  1. Can you guys help me out here? I am going to get a new ignition system for my LT1 and I can't decide which one to get? Can someone please tell how I can tell how I can tell what kind of connector I have on my wiring harness? I bough my harness from Darius but I can't get a hold of him to ask him! It does have 2 connectors that go to the COIL! Does this mean I have the earlier model? Accel-----(from summitracing) The next generation of ignitions. Chevrolet/Pontiac: 1993-95 5.7L LT1 Camaro/Firebird, digital ignition system This is what happens when you combine the accuracy of computer technology and a highly efficient electronics design. You get the Accel 300+ digital ignition, which includes features that no other single ignition offers, such as: * Multiple spark discharge * 25 percent more spark current than the closest competitor * Draws 1/3 the current of other ignitions * "Intelligent" rev limiting lets you dial in top rpm without installing chips * Smaller size for reduced weight MSD 6AL--------(Thunder Racing) MSD Ignition Systems produce hot multiple sparks that ensure complete combustion of air / fuel mixture, resulting in increased performance over stock. Quicker throttle response Smoothed out idle and starting Reduced Spark plug fouling Improved Fuel Economy Helps Reduce Emissions So which one sounds good?

  3. Yeah what do you have to clean up? It already looks pretty good! Is there any rust that has to be removed? Or is that just dirt that I see in the picture? That looks nothing like my engine bay when I took the L28 out of my 280zx! Mine was a mess! Wires and hoses hanging everywhere. Now it looks very nice though! What year is your LT1? Look'n good so far! Guy
  4. Hey if your interested I have some "SPICER" U-Joints for sale!!(They are the ones on page 64 of MSA's yellow parts catalog. They sell for $32.95 a piece in there) I bought them for my ZX but I did the R200/CV swap instead. I will sell all for of them for $100(no shipping charges too!). Let me know if you are interested. Oh and they fit all 70-83 Z/ZX's halfshafts! Guy
  5. Why would you run a car with out the knock sensor? Isn't that an important sensor that you should have, if you can? Just curious! Guy
  6. What make wiring a FI engine any harder? Well I bought a harness for my LT1 so maybe that's why I think its easy? I just left the lights, washer pump, windshield wiper motor, horns, fuel pump, interior wiring, starter wires, and a few other "odds and ends" untouched. Although I don't have my engine in the car yet so I could have cut some wires that I thought I didn't need out! I should have my engine back this next weekend so I will find out soon if I cut too many wires! <----Praying to the electrical gods that I didn't cut too many wires! Guy
  7. Well how high do you think it should be? I think normal on a SBC is like 40-45lbs at the bottom of the engine and it gets lower as you go to the top when it is running some RPM's. Is this a fresh rebuild? If so the reason you might have such low oil pressure is because your rod and main bearing clearances are too high! Also are you sure you dont have a high volume pump? Guy
  8. Ah who needs a truck right! LOL Can't wait to see the numbers you guys put down! I am putting my LT1 back together right now. Just installed the cam bearings, freeze pulgs and oil plugs today! On Monday I'm going to Plastigauge the mains and rods and hopefully file fit my rings! Going to be a busy week next week. I am only projecting aboug 400HP at the crank though That's enough for my first V-8 Z though ! Good luck guys! Guy
  9. Hmm...so I am pretty close to the vertical angle, but now I need to try to correct the side to side angle? Guy
  10. Yeah I kinda figured that out last night when I went back out in the garage. Thanks for the info though! Guy
  11. I know this might be a better question for the EFI forum but I figure this could go here too! Here's the problem... I bought some 36# injectors for my car from a Mustang (Bosch). I was putting my intake off of my 93 LT1 back together(just got it back from being port matched to heads and 58mm TB match to intake) and I was putting my injectors in and from what I can tell they are too short! I thought that the Ford Mustang and Camaro injectors were the same? I bought these off of ebay from a guy who said they would fit!!! From what I can tell they dont!!! Does anybody have an old LT1 injector laying around that they can measure from tip to tip for me? Thanks, Guy
  12. Ok I took some measurements tonight... Here's a drawing with the measurements... Does it matter how much it is lined up from front to back? You know like if you were to look straight down the front of the car, how close do the tranny and diferential have to be lined up? Guy
