Weld in Camber plates vs adj lower control arms
rxsleeper replied to rags's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Can't really give you a good answer since I had both installed. The plates added at least -3.5 of camber for me. We played with moving the eccentrics to the top to try and get a little more angle in the control arm but not enough that I could say how much camber gain was just from the plates. I am using the GC camber plate setup and you can vary how much gain and have available by reversing the upper mounting plate. Not the plate it self but the captured monoball assembly. I would think that -3 would be plenty for most track applications. -
Weld in Camber plates vs adj lower control arms
rxsleeper replied to rags's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
FWIW Rags I have both on my car. I had just the eccentrics until a few weeks ago. With the eccentrics only I maxed out at -2.5 camber. With the plates and eccentrics I can see more than -6 but like Jon said, it screws you up when setting your toe. I was able to dial in -3 with a 1/16 of toe out and my cross weights are at 50.0% with me in the car. If I were to do it again, I would try to get all I could with plates first and installl rod ends instead of bushings on the inner control arm. -
You will have a blast. Stay hydrated, the adrenalin will dry you out faster than the heat. Here is an in car from a Z from last Labor Day.

Regional Road Race in Nashville ~4.5 hours away, June 26, 27 that has at least 3 Z's competing and 1 510 racing. If you decide to come, pm me your full name and I will add you to the crew list. +1 for a visit to Barber and the museum. The track is incredible and kept like a golf course.

Have you tried the Z barn? 412 Howard Jones Road Maryville, TN 37801 (865)983-0314 1-800-247-2793 http://www.zbarn.com/ Just around the corner from Knoxville.

OK, I checked and mine may be 240Z stubs 43262-21000 List $5.25 ea, $21.00 total from the local Nissan dealer. Either way, they will have them and they are not expensive. Waaaaayy cheaper to buy OEM Nissan than trying to trust a reused staked nut.

Check with your local Nissan dealer. They still list them and have them in stock. I ordered 4 a couple of weeks ago and got them in 3 daysfor about $20 total. Or call Riley at Lynchburg Nissan in Va. Tell him I said Hi! Paul

How Much Bump Travel?
rxsleeper replied to JustinOlson's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
If I recall correctly, I have about 2.75-3.0" compression travel on total shock travel of about 5.5". That is running at 5.25" ride height on Bilstein shocks, sectioned struts, 375# front and 325# rear spring rates. I would have to look up corner weights but they were in the 600# range +/- -
Uh, yeah they do depending on how you are using them and how they are set up. I routinely boil the Redline lube right out of mine. I would fab a cooler but it is not legal for the class. Now, normal street driving, yeah, diff doesn't get that hot but be careful on generalizations.

One word short story: Nemesis!

See this thread : http://www.alscca.org/community/showthread.php?t=496 $250 for full up school.

I think you will probably be OK as long as your belts are in date and you have a Driver's suit. BTW, it is a School. Get your license at the end of the weekend. Two days of practice/instruction/timed runs. If you are interested, shoot me a pm. I plan on going with the Z.
-
Ok, your ready. I forget, I know your car has a cage but do you know Dia and wall thickness? If so, and it can pass a current tech inspection (I know it will ) Come over to TGPR next month for a SCCA TT drivers school. Get your TT license and come play. Looks good, glad you had a good day on a wet track. A Z with a stiff suspension is an unforgiving ^%$#&*( on a wet track.

What kind of springs, I have several OEM sets lying around.

my car is hard to control on the highway
rxsleeper replied to 240z!!!'s topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Get the car aligned. Sounds to me like the toe is out of adjustment. -
+1 to the FIA rating. I had to add a back brace to my Sparco Evo (old school, old seat ). You should try to sit in as many different seats to see how they fit you. What works for me, may not work for you. Go see what seat John (W) has, try it out, and if I make RA you can try mine. Keep in mind that if you are going to use this on track, you need to try the seat with your suit on and with gloves unless you only plan on HPDE. Why with gloves you ask? TO see if you can still work your belts while sitting in your seat. It might be more difficult than you think.

Oil temp gauge / oil thermostat problems
rxsleeper replied to 2eighTZ4me's topic in S30 Series - 240z, 260z, 280z
FWIW, I have my temp sensor plumbed in the pan. It takes about 10-20 minutes to get the oil up to 180 or so. Then, after 20 minutes of track time I will see 220+ or -. That's easily 60 minutes of street driving. I think Tony has nailed the problem. -
Building new shop - what to use for air lines?
rxsleeper replied to drzed's topic in Miscellaneous Tech
Have a look here: http://www.garage-pak.com/ Easier than black iron which I have worked with. I will be installing it in the new shop. Most of the reading I have done regarding shop air says not to use PEX on higher pressure applications or PVC. Too much danger if it blows out. I did find specific Compressed air pex literature at: www.ipexamerica.com Different than what you referenced but approved for compressed air. YMMV -
Good on you Clive. May you and yours have a Merry Christmas.

Max Jax 2 post Portable Lifts for 8' and under Ceilings
rxsleeper replied to 240hoke's topic in Miscellaneous Tech
John, you will like this. Using a 12" bit we never ran out of concrete for the drivers side post. 4500 psi mix, with fiber, mesh and rebar. On the passenger side, we had 9-10" for 4 holes, the other 2 only went 6" until we hit rebar. The installer left his rebar cutter at home. If they get loose at all, he will return and cut the rebar and install new anchors. One other thing, make absolutely sure that the lift posts are plumb. Period. no 1/16" out in any direction. they must be true and plumb. -
Max Jax 2 post Portable Lifts for 8' and under Ceilings
rxsleeper replied to 240hoke's topic in Miscellaneous Tech
IMHO, two posts are more useful for working on the car. 4 posts are better for storing cars. If you have the ceiling height a 2 post is the way to go. In a new build, make sure you have 12' ceilings or build a high bay like I did with lifted scissor trusses and buy a used lift. Less than 2k installed for the lift but I made sure I had enough concrete under the posts. -
+1 on the taking a couple if the price is right. These could never be used in a shop, like Paul said. I don't think those would fit on a blast cabinet so it could be rolled out of the way. No way, just won't happen......
-
Thanks. Yup, they are engineered trusses of 12". Shop is 24' deep x 32' wide with ~14'x20' storage area upstairs. I used a "lifted" scissor truss for the high bay area. Here is another shot.
