  2. 3. Well the Roll cage is done, and the rear spare tire well has been modified for the fuel cell. I will post the finished photos shortly. Yesterday I sent the car over to be Media blasted, should have it back in a week or two. More photos forthcoming... An original BRE racing header is in the works too more info on that as it becomes available...
  4. From a guy that used to do a lot of custom fiberglass for car stereo stuff, it is pretty easy to do, patience is the key. There are a few tricks that i can suggest based on what you are looking at to fabricate, especialy if you are looking at making compound curves and such. Flat panels are fairly straight forward. Carbon fiber is tough because you want to see the weave under clear resin, When working with compound curves it can be very difficult to work with and have look good. Air bubbles are the single most difficult thing to deal with when working with any mat material. I hope this helps.
  5. Again, the best advise is to consult your rulebook. SCCA rules are available on disc... The guys at PDK Fabrication can make some recomendations on what is necessary depending on the class you are racing...
  6. First of all Chip, Nice work. From someone in doing the same thing i currently i can appreciate the time and effort going into your installation. I was shocked at how much effort is required to do such an install. I am concerned for your because I am 6'1" and have been struggling with several of the same issues that you will have to contend with. Looking at your roll cage I see that the main hoop is pretty far forward in the driver/ passenger compartment. I had to push mine back to just in front of the dome light location so that i could drive my car with a helmet. Will you have enough clearance? Also I noticed that your cross bar on your cage is even with your hoop which may not allow you to recline your seats so that you can drive your car in some comfort. Lastly, I do not recall seeing a cross bar to protect you in a roll over. A diagonal bar that will support the main hoop in case of a roll over... These are things that you might want to consider, as I said before it is very clear that you have put a lot of work into your car, it would be a shame to have to rework any of your project at a later date. Here are some photos, please feel free to look at all my photos there are several of my roll cage. http://www.classiczcars.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=6335&password=&sort=3&thecat=500
  7. I hear you guys, a few years ago when I had enkies on my Z i got really fed up loosing centercaps and elected to make my own out of aluminum. They fit from the back side of the rim and have set screws so that they dont rattle and cant be removed unless the wheel is removed from the car. I sold the rims and kept the center caps. They are polished aluminum hexagonal in shape (they look like a big bolt head) with painted centers, currently painted black. They are in brand new condition. You can buy them as I run Panasports now and have no use for them... I would like $100.00 firm if you want them.
  8. I beleive that this part is made by Don Oldenburg for Nissan, I do know a few racers that have used this successfully. I would suggest calling Les Canaday at Classic Datsun in San Diego California for more details. His # 760-940-6365.
  9. Hey if you want, I can send you photos of my radiator..which is a Ron Davis..from AZ Z Car!! I have had mine for a few years all i can figure is that they must have changed manufactures.
  10. David, We will be there too, and I will see about bringing our fiberglass dash. PDK will have a booth at the show. Look for our strut bars too. We will have John Williams 240Z in our booth with our Strutbars. Be sure to come by and say hello. Ron
  11. we are having them made from our mold by a new fiberglass fabricator. We are waiting for their reply to quote prices, I should have pricing for you within the next week or so.
  12. we are having them made from our mold by a new fiberglass fabricator. We are waiting for their reply to quote prices, I should have pricing for you within the next week or so. Since you are in Los Angeles, are you going to go to the Mossy Nissan Z show Saturday? in Oceanside CA? PDK will be there and you can see the dash first hand...
  13. Bill, Sorry, we no longer offer a CF dash, as they are too hard to make and there was not enough interest to make enough of them to make it worth while. These Dashes are a race part, which means they do not have the internal parts that would accomodate heater controls, factory gauges etc. We made just a 240Z dash although for racing applications, it could be installed in a 260 or 280. we still are doing the black fiberglass dashes, if your looking for a cool racing part that will keep the original look of your Z this is the ticket!!
  14. Hi Mike, Yeah, well i bought one a few years back from AZ Z Car and it has Ron Davis stamped on the top with Ron's phone number...but whatever...AZ Z car can claim anything they want i guess. The one thing that i will strongly recoemend is that you use a floating mounting arrangement. If you bolt your new radiator in like the stock unit the chassis flex on the car will tear your radiator apart. I use a bolt several washers and nylock nut with a short, stiff spring to hold my radiator in place, and allow some movement of the chassis without damaging the radiator.
  15. Arizona Z sells a Ron Davis radiator that is a direct bolt in. It is listed on their website, you might want to take a look. Congrats on your wins this weekend, i had heard from les about Mickey last night, glad to hear you did so well too!!
  16. Mike, Look at the Ron Davis Radiators, they build a cross flow aluminum radiator that is a direct bolt-in for your Z that works great! I have had one for years and it works really well. I know that Mickey has not had the best luck with Ron Davis radiators, but I think that this is the exception and not the rule. If you are deadset against a Ron Davis radiator, there are several options that the V8 guys use. There are several cross flow aluminum chevy radiators that can easily be modified to fit a Z. This might be a better solution than having a radiator fabricated, unless there is some reason that you need to have one made??
  17. john, Les of Classic Datsun purchased all or most of the remaining R-190 parts from Nissan Motorsports when they blew them out a few months back, he would probably have the bearing(s) you need for your R-190. Les's phone # 760-940-6365.
  18. Yes, 5lb fire system, ATL fuel cell, aluminum racing seats integrated into the roll cage and 5 point seat belts. Everything will be up to the current safety requirements.
  19. Thanks Blueovalz, it is fun and challenging to recreate history, but their are limitations too. I want to be reasonably authentic..I don't feel it is right to put some of the fun new toys in my car because they would not be in the spirit of the original car. There are times that i would like to add some of parts that would enhance the performance of this Z, but then i look at the overall goal and realize that those modifications would not be correct for the car.
  20. I will be running a BRE prepaired 2.4L Z motor with a highly modified E-31 head, bored 40 over with 12.1 compression, I dont have dyno figures so i can't tell you exact HP. But it will be a accurate representation of the original BRE #46, with Mikuni Solex Carbs, a copy of the original race header etc. Additional tidbits include a close ratio overdrive five speed and 4.44 LSD differential. So I am sure it will go pretty well.
  21. More photos up on my gallery, and lots of work on the front of my car this weekend. Supports to the front strut towers, and down to the front swaybar was the order of business this weekend. NEW Photos are available at: http://www.classiczcars.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=6336&password=&sort=7&thecat=998 Click (see all of this user's photos) to see the progress this weekend..Again Props to PDK Fabrication for their tireless efforts to do a quality job!! We will be bringing the car, (Unfinished) to The Classic Datsun Turfside Show in Escondido California this year (november 8th) for all to see..
  22. the Mikuni manifold will fit on to your P-90 head, but keep in mind that there might be vacuum leak issues, marine tex or silicon gasket sealer may be in order to get a proper seal. My understanding is that there is a progression from Cannon to what is now known as TWM. the manifold used by TWM are either the same or very simular. I would suggest that you look at the Nissan Motorsport intake, it is shorter than the Cannon with straight runners and better linkage than Mikuni or Cannon.
  23. It is hard to say since your installation is totally custom how much room there would be since we do not have know have the specific clearances based on your installation. It would be possible to build a cross bar that fits most applications, you could then fit it and call us with any specific alterations that may be necessary, ship it back and we would modify it for you. I suggest that you contact Mark at PDK for more details. Ron
  24. i will get you pricing ZLINE for the fiberglass dash. They will not be $900.00 each.
