  1. Yeah I am kinda wondering if maybe it is a transmission issue because when it is out of gear and not moving it runs great. I check fuel pressure today and it is right at 40 psi. I think I will get an adjustable fuel pressure regulator and up my pressure to 45-47psi like the LT1 is used to. I am going to put my car up on jack stands tommorow and pull the inspection plate off the tranny and have a look inside for any obviouse signs of trouble. My coolant temp is staying at 180 degrees while cruising and at a stop in traffic it hovers at 200-210 degrees. 210deg. isnt a problem right? I thought that was normal. I dont even have a 2 speed tauras fan either, I just have the one speed version because I bought the wrong one. I do have and electric water pump and a Griffin 26"x19" radiator though. Guy
  2. Well I "only" have about 400HP @ the flywheel but I think I will still be able to beat most street cars. Guy
  3. Those are awesome! How much $$$ did it cost do it? Guy
  4. Hey BQR280Z, when are we going to get together? I finally got my ZX up and running! Have you heard any news on the Z club for us Green Bay area Z owners? I received an email earlier this week and was told there were 12 interested people! Guy
  5. Well I got everything working now and I am taking my car to work tommorow! 8) I think you guys were right about my Y-Pipe connection being too small(2.5") cause it seems a little sluggish down low. At about 2500rpms its fine but down low in the the 1000-2500 it seems to be running a little on the rough side. I also think I can feel a vibration coming from that area of the car(Y-Pipe area) I am going to put in on a scanner tommorow after work and see if I can find anything obvious. I am still going to go to atleast a 3" Y-Pipe connection though. I am going to see if I can go with a 3.5" though. Tommorow is going to be a great day! Its also my 21st birthday! Dont worry though I dont drink and drive. I dont even drink that much as it is, maybe 5 times a year. I'm too busy spending money on my car to drink it away! 8) Well wish me luck! Guy
  6. Well I finally figured out what happen with my wipers staying in the up position when i turned them off....Back in January when I painted the engine bay I took the wiper motor off the car.... then when I connected it to the wiper arm inside the cowl infront of the windsheild I connected it onto it 180 degrees off I am so happy that that's all it was! It always seems to be the little things that throw me off! I always think its something major(wiring problem in this case). I did learn something though, always think of the little stuff first! Guy
  7. Well I got my new sender today! I put it in and guess what! My temp guage works! Guy
  8. I love it! I really wish GM could design a car that good looking! Dont get me wrong I love the LS1 Camaros and the old 67'-69' Camaros but DAMN that is a really awesome design. It looks like the old Camaros but still has the new age look. A+ work right there. Guy
  9. Oh now you got me thinking! I havent even had my car to the track yet and now you got me wanting more HP! Oh and I think Im must be running a good amount of HP cause I broke my tires loose when I shifted from 3rd to 4th yesterday and I was only at about 75% throttle! It was only a chirp but I still brokem loose! I cant imagine what it would be like with hard shifts! Guy
  10. Well Im not sure what the heck is going on? I had it working again tonight but it seems like everytime I run the car it doesnt work, only when the car is shut off and key on. I know I am getting voltage to the gauge, the wire from the send to the gauge is good and no brakes in the wire, the ground is also good! I think I need a new sending unit? I just oredered one from JEGS and it should be here by the weekend. It was only $14.00 so I figured I would try it. It just seems like when ever I fiddle arount with the sending unit it works then when I stop touching it it doesnt! Guy
  11. Oh and I know my sender is ok because when I ground it, it pegs over to 260(all the way hot) Guy
  12. Actually I just thought of something....my voltmeter isnt working either and they are both powered by the same 12V signal? Hmmmm....I wonder if that has anything to do with it? Guy
  13. Ok I have a Autometer Phatom series temp. gauge in my car. I have the sender hooked up to the thermostat housing on my LT1. It worked like 2 weeks ago but now it doesnt seem to work? When I take it out and heat it up with a cigarett lighter(I dont somke ) it works? What am I missing here? Could the thermostat housing be coroded(sp?) so bad that its not making a connection? All I know is that it worked 2 weeks ago! Guy
  14. I think most guys quote HP@ the flywheel because it makes it sound like their car is more beefed up! Like me I always say I have 400HP because I dont know what I have yet because I havent had it on a chassi dyno. Most guys have some idea of what their engine will put out as far as HP. Now are you going to do a Z31 engine swap or a 280ZXT(L28ET) swap? I thought you wanted the easiest to install? If so then the L28ET(280ZXT engine) will be the easiest to swap with the most HP. Guy
  15. An L6 is the engine(straight 6) in the 1970-1983(L28E/L28ET are all basically L6's) In 1984 they went to a V-6 design. So when someone says L6 Turbo all they mean is they have an L6 engine with a Turbo Charger on it. Now can a 240Z handle 300HP@ the flywheel? I say yes with a few basic mods...Triangulated front strut bars and a rear strut bar or a 4 point roll bar. If you go more than 300HP@ the flywheel then I would consider subframe connectors for sure and possibly a rollcage. Guy
