  1. wait a min. Since the turbo car is tuned 12:1 A/F or so for pumped gas to keep the engine from detonating, running less detonation prone (higher octane) gas will let you tune in more leaner mixture right? At least until it gets beyond 14.7:1 A/F ratio
  2. Well, I have a buddy who ran C-16(117 octane) at the track and he was tuning his car at 14.5-14.7 A/F ratio under WOT (high boost too) Datalogger got no knock on that ran. Just take the fel out slowly or turn the boost up until it knocks. But I wouldn't do it without a proper gauges and datalogger
  3. Hehehe, I couldn't help myself. I boought one for $1200 with a spare motor and tranny. And hoping to build me a 11 sec street car. That might mean I have to sell my Z though I'm going to look for a job next week or two Taking donation...... now 8)
  4. That's why I got me a 1G DSM for 10 times less of EVO. The newer the car gets, harder to overcome the high tech ECU. Personally, OBD-I is what I like the most. Most tuned car uses OBD-I. e.g Hondata, DSM datalogger, on and on. OBD-II likes to throw a fit when you start to run boost, leaded fuel and other bad things we are not suppose to do
  5. That's only if the boost doesn't spike though
  6. This might be helpful to all you DSM BOV user. This will make th eBOV as good as Greddy type-S http://www.thedodgegarage.com/turbo_bov_mod.html
  7. You can't really go by the butt dyno. You might not feeling fast because it's not a "bam!" instant boost like how it was with J-pipe with no IC.
  8. They are same as DSM, Honda I think. If that helps.
  9. I belive it's all 12V analog signal, even to the ECU.
  10. Just like your mechanic said, the BOV by the TB and vent back in front of the AFM.
  11. With ACT pressure plate you should run smaller bore slave cylinder.
  12. Your MAP might be faster than my MAF but it you are moving enough air, your ECU isn't going to keep up with that. I say tighten the WG actualtor to solve the problem and run more boost.
  13. Actually 4 psi spike is a big deal. With 2 psi spike, my car jumped from 13:1 A/F ratio from 12:1-11.8:1. 800ft/lb isn't right but the torque is nice and flat though. I bet the truw numbber is about 230-240ft/lb. Good number BTW
  14. sounds like you got huge boost spike.
  15. I remember my 2nd gear synchro was stuffed, I couldn't go down from 3rd to 2nd any higher than 3000 rpm. I would just go CRUNCH! So my parents replaced the gearbox before I learnt to drive in it. redline MT90. I can to 6k rpm downshift no crunch
  16. I run L26 flattop with P79 head. (8.x:1 compression) first I ran N/A ECU with BTU and no FMU ( ) on a stock turbo until it blew a headgasket @12psi due to a lean A/F. After that, I ran FMU for awhile with same setup ran fine. (I did belw another head gasket due to a warped head) then I got me a HKS 2mm drop the compression to 7.8:1 and it has been together since. Now with a 60-1 and 14psi on Z31 ECU, I've no problem with it.
  17. water does have a better heat transfer than anti-freeze. But you got to run anti-freeze in the winter time. I wouldn't worry too much if your car heat soak. as long as the temp goes back when you ar edriving it.
  18. Call forced performance and talk to Rob. He might be able to help.
  19. I changed the plugs today on my L26ET (2.6L). while I was working on it, I found my plugs that I got are not projected tip like my old ones? Is that a bad thing, it's on a turbo car. Thanks
  20. This topic got me interested on my engine condition. So I pulled the plugs and replaced it while I was changing the oil. I found my #5 and #6 seems to be leaner than others. (plugs grey rather than brown). That's what I was expecting because I was blowning headgasket and #5 and #6 cylinder. Just a thought.
  21. I hear you Tim. That doesn't even come close to breaking even after all the parts I've gone though
  22. You might get a surprise when you pull the #1 piston out. I bet the ring land will fall out. This is second L6, that I know of, had a problem with #1 piston. The #1 must run leaner than others. O, don't spaned alot of money into a motor until the ignition problem is solved. My 2 cents
  23. It's a easier to swap Z31 TB than a 240sx TB.
  24. because noone wants to pay $$$ for it. I'll sell mine if I can get $7.5K out of it but nope
