  1. Man I cant wait to tell some stories like that! It will be soon! I am getting my computer back from Street & Performance this Wednesday! So I should be up an running by next weekend!!!!!!!!!! Guy
  2. Or you could go to Alldata.com and get a membership for that car and it will give you all the wiring diagrams! Plus all the info on that car. It's $25 for the first car and $15 for any cars after that. Its for a year membership and renewal fees are $15 a year. Its a pretty good deal if you ask me! Guy
  3. If you go with an LS1 you wont have to worry about weight...in fact with the LS1 in a 280Z(Phantom's car! ) It actually weights a little bit less than stock! Now if you want to run 10's/11's you could supercharge the LS1 and get some decent size tires in the rear and it would probably put you in the 10's for sure!!! I think that would be very streetable. But again your talking some serious money here. Also there arent step-by-step directions for everything with this swap but there is a "swap manual" made by JTR(Jaguars That Run) Use the search function and you will know what I am talking about. Whats the budget on this? Guy
  4. Me too! I would need them for a 1980 280ZX. Let me know how much its going to cost..... Guy
  5. A built-up WC T5 might hold up? I would look for a T56 though. A stock T56 out of a 94-97 Camaro is rated at 450ft-lbs! Guy
  6. Yes I do! I am actually in the process of adding some pages. I am working on my exhaust page right now. Like Greimann said you will have to wait until you have the motor and tranny in before you get a driveshaft. I think my driveshaft was 23 1/4" with my LT1(350 Engine)/T56(6 speed manual tranny). If I were you I would get a better radiator or recore the one you have to a 4 core radiator. The R200 is a very strong rearend (atleast thats what everyone says...i think so too!). Posi is nice but Quafie is better. But the Quafie is very expensive....$1000-$1300! If you want to get an LSD get one from a 88'(or is it 87') 300ZXT. Oh and its not the big things that cost $$$ its all the little bolts and hoses and connects that really cost all the $$$, cause you never add all those costs up! You really get nickle and dimed to death when you are trying to get something to work for you swap and you cant seem to find that part you are looking for but you keep buying stuff that you think will work!.......no this hasn't happen to me .....YEAH RIGHT!!! Are you going carbed or EFI? Guy
  7. Ok Island Son, I think you should think twice about trying to put that kind of car back together. I think your eyes are bigger than your wallet! Repairing rust like you have will cost "mucho dinero!" Just from what you said I'm picturing a car with a few body panels and the rest of it is see threw! Is that what you have? I think you should take a road trip and find a better Z to start with. You will be miles ahead and you will save a lot of money in the long run. Ask anybody on this site what is the most important thing when starting a conversion like this?....."as rust free as possible donor car" will be the answer. I mean if you really want to fix all that go for it but I hope your pocket book is deep cause rust costs! ........thats just my $.02 Guy
  8. Man I dont care how much skill or fun it is...Im not fixing a car that is 50% rust! Waayyyyyyyy to much time and money to fix a car that far gone! If I were you I would look for a better car to start with, but thats just me Guy
  9. I think its a possibility but finding all the parts neccesary might be a problem(atleast for me, I live in wiscosin and there sure arent too many Z/ZX's laying around for me to pick through). I personally havent looked into that so I dont know if it is possible or not. I would image that it is. I think I will just wait and save up some money and have a header made(or maybe make one myself and have someone who has a TIG welder, weld it up) then send it into have it coated! I dont think making a header for that side would be to hard but I think it would be time conssuming. Maybe next winter I will put that on my "TO-DO LIST"??? Guy
  10. Are you talking about the weather packed connectors found on the wiring harness of most late model cars? If so your best bet is to get a wiring harness from a junk yard. I tried to just get a few connectos but the local junk yard said I would have to buy the whole harness! I was like %$%# that! So since I work at a DODGE dealer and get all my parts at cost I went and checked them out to see how much they were...Yeah a knock sensor connector for a LT1 350 is $62.xx for me to buy from GM...at the my work at cost for me was $9.xx!!! I also needed a TPS sensor $72.xx at a GM dealer...for me at cost from a GM dealer to the DODGE dealer...$38.xx!!! It's a benefit working at a dealer I guess!
