  1. definatly contact Ross.... you'll be glad you did... here's his site if you car to browse around.. http://www.modern-motorsports.com -Ed
  2. y would you ask a sales rep what else to buy anyway.. like asking to get screwed. My father and i have dealt with MSA since they first started, and we have had both great experience and horrible experience. All depends on who you talk to, I think creating their online catalog will help quite a bit. Also, MSA is the only company i know of that offers such a selection of performance products for the Z cars. Victoria British just doesn't carry alot of it. Also keep in mind when complaining about MSA that the Z market is not that big. When compared to other car markets the Z is very small. This is partly y you don't get the "warm fuzzy" feeling when you make a transaction. Half the people i talk to have no idea what a Z is... yet on the other hand.. my mail man will talk to me about his red 240 he used to own. He's japanese by the way. looks like the father of nissan actually lol. Anyway, don't hate on them 2 bad... they are one of the better companies out there for Z's. -Ed
  3. so nitrogen by itself isn't flammable.. but what about combined with oxygen? Or maybe i've just completly forgot my chemistry (not surprising) -Ed just curious here
  4. i'm gonna help the newbie even though i know there are a TON of article if you use the search feature. Coilover is excatly what is says.. coil over the strut. It's what the Z has OEM. Basically all the coil over setups do is provide a much smaller spring 2.25" or 2.5" in width and that is where your extra clearance comes from, so measure the width of the oem spring, subract 2.5 from that and divide by 2 and that is how much extra space you will have. Also, aftermarket coilover kits such as the one Ross C makes come with a threaded sleeve that slide over the strut. the smaller diameter spring fits onto a large nut on the threaded sleeve. By doing this you can adjust your ride height to any degree you like. Also the smaller spring allows you a much greater selection of dampening rates to choose from to setup your suspension. Sometimes i'm too nice
  5. there was a big article in Sports Z magazine a while back like a year maybe. But in the long run... after all the weight was removed it was replaced by all the addes safety, and performance upgrades, after all was said and done they only saved around 10 lbs. including roll cage, differentials, trannies, anit sway bars, striped interior. etc. And nitrogen in your tires? um.. no thanks... i've already had my car catch fire once.
  6. yeah... but they still screwed me outta 43 bucks to ship it back to them, but at this point, as long as i get everything back and it all works like they have said... I won't even bother trying to get it back. -Ed
  7. ok... update again. Called again today and got everything worked out.. Turns out the manifold will bolt up, just not using the OEM holes, of course... nobody bothered to tell me this the whole time i was having problems with the company. If you peel back the stock gasket there are 4 other holes you can use to bolt it up... Simple enough... could have mentioned this like 2 weeks ago when i first called them. So everything looks like it's working out, they are sending a new gasket that will work with the new hole locations, new 8mm bolts to bolt it up with, and they are currently shaving the problem areas on the manifold so the carbs fit nicely. They also fixed the throttle rod, or atleast so i'm told. I should be seeing the parts back at my house early next week. -Ed
  8. ok update time... They recieved shipment yesterday... I called this afternoon, they verified they were going to test fit everything on a cylinder head up there fix everything, and send it back to me. -Ed
  9. so... as long as i use dry matting or non pregnated matting and the structural resins I'll be alright. cool.
  10. well i don't have any space for a vacumn bag... but if it's only for looks... then i think i'm gonna start playing
  11. I've never used a vacum bag before... is it essential? or just used to create an even look? -Ed
  12. just watched a show yesterday called Mythbusters on the Discovery channel, evidently coke makes an excellent chrome cleaner with al foil, cleans blood somewhat, but does nothing to a rusted bolt. pretty interesting stuff... also did tests on a tooth, penny and a steak, phosphoric acid did a bad job cleaning the penny, but the coke worked well, coke tenerized the steak while the acid started decomposing it, and the tooh just got stained dark by coke and was half the size and bright white with phosphoric acid. the tooth and penny tests where done over 24hrs and the steak a little over 48 hours.
  13. do you have any pictures? i'm having a hard time visualizing what you did. sounds like you welded a new frame rail inside the car, but then how is it flush with the floor? Much apreciated. -Ed Also i don't have a plasma cutter or acess to one, would a sawza work? combined with grinders, a roto zip and a dremel?
  14. is it possible to get a 17x11 1 piece wheel?
  15. I've worked with fiberglass for over 6 years now, and i was wondering, since you've worked with carbonfiber, it is pretty much the same procedures? lay the cloth... apply resin.. wait till harden? does it use the same resins? or are they special? thanx -Ed
  16. I'm gonna go talk with the locally paint shop owner this week hopefully and check out the prices for what i want to do. My father and i have painted several cars ourselfs, so the price of the paint is the only expense i would have besides sand paper, prep, etc. So from what i understand the "pearl look" comes from several tinted clear layers? is this correct?
  17. that's kinda like one huge carburator or three smaller. I would think the smaller would be alot more efficient and provide more low end torque, while the larger might edge over in top end hp. I'd prefer triples, just because i think it would be more accurate with air and fuel and more efficient.
  18. in Sport compact car, they usually test with all the same tires.
  19. The base color i want to look like a dark silver, but i want it to reflect like the inside of an oyster shell or a pearl, refelecting greens, reds, purples, blues, etc. I thought this would just be a pearl addiditive, but i think it's actually a cystal clear you put over the basecolor coat, but under the top clear coat. Anybody every done this or know what i'm talking about?
  20. I was looking to paint my car a tahitian pearl or maybe a little lighter. I want it to reflect like a pearl. my friends 300zx is white with the pearl gives off awesome colors, blues greens reds... anybody ever painted this before?
  21. .77g really isn't that bad for a stock car in that age. most suped up cars still can't pull 1g on the skid pads. pulling in the .9g is very impressive. -Ed
  22. mine has a rust hole about 1" by 1" at the end (rear) of the drivers side frame rail... figured since i'm fixing it... might as well strengthen it... be nice to know i have something down there to grind on over a spend bump besides 16 or 18 gauge metal.
  23. i was looking at my girls honda the other day wondering how i could modify to a double wishbone, I decided against it. But i was thinking about adapting a single coil-over shock that mounts with fisheyes to the control arm. I have a toy gas car and was looking at the suspension on it... then i was looking at pegasus racing catalog and saw the fisheye mounts for 5bucks each... ideas just started flowing.
  24. well my cars on the ground... no rotisery for me... i guess i'll just use a countor guide 4"s at a time
