  1. ok... so i convience O'Reilly's to order me two motors in for free just to look at. Ordered an 80 280zx and a 94 honda accord sedan EX. the 80 model will pretty much bolt right up. The 94 honday motor is smaller than the 80, and is VERY easily adaptable. All i would have to do is take a dremel or a grinder to it and make the rectangular notch that mounts to the wiper bars. very easy. I know how fast the honda wiper blades are as i drive one currently, But how fast is the ZX wipers? same speed as the 78 280z? or faster? the difference in price is about 40 bucks.... the zx is 80 the honda is 121. Let me know what ya think gonna pick one up sat after friday's paycheck. -Ed
  2. check your altenator connections as well, but if you have spark and the timing is right... there is no question... it's a fuel issue check the fuel bulbs see if they are full or empty. -Ed
  3. So your down in spring? I live in the Woodlands... Just north didn't know you made the move finally
  4. ok so i was about to buy a doulbe pass radiator from rondavisracing, but as usual i wanted to look up what double pass actual did to the radiator... found some interesting results... i think i might just stay with the single pass. http://www.stewartcomponents.com/html/tech_support/techtip5.asp What do you guys think? Makes sense.. and i'd glady like to save an extra 50 bucks plus the pain of re-routing the hoses. -Ed
  5. How does it feel with large tires... Well i run 17's with 205 up front and 215 in back. when i ran my 14's even with good tires i hated driving in the rain.. made me very nervous. Now with the added weight of the 17's and the better tires it's like i'm suction cupped to the road. Puddles at high speed are no problem... cut's right through them. Also unlike many people have written on here... my car is EASIER to turn with the wider tires than the stock ones. At a dead stop yes it is harder to turn the wheel, but i NEVER turn the wheel when stoped once rolling it's easy as cake. Cornering... oh boy... can it stick anymore? The car can easily take a 90 at 40 without making noise. The handling is wicked. you'll be very happy.
  6. now i would definatly like to see pictures of the roof being hacksawed out and composite layed lol
  7. Yes, i'd be interested in the number, or an email. Kinda funny... yes seeing a 350z wrecked is bad and hurts, but i think it's not as painful as seeing and old 240 or 260 or 280 wrecked... you can always have another 350 made ya know? -Ed anybody know where i could get seat dimensions from? wanna make sure they will fit first.
  8. Those are exatcly what i was looking for a long time ago. Those are the turbo styled vents. two of those puppies on the hood Heck yeah! I dont' see a price... have you ever called and recieved a quote? -Ed
  9. maybe somebody has wrecked one already and i could take the seats
  10. I'm not sure what an NACA duct looks like.... i was just looking a generic scoop i could add.. was thinking about one on either side of the raised hood edge on the center... so the ducks would angle out continuing the curve, but i think im not going to do it because i don't want to ahve to worry about water problems again, had a nightmare with rain in my EFI 280.
  11. Yeah i'm sure the taper does promote even air distribution along the cylinders. but i seriously doubt they spent months.. test fitting and testing in labs and the on cars to perfect the product... but yeah i agree the tapper is useful. either way i'm gonna make my own intake how i wanna make it and that's the bottom line. I'm also debating about putting a scoop on the hood and fabing up a ram air intake. Haven decide for sure yet, dont' know how the scoop is gonna look on the hood.
  12. Ok so my friend's g/f got a new 350z just last week. Gunmetal touring edition, maual of course. Well we meet up with her after work last night and i asked if i could sit in her car. She handed me the keys and i got in and sat down. Besides loveing the whole car in general, I absoulety fell in LOVE with the seats!!! Her car had heated seats and I believe they were leather... dark beige or an orange color (it was dark and late). But anyways... i got to thinking about putting a set of these into my 280 instead of racing seats. They felt like sparco's or recarco's. Fit me perfectly. Question is... does nissan make a black interior? and can i get the seat in a cloth with the heated option? And where do you think i could pick up a set since they are so new still, or is being rapped by the dealership the only way to go? -Ed
  13. It's sitting in the garage right now... i'll look and see if there is a number stamped on it... otherwise I bought it at autozone for a 95 nissan maxima... there are two models i believe i bought the one with the most amperage rating. I believe the DOHC model has the more powerful one. -Ed
