classes thing. "He doesn't know the law" well damn Sticky, will I not learn it during that class they make you take? Will I not learn self defense 101 what I can and cannot do in the course? Lets not get all puckered up over the CHL thing. Sticky, you said you owned guns, ideas for good compact carry weapons, etc? Hoov, I can see it being a scary situation. I frequently ask myself that question. Nerves frayed, trying to reload if you even carry an extra load with you, would be tough. I definitely now see where getting in there and hands on comes into play. I'll have to look into my fathers 1911 to see if the ergonomics are any different than a typical GI 1911. If it's similar then I'll need to swoon him into letting me use it at the range next time I go. Seriously, I hope people actually read this post. It appears everyone is so eager to speak their mind after reading the first couple of posts rather than the entire thing.
  23. Lol Tony I told you the corner workers are screwy! These were the points about a revolver that the one dude this past week told me when I argued. Next time you see the guy in all whites, go around and see the type of characters. Cool dudes, but like I said once you get talking they speak "words of wisdom" in their minds. In fact the one hippy dude from 3 weeks ago explained to me how to properly use a condom. I didn't even ask. He too was from California.
