  1. Crispy chicken, I have to admit your post bothered me a little. Im not sure why, maybe its just the wording you used? Though i will admit i highly respect the effort youre trying to put into your project. I just want to say the "hard" (lengthy, expensive, extravicant, whatever) way isnt always the better way. And while cheap crappy paint may be just cheap crappy paint, its important to point out that not all things "cheap" are "crappy".
  2. Try some paint thinner or air craft stripper maybe?
  3. And how much is that compressor going to cost you to use that hvlp gun? Hope you dont try and save money and get some little 5-10 gallon tank compressor, Youll be stopping every 10 minutes while that tiny tank fills back up- Have fun keeping that hvlp gun clean from gunking up in the down time. And youll still need to color sand between each coat if you want good resutls.
  4. Damn that sucks, hope the head of that bolt didnt do any major damage
  5. The ebay ad says only 260 and 280- any reason they wouldnt work on a 240?
  6. Sorry for the really random request- Would you mind taking a picture from the front and low to the ground? Id love to see how those tires measure up in comparison to the car.
  7. My apologies you say youve got the MSA springs in your first post. Which MSA spring kit was is? They offer a few from what i remember (Ulness they have their own kit i dont know of?). Any rubbing issues with the rims? Im intresed in a very similar set up- the 16x8 sportmax with 225/50/16 azenis. Am just worried ill rub or something, plus i havent decided on what spring kit i want yet- A few posts have me considering the eibach and illumina set up.
  8. Any pictures of it on the ground? Is your z lowered, and by how much if it is?
  9. Sorry to bump an old thread, but ive loved reading through this and how peopels cars have comapred to modern ones- Id love to get some more stories going if anyone has any
  10. Sweet thanks! So, anyone have a stock 240z mirror for sale ?
  11. But is it symmetrical? The bottom (when on the drivers side) angle looks more obtuse and angles down farther then the top of the mirror (if that made sense) naviathan: What do you mean facing the wrong direction? As in the bulk of the mirror would be towards the car, rather then away? Doesnt it swivel around up/down/in/out to adjust? Or do you mean something would be up with the angle of the mirror, even when adjusted?
  12. I did a search but couldnt find much, I rather like the design of the stock 240z mirror, but from what i can tell (and mine is this way as well), they only came on the driver side. Did/does anyone make or sell a factory-looking mirror for the passenger side? Maybe an import from a country of RHD cars or something? I did a quick photo-chop of Austin hokes car (Hope you dont mind austin), just for a visual reference A fast chop so sorry if its not that great, but this is def something id like to be able to do to me z. Anyone have any information? Maybe this is a dumb idea, im not in the same state as my car to check this out however. Would it be possible to just flip the left hand mirror upside down or something and mount it on the passenger side? It dosnt look symmetrical enough to allow this?
  13. Incredible find i was going to buy one shortly here, awesome way to save some good cash!
  14. Been a bit curious- For this type of set up- putting a turbo onto an NA block, what kind of power was seen for anyone who did it (or a ball park figure of what to expect reasonably) with what mods and how much boost was being run? My car is currently set up like this and im hoping to get a good ball park figure of what to expect (fmic, 3 inch intake and turbo back, 440 injectors, many many msd parts, 240sx tb, minor head work, shell be getting a haltech and dyno tunning here before shes on the road). Im hoping for at least 250-300 whp- Anyone know if this is a reasonable and safe number?
  15. Damn boy looks like a pigeon crapped in there Congrats on having the nerve to do this yourself- Please let us know how this turns out. Ive got a spare r180 i wouldnt mind playing around with. Good luck
  16. Pedal had too much throw for my tastes honestly- I can hope its the pistons. But whatre the odds of both front pistons and the rear drums being angry like that at the same time? Plus would bleeding the pressure from the lines release the pistons from the bores (considering the natural wobble of the rotor didnt)
  17. Thats actually a good read, thanks. I couldve sworn i posted with an update last night, mightve had internet troubles or something- My apologies. The car was recently bought, and no previous brake work had been done to the car- Its actually been sitting for some time. Got onto the freeway and coudl feel the brakes starting to drag, an absense of acceleration and massive decel, plus that lovely smell. By the time the next exit was reached on the freeway (2-3 miles) the car was pulled into the first turn in ( a gas station). The rotors were the BRIGHTEST red ive ever seen a rotor be before, and the brake pads were on fire. Lovely. Water was used to quickly put the fire out, didnt need anything else getting torched. Yes i know this did in the rotors, but im sure theyd been done already (Steering wheel now plays la-bamba!). The brake lines were loosened off the master cylinder and the car was gimped home with the same problem happening one or 2 more times (Cant recall, it was about 2 am at that point). Im located in vegas and the cars currently hiding at a friends house in california, so its rather difficult to run out and check anything, so my apologies on that. Was hoping to find someone with a similar problem- Thanks for all the thoughtful and prompt inputs, its one of the things i love about the Z community (comming from an ae86 community, trust me when i say its much appreciated). Ill give all these a try and report with what ive found, ill also update with my solution for anyone else who may run into the same problem. On the bright side, i was planning on overhauling the entire brake system anyways
  18. Title says it all, ALL the brakes drag front and rear together. Anyone ever have this issue or any ideas what could be causing it? Ive checked the rod it seems to return properly, im assuming it could be the master cylinder but dont want to rush out and buy something i dont need. Any help or thoughts would be much appreciated
  19. Fwiw id also like an update on these- I should be ready soon to dig into my Z and start restoring it and ive got money set aside for this if theyre reasonable.
  20. Will do once im around the car again- Its being stored in california for me (im in Vegas). For what its worth, i believe it to be an aftermarket thing- my friend storing the car noted it to me, said the stock numbers (not the e) had been ground away and the 42 had been etched into the side. Ive done a search on google and found a couple others asking what this might be, and even a car thats listed as using an e42 head- So i was hoping it might be a common enough thing done by a specific shop or such, or just a nick name given to a common mix of parts.
  21. Once again asking more questions. Did a search and found a total of 3 topics, one closed, and the other 2 have no useful information leading to what this is. Anyone have any answers on what an e42 head is or might be?
  22. Damn now thats what im talking about.
  23. Thanks for taking the time to actually read my question TheNeedForZ, thats a great idea and am actually feeling stupid for nothing thinking of it sooner. I purchased a 71 240z with a turbo l28 (p90 head and f54, both supposed to be rebuilt), im just trying to find out if its an NA block or turbo block, and am not feeling zelous enough to pull the head to physicaly check the pistons if i dont actually have to. Thanks for the great suggestion.
  24. Did a search and couldnt find my answer, but maybe im not searching for the right thing? Anyways im hoping theres a way to easily tell if the f54 block i have came with flat top pistons or dished pistons, short of pulling the head. Does anyone know if theres something visual i can look for, or a specific number on the block that can be used as any indication?