  14. This sounds like Supreme Court. Man... wish i was outta law school.
  15. Fiberglass... because it can always be fixed. Also when at speed.. fiberglass isn't going to flex and therefore do the job it's supposed to and keep the nose down... the other one will flex and won't work as well. -Ed
  16. the mounting location for the stock braket was too far to the side of the altenator... it woudln't have kept tension properly so i made that piece to ensure proper tension. -Ed
  17. Only a honda can take a beating like that and still keep going.
  18. Look... I think we got off on the wrong foot. I'm one of those people that hate being told I CAN'T do something. Time and time again I have proved people wrong as being told i can't is a strong motivator for me. I enjoy fabricating parts, it is a way to get outside... do something positive with my time, relieve some stress. Also excersizes my brain on solving problems that come along and keeps my mind in a creative state. I get a feeling of satisfaction and accomplishment when i make something all of my own. Also if i make it and it doesn't work... it's a challenge to me to make it better so it does work. But this is just my style and personality as I am a very curious person, stuburn, persistant, and love learning; which is why i love this forum. Honestly i do not think TWM put much engineering into the box at all as they certainly didn't think much about their intake manifold. The taper prolly occured by needing the box to clear the strut support inside the engine bay. But that is my opinion and i'm entitled to it. Sorry if I've offended you... I just don't like people telling me what i can and cannot do when i have yet to find my own limit of what i can't do. No hard feelings... thanx for offering help I might take you up on some dimensions if i need them. -Ed
  19. lol i sense a smartass! I took a closer look at it today, was going to take it out, but decided it too much a pain in the butt. I'm just gonna head over to a junk yard with my friend next week... See if i can find an old honda motor. I really don't see y it's so hard to put a different motor in, there is TON's of room compared to modern vehicles. I might have to fab a piece to mount it to the bars in there... thas about it... oh well we'll see what i end up with... money is tight. I'll keep you informed
  20. looked at my g/f's honda today... think i'm gonna try using the assembly from it... looks alot like the Z actually. -Ed
  21. OK... So this is where i have a problem. Maybe I'm mistaken here but i thought this website was devoted to extreme ideas and customizing our cars. Correct me If i'm wrong but if everybody put on store bought parts... this website woudln't be here. Why would I pay around three hundred dollars when i can make it for less than sixty. Also i have come to realize that unless the company is small or does only datsun, then usually the quality isn't there and i would rather make it myself to get the quality i want. Forgive me if i come off rude as it is rather early. -Ed
  22. I've worked with fiberglass for several years in marine and automotive applications. I don't see y creating a fiberglass box would be more costly or hard to create? and i would only need one mold of cardboard to make it. Rather simple i think.... maybe i'm missing the complication here? first piece would be all metal with holes for wing nuts and screw to go threw. the plate would bolt right to the carbs. Then the fiberglass would just have a metal flange embeded in it with matching holes. Then to fight the cone filter, just cut off a piece of my old CAI intake pipe and fiberglass that in it as well and woolah. Fiberglass cone intake that allows airhorns to be run. -Ed
  23. I will soon be doing body work on my car again as i'm shaving the rear bumper and side markers, however i think i might go ahead and try makn' a diffuser just for show... who knows... maybe it will actually help? -Ed Also a thought just occured to me.... people who expierience fumes backtracking through the hatch... on 280z there is a transition piece that comes off the body and smooths into the bumper... i'm willing to bet this isn't there for looks... anybody have exhaust problems with this piece still on?
  24. ok... so i'm a very visual hands on learner and i'm having trouble understanding EXACTLY how these valves work. Also i would think if your engine is spining at 14k you would have to have a new way of igniting the fuel. At that point you might as well just keep the spark plug lit up the whole time like a "glow plug" seems like this might be better suited for a diesel engine? Also if your running that high a rev... y not make an engine with 3 or 4 huge clyinders, relatively short stroke.. put these roatry valves on the top, and use some glow plugs and spin the hell outta the thing? i don't know.. it's late maybe i'm getting dillusional. -Ed
  25. incase you were wondering.... they are made in Australia by a company called "LYNX". The letters "RAM-FLO" are printed on them... you can buy them real cheap... they came with my kit... so i'll make them work till i can fab a fiberglass intake. -Ed