  16. Ok I just got back from an actual drive down the road! I took it out for about a 5 mile spin! I passed 2 trucks and oh boy does it have some pick up! Then on my way back when I went to turn around I kind go in to it a little bit and as I shifted from 2nd to 3rd I broke the shift lever off at the top(by the shift knob!) I guess I must be really tough! LOL Its not a big deal, I'll just take off the knob and weld it up! I also think I might have a dreaded drive line angle problem. I will have to go to Harbor Freight and pick up an angle finder and align my driveshaft to the correct angle. No big deal but I can still feel it Other than that all is good! Guy
  17. I think you can get tools from Auto Zone for free but you have to put a deposite down so that they know they will get their tools back. I bought one for $48.00 from Checker Auto. I know I will use it again so I didnt mind spending the money on it. Guy
  18. Yeah I see that but it just looks like the studs arent all the way to the top of the lugs holding spacer on? Am I just blind? Guy
  19. Dan actually I learned from another members site(I can remember what the site is right now though) that you should wire up the "F" terminal of that connector. From what I understand it is very critical if you use that other terminal what the resistance is because if you dont have it exactly like the factory did it will burn up the alternator! The other member that did this said this has worked for him and 2 other people he knows with out any problems! He found out the hard way and actually went through 2 alternators! Oh and Tim dont worry I plan to do exactly what you said and check it all over. I have that same worry about something going wrong! Guy
  20. Nice choise of rims! I have them in a 17x7 though. Universal means it will have 8 lug holes(for a 4 bolt pattern) One will be a 4x100mm pattern and the other will be a 4x114.5mm(I think its 114.5mm or is it just 114mm or is it completly different? ) Anyways heres a pic of my 17x7s(Monsoon rims!) http://www.datsun-280zx-lt1.com/Big_Pictures/Body_and_Wheels/rim1.jpg Hey Greimann did you use longer wheel studs on yours or are you still running the stock wheel studs to hold on the adapters? I thought you said you did but in that pic it doesnt look like? Guy
  21. Well I got my header situation fixed. Its ugly but its functional. After that I installed a fuel filter (inline type) and hooked up the wire to the alternator that charges up the field windings(yeah I didnt have that hooked up before and just couldnt figure out why my car would die after 10 minutes of running? ) So I took it down the road for a short little spin! I know one thing for sure that fuel filter is too small because it bawgs(sp?) down went I get into it a little bit. Oh well I will just have to get a bigger one with bigger lines on it. The sucky part about that is that this one was $19.00 I still have to hook up my voltmeter and water temp gauge. My fans and water pump are wired up and working like they should but I dont know how hot its getting So the water temp is first on my list of things to do. Thats why I didnt go too far, I didnt want it to over heat. All I can say is watch out man, cause this car hauls some ass! I can squak'em(sp?) in third pretty easily and it really goes even though its not getting the right amount of fuel. I have to go to a family event this weekend till Sunday so I wont get to work on it till then but its "balls to the wall" now. I've got an itchy gas foot! Guy
  22. Heres how much it has costed me so far with my 280ZX LT1/T56 swap .........http://www.datsun-280zx-lt1.com/Big_Pictures/OtherStuff/Money-on-ZX-Conversion.txt Does that help?
  23. No offense to anyone but this is the kind of stuff that makes me scared to work with carbs! Its also the reason I went EFI! I just dont have the patience to tune my car all the time and adjust the carb. I dont have that willingness to learn about carbs because I know they are on their way out(well atleast on the way of daily drivers, not dragsters or modified cars.) Guy
  24. Oh the thought has crossed my mind! LOL Well I just started it up and it still has a tiny leak on the header. I am going to fix it tommorow when I get home from work. I think after I fix this leak it will actually be fixed! I can say two things......1) a stick welder is not idea for welding on headers(mine is a cheap ass header and is only temporary so I didnt car if I screwed it up) and 2) my header may not look the best but atleast it wont leak! After I get my body kit and new tires I am saving up the $900 for a set of custom headers for my car cause for one they look like crap and for two this is way too much BS for a shitty header that really isnt going to get me any performance! Oh and I will have some burn out pics but you will have to wait till I break the engine and clutch in. Its going to be really hard staying off the gas but I know if I dont I could reck my engine and I really dont feel like shelling out the $$$$ for new engine parts! Guy
  25. Ok I think my header is fixed. I had to do some welding on it because it was leaking a little bit but I might finally get to hear what my exhaust sounds like coming out of the tail pipe 100%! I am waiting for it too cool down right now so that I can handle it but I will know within the hour wether or not I fixed it! If there is a God......please say I fixed it! Guy
