HELP with Quarter Window weatherstrip
S30 SPL replied to S30 SPL's topic in S30 Series - 240z, 260z, 280z
It's a coupe, 1977 280z with the correct window trim pieces and glass. Unfortunately, the car sleeps at another house and its too late to go back. The weather strip is shaped like a "U", the bottom of the U is to glue to the window frame and then there are the 2 parts that stick up. One side is about 1/2 the height of the other side. -
I bought the quarter window outer weatherstrip from MSA and I don't know which side is OUT. On the weatherstrip, one side is lower than the other side, which side is to be used on the outside? The lower or higher side?? Please help, my stock ones were so nasty that I couldn't tell.

Mobile Wheel Ding Repair?
S30 SPL replied to dhp123166's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
You should TOFTT and try it out if you have a damaged wheel. If they don't fix it, tell them to get lost and not pay for the service. -
Alright cool. I think I'll pick these things up and get them mounted up. I just hope they don't hit the calipers up front.
-
I think exposed nuts and the lack of a center cap cover is better too... less parts to go obsolete and not be able to find... I guess I'll go check if they clear the Cobra brakes and get them if they do.

As I remember, Kakimoto makes an exhaust for the S30 chassis. However, I do not recall it being a 80mm inlet, I think it was a 60-70mm inlet. Are you set on having a 80mm inlet Kakimoto? If you are, and are willing to pay whatever it costs when I buy it in Japan, then I will help you get the part. We both know Kakimoto is not inexpensive.

From reading people's posts, it seems that the Rota 16x8 +4 fits pretty flush up front. From Bartman's fitment of 18x9.5 with a +19 offset, that is definately flush. I think the front should be close since it will sit 2mm further in to avoid the front valance or air dam. The rear, I hope will fit since it is 1/2" narrower and 5mm further out than Bartman's setup. I think I will use a 225/45R17 or 215/45R17. For the rear, either a 255/40R17 or 245/40R17. But saying that these will fit and sit pretty flush with the fender, what does everyone think about this style of wheel on a S30?

These are in 17x8 +6 and 17x9 +13, what does everyone think about this look? Will it fit the Z (S30) well? Will it clear the stock fenders? My car will have coilovers on it and the 5 lug conversion. Cobra brakes in front, GT500 (Mustang GT) in the rear.

There are many different brands that are good. The more important thing is how it sticks and tacks. You want to use a glue that is "webbed" not just your normal "spray" like hairspray. Also, don't stick your material on when the glue is still very wet, you need to wait a little while until it's tacky. I used to do lots of audio interiors, headliners, and door panel inserts... messed up lots, but when they were delivered, they were real nice. Alcantara (fake suede) and carpet are real easy to apply, vinyl on the other hand, depending on weight (thickness) can be more difficult.

Matching 5lug Rear Brakes for Cobra Fronts
S30 SPL replied to TheNick's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
There is also a kit offered by a member (bajaracer!) on this forum. The back uses the 05-08 GT500/ Mustang GT rear caliper and rotor. The nice thing is that it keeps the parking brake like stock. I already got my Cobra front parts and GT500 rear parts...just need the hubs and adapters now. For the 5 lug rear, you will need the stub axle from Ross or have him alter your stock ones for 5 lug. If you are brave, you can make your own... -
REQ: pics of 18" wheels on S30 [240/260/280z]
S30 SPL replied to mull's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
^^^ That is one of the most beautiful Zs I have ever seen. -
Use upholstery glue. If you use a quality glue, that stuff will stay stuck for a long time. If you have extensive complex curves and need to stretch, make sure the material is not under too much tension because it will pull up over time. If you have too many shapes, consider cutting and stitching.

I think John might have come up with another discussion while sitting with a brew that can go on until closing time.
-
Just try it and see what happens... The tach is just an A/C signal from the coil (-) terminal.
-
I know in many other cars, more caster is an alternative to more static camber in the front. Is this the same for a S30 chassis Z?
-
There is one thing about camber recovery that I reeeeaaalllly like, but it's not for performance. Huge camber recovery is great to tuck neat looking sizes of wheels into the body work. For example, Miata's tucking 10" into stock fenders... Like I said, I am not a suspension pro, so I can only say camber recovery is necessary, but I don't know how much.

Anti-dive geometry is a plus and minus. For example, in my WRX, the car has "anti-dive". This is great because the front tires keep planted when I brake hard, but under some situations, because there is not dive and weight transfer, the nose just doesn't bite hard enough... the feeling is like trying to stop yourself on a swing with just your heels. For this, there are many kits that get rid of some of the "anti-dive" in that car. I think that it is really hard to answer the question definitively since everyone has a different goal when setting up their car. I think that some camber recovery is needed, but I don't have the number of how much. For example, if you do not have enough recovery, then the outside tire can roll over on it's sidewall. If you have too much, then your patch changes too quickly and too much if you hit a bump going straight...

Just to add a little something... Intercooler replacements on vehicles that were originally equipped with some sort of intercooler is CARB exempt and do not require approval or additional testing. This covers a small side mount to a huge front mount. Also, the current laws state (if I am not mistaken) that you can not replace your current engine with one with additional cylinders. For example, if you have a I-6, you can not drop in a V8. The engine also has to come from the same brand of vehicle (Nissan to a Nissan, no Toyota in a Nissan). I have swapped and BAR'd a few Honda vehicles and all have had first time passes except for one that had an A/F ratio gauge. The A/F gauge is illegal because it taps/alters an essential ECM signal. SR20DET swap in a 240SX will never be legal. However, you may be able to get a SR20DE in a 240SX. A loop hole may be possible since the G20 and Sentra had SR20 options, but the US has never had a turbo version of this engine. Unfortunately, I have a 1977 Z so I need to comply and get tested. BUT I have always been curious about the RB being a legal swap because the Skyline was imported by Motorex for a period of time. This means that the RB engine series WAS available in the USA legally... Of course, all my comments are only intended to apply to CA laws.

chrism, thanks for the images. that gives me a good feeling about the kit from mckinney. i think pricing is fair given their amount of work involved to adjust everything right. i feel you on the a/c pump... but that means lots of hoses, and more weight... but it is nice to have a/c with this type of swap. i really enjoyed my civic when i dropped in the integra powertrain with a/c working.

So does this allow the shifter to come through at the original shifter location? How close is your oil pan to the floor? Low is good, but too low is not safe for race or street.
-
How low does this kit put the RB25 oil pan to the floor? Will it be significantly lower than the stock L28?

Wheel Show! Post your pics of you wheels
S30 SPL replied to k3werra's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Is it not possible to reduce the size of the adapters and get the tire/wheel combo to fit under the stock body work? How much room is on the insides? I know another member fit 8.5 in front, and 9.5 in back, so I figure you could minimize your sticky outty to an inch and almost any regular flare would fit then... -
Well, I picked up my hood from Raceonusa and its not bad for the price. However, there are some imperfections, but good enough for the price. The carbon also does not wrap all the way to the front exposed nose area, but it is black and you would only see if you looked at it close. The front surface is also not perfectly flat, but again, you would need to be very close to it to notice.

Anyone have pics of their L bracket?? I would like to see what yours look like before I pick up my hood and make mine. Does the hood seem stable with the stock hood latch?