  11. Nope the older ZX's have a recirculating(sp???) ball type steering system with that big a$$ box being the recirculating ball gear box! It sucks! So there really is no cheap/easy solution for us. Guy
  12. Yah know I have been feeling the same way lately! I am so close to having my car driveable I can taste it! However I just dont have the motivation to finish up the few things that need to be done before I get my computer back from Street & Performance(I will get it back later this week, I hope!), so that I can just put the computer back in and go for my first drive(farther than the 1/4 mile that I have driven it 2 or 3 times ). I just cant seem to get my a$$ in the garage to do the things that need to be done. Everytime I go out there I think..."man why didnt I do this when the engine was out?" or "I should have done it this way instead(like my tranny mount, yeah I'm on my 3 version of a tranny mount!)". I think next winter I will pull the engine and do somethings that I should have done in the first place and do them!! Oh well live and learn I guess! Guy Oh and dont give up man just wait till you line up next to Camaro SS at a stop light and you smoke him like he was a Honda ! Thats what I'm looking forward too!
  13. I was thinking for mine.... 80LT1 / 80 LT1..........(this is my most likely pick) HNDASUK.................I really hate hondas! Besides this will really piss off the "street racer" crowd! WOLS RU.......UR SLOW in a rearview mirror! RVOEVOM.....MOVEOVR in a rearview mirror! Thats all I have for now.... Guy P.S. 800th post!
  14. Yeah dont give up on this just because of something small like this! There are complications in any type of engine swap. Atleast with yours there is an easy solution, unlike Greimann and me with the big'ol gear box in the way and no easy/cheap solution. Guy
  15. Its the rust that you cant see that you should be worried about! So far it doesnt look too bad but once you start taking off the paint and under coating you will more than likely find more, so be prepared for more rust. Have you looked under your carpet at your floor panels yet? I thought those rusted out pretty easy too? Point is.....prepare for the worst and hope for the best! Guy
  16. Ok first of all what do you mean by 240ZX? Do you mean you have a 280ZX? If you have a 280ZX then yes you will need a custom header for the drivers side or use a LT1(93'-97') manifold. Greimann(another 280ZX v-8 member)is using a manifold from a late 70's chevy car of some sort(I think), I cant remember what kind of car it was though??? Do a search on "280ZX headers" and you should find the information you are looking for. Guy
  17. I thought someone said you could put a T56 behind one of these? Guy
  18. Oh so you dont have that gear box then like my 80' ZX does? I thought thats what you had but you have the power rack & pinion, not the reciprocating ball like mine. Guy
  19. It's in the block valley. Ding Ding Ding!!! We have a winner! I still think the LT5 is the way to go! Guy
  20. Since I now work at Dodge dealer I have had a chance to drive a few of those HEMI Rams......now I used to think Dodge trucks were the $hit but then I drove a few(not the HEMI's, older regular SBM) boy are they dogs! Cant even do a decent burn out most of the time!.........Now about those new HEMI Rams.....OH BABY! I love them. Theys sound great, haul some serious ass for a 4700lbs vehicle and they look nice! Me and another technician where out on a 1000 mile inspection(aka joy ride ) and we pulled up to a Eclipse that was riced out...well we tried to get him to race us by stepping on the gas and brake at the same time to make the truck jump but not move....yeah he wouldnt race! I think he was scared! I laughed about that one for quite a while. Can't even rave a truck! When will these ricers learn? Guy
  21. I dont know man, I think MAYBE(BIG MAYBE) it could be done but I think it will cost some serious green$$$ to get everything working properly. With a TPI isnt there only 2 injectors located on top of the throttle body? or am I thinking TBI? Guy
  22. Why do you want to use the 94/95 computer?
  23. Could you swap the computers out for one from a NON-CA state? Guy
