Which spoiler should I get? Fiberglass or Urethane?
80LS1T replied to 80LS1T's topic in Body Kits & Paint
I always thought that urethane was easier to work with because it bends unlike fiberglass? So you think blending the fiberglass into the body will be easier than the urethane? Guy -
Well I went the paint store today to get primer but all I did was get more confused! I told the paint guy that I just want to sand the car down to get it dull and then spray primer over it. I asked him about the barrier coat and he said "well that all depends on if you have some dings and dents to fill in. If you have to fix any of the body you will have to spray "high build" primer in those spots and then you'll probably want to use some type of self etching urethane primer" He then asked me who was going to paint the car and I told him a guy from work that just quit to start his own paint shop(25+ years of painting experince). He knew who I was talking about and told me to go talk with him about which primer he wanted me to use since he was the one that is going to be doing the color. Well I went to go talk to my friend thats going to be painting it but he wasnt home so I didnt get a chance to talk to him. I was just wondering if you guys with some painting experice could shed some light on what I was told today? First I thought I had to spray the whole car and then fix the dents now I think I have to fix the dents and then spray the whole car. I just what to get a little more educated on what I need to do so I dont have to redo it! We need a thread for the beginner painters FAQ's...RacerX(hint) (hint)LOL Guy

I had the same problem(thats what that link that Davy posted is about). I dont know if a junk yard will sell just that flange since with out it the diff is useless. I think it cost me $30 to have mine modified so that it would fit. Just take the adapter and the diff flange to a machine shop and tell them to make it fit and they will. Its not a big deal for them since they have the machines to do it. Guy

While I will probably never be in the market for L28(ET) parts, its nice to know who not to deal with. Its too bad that you had to be the guinepig. I hope you can find your parts soon so that we can see more progress pics of your awesome car! Guy

Couldnt have said it better myself! I can't stand Boyd or the cars he makes. 9 out of 10 of them look like the last one he made. Yeah he makes some cool cars that are 1 offs but its not like he's designing it! FOOSE IS THE MAN! Guy

I am going to order my spoiler soon but I dont know which one I should get to suite my needs.... Fiberglass one. Urethane one. What I want to do is blend the spoiler into the body and then cut it where the deck lid opens so that it goes up with it when its open. Which spoiler would be easier to do this with? Thanks, Guy

I have hit a ton of deer and I've only been driving for 7 years. I live in a very wooded area and dear probably out number people! LOL I hit 3 with my first car. It was a 1986 Ford LTD with a 5.0L. I remember cruising to school one morning doing about 80mph on a back road with my best friend riding shotgun. Well a small doe decided that it was a good time to cross the road.....MAN O MAN you should have seen that deer go flying! I bet it was in the air for a good 50 yards! That car hit that deer like it was a rag doll! Only broke the chrome trim around the headlight on the passenger side and a bolt on the bumber. Costed me $20 to fix the headlights. Another time I was test driving my gilfriends car after fixing the coolant fans. I came around a 90 degree corner and BAM a deer runs into the drivers door! That scared the crap out of me! I never saw it coming. It put a small crack in the headlight and a small dent in the door. I thought it was funny but the GF was kind mad. But she got over it real quick because she knew there was nothing that I could have done to avoid it. Plus her car was a POS. LOL I have hit atleast a half a dozen deer with my truck. Only one has done any damage. This past November I was driving into work at 6:30am(it was still dark out) and I came around a small bend in the road and out pops a huge doe. Hit my drivers side headlight then went and smashed the lower bumper trim below the chrome part and went under both drivers side wheels. The worst part for the deer was that I used to have a "brush guard" on my truck and the mounts were still attached to the truck. The mounts where 90 degree bends and stuck straight out. Well the deer caught the one on the drivers side and it pretty much ripped the deer in half. It was pretty nasty! Man I've hit about a dozen deer! Thank god I have never hit one with my car......KNOCK ON WOOD! Guy

No offense Mike but when was the last time you saw an old car that was restored actually go for more that whats in it? I too would love to do what your thinking but I just cant see it as a source of income because most people wont pay more than what you have into the car for parts much less labor. The guys that do make money off of old cars are the ones who have had the car since new and didnt cost anything to restore because it never got abused. The guys who hang on to those old classics and store them are the ones who turn a profit. Now setting up a shop where you take peoples cars off the street and restore/hot-rod them, that is a differnet story. However you have to build up a reputation for doing very very good work before you get anyone knocking on your door. This is my dream job. I just want to restore/hot-rod say 5-10 cars per year from anywhere from the ground up to just a motor swap. Rich people will pay good money for show quality work. Nobody is going to pay for average workmanship for the kind of cars your talking about. That's my $.02 Guy

I wish I would have found this when I made my header! I just saw them on ESPN while watching a show in drag racing. They seem like a good idea for making headers or cages in cars! Seem kind of pricey but if you are making a set of headers or a cage they will seem like chump change when you look at the cost of pipes that are in mandrel bends. Costs a lot less to make the cut once! http://www.pipemastertools.com/ http://pipemastertools.com/store/page1.html Guy

Well I have a "makeshift" paint booth set up now. I have roughly 90% of the car tapped up. I am going to get my DA sander on wednesday and then begin standing next weekend. All I know is tapping up a car sucks. It seems like you'll never finish! LOL What grit of sand paper should I get for the DA to sand the whole car? Ok well I gotta go finish tapping the car up! Guy

Yeah when is this show? And do you have an address? Guy

Wow those "Paintucation" videos sure arent cheap! $40/video! Seems a little steep to me. I too would love to have a DVD that I could just pop into my laptop out in the garage and watch how they do it while Im doing it on my own car. I would pay $40 for a video that shows right from old paint to new paint. I might even pay a little more if it was a Hybridz'ers! LOL:wink: Guy

Yeah the 2005's have the 7/70. That warrenty is only for the internal parts on the engine and tranny though. It wont cover any sensors, steering, suspension, or a/c. My girlfriend picked up her neon sxt tonight. The guys at my dealership were nice enough to sell her the full 7/70 bumper to bumper warrenty to her at my cost....$900 vs $1400. She also got a 4 year oil change package for $200(16 oil changes @ $12.50). She saved $100 on that package because they sold it at my cost. She is very happy with hers. She thinks its "cute." She really likes the SRT-4 but it just wasnt in her budget. My roomate really wants a SRT-4. I took him for a ride in one a few weeks ago right before he picked up his 06' Scion Tc. He wishes that he would have bought a SRT-4 rather than the Tc. Thats what he gets for only test driving one kind of car! My suggestion for your first upgrade is get an oil catch can. Oil likes to get pooled up in the lower intake hose below the throttle body. I think its because of the extra air from the turbo sucking it from the PCV hose attached at the top of the throttle body and then it gets stuck in that hose. You'll see what I mean if you open your hood and see the routing of the PCV hose. Its not a big deal but from what I understand oil going into the turbo not via the oil line is bad. Oh and where the heck are the pics! Guy

Well my machinist suggested going back to the stock flywheel because thats what my crankshaft was balanced with. I didnt really want an aluminum flywheel, it just came with the clutch when I bought it off of ebay. I just figured I'd try it and see if I liked it. I am selling the Fidanza flywheel on ebay and them Im going to buy a new stock one from GM. Thanks for the info though. Guy