  13. Sorry! I changed it once I found one of your posts! Thanks a lot JUDAY!! Guy
  14. Ok what throttle cable will work with my LT1 engine in my 280ZX? I was thinking of doing mine like Dan Juday. I found the pic of Dan's mount by the fire wall. But what does it look like connected to the TB? Dan are you out there????!!!! I need your help! Thank, Guy
  15. It goes on the drivers side of the engine. I can't find a pic of it though. Just look on ebay under "LT1 corvette" under "Parts" You should be able to find a pic there. Guy
  16. Yeah it should be set up for boost. I think S&S charges like $200 to burn a chip! And I am pretty sure that I have a 2 connector coil set up. Do all the LT1's have 2 knock sensors? Cause this harness has 2 connectors! Also you said that the 93 had 2 o2 sensors, right? Well where did the second one plug into the exhaust? There is a spot for one of them in one of the manifolds but not in the other??? Should I just put one in just below were the manifold connects to the rest of the exhaust system? So it wouldnt be in the manifold but it would be as close as possible. Thanks, Guy Oh yeah and I am starting the reassembley of my engine next week!!!!!! And I am getting my heads and intake back from porting and polishing/port matching intake/head rebuild!!!! To say the least this is a good week comming up!
  17. Yeah I might just have to do that. I was just wondering if anybody had a pic of each of the different connections? What about the chip? Is there fuel maps and stuff like that programmed onto the chip? Cause if I dont need a chip then that will save me $200. I just know that the VATS & EMMISIONS is not on the chip that is in the computer now.
  18. Ok I have a 93 LT1 and I know that it originally came with a 2 connector harness on the coil(right?) Here's the deal... I bought my harness from the notorious Darius when he upgraded to a stand alone system and I bought the computer too. Now I know he bought the harness from Street and Performance. What I don't know is what kinda of coil connector I have??? Can someone show me a pic of a 2 connector harness and a 1 connector harness? Also why does the harness have 2 O2 sensor wires? The original didnt? Should I put a second O2 sesnsor in? Also what goes into the programming of the chip? I know the chip thats's in the computer now has all the VATS and emmisions deleted but would it also be programmed for a supercharged LT1 since thats what his car was? Thanks, Guy
  19. My 1980 280ZX didn't have an EGR? Is that normal? I think it was a California Model ? Guy
  20. I get to run on a dyno at my school for FREE!!!!!! Yeah aren't I a little bastard! Since I am attending Fox Valley Technical College for a Automotive Technology Degree I get to run on the dyno for free. We have a Mustang Dyno. However when other people want to run on it we charge $60 for 3 runs. We also have a 3(or 4) gas analysier(sp?). Can't wait to get the LT1 on there in about a month and a half! Guy
  21. I am also using a 93 LT1 (Speed Density). I am upgrading to the 95+ Optispark unit, so yes you can using it with the OBDI computers. You have to get the 95-97 Optispark, 95-97 timing cover, and new electical harness for Optispark. It is a pretty straight forward swap. If I were you I would look for a 95 LT1. That way you get the updated Optispark and your still OBDI! Best of both worlds. I would have done this but I didn't do my homework before I bought my engine. Although some people say that Speed Density is easier to modify??? I personally have no idea??? Guy
  22. "should I buy?" YES!!! That is the bible for V-8 Conversions! It will be money well spent! Guy
  23. Yeah I have to agree with Mudge, save it for the dirt tracks! This guy had it coming with the way he was driving. It was only a matter of time before he went flying off the track. As you can see nobody else was driving like that and they were still moving a long quite nicely. Guy
  24. I dont think the Scarb/Hooker mounts are avalible anymore? Search through the archieves for that info. The MSA mounts are basically the sam thought I think. Scarb/Hooker/MSA all mount in basically the same position though. I think there is another company who makes mounts too, I think its like Johns Caror something like that??? I dont think there is anyway around it though, you will need a custom header for the driverside! Guy
  25. Well if you ask me that water pump was a really easy conversion! It only took about 45 minutes to do, total time! 5 minutes to press out old impellor, bearings and seals... 40 minutes to put in freeze plug, and grind the casing so that the CSI pump fits! Thanks for all the help guys! Guy
