  2. im digging the paint job and the flares
  3. another awesome informative post by john, i think 60% of what i learn on this forum has come from him...hrmmm haha
  4. nice writeup so far! keep up the good work. i'll be doing much of the same when i get my tax return haha.
  5. thank you guys for the very detailed info. the gas smell was my first hint something was wrong. since i had just got the car i havent had time to check everything out yet. hopefully this weekend when i get some time i can pop those caps off and take a look for debris. i also notice that it only leaks out when the fuel enrichment level is pulled more than 3/4 of the way. i'll need to check adjustments for the cable, is it also possible that it is pulling too much? either way i still am going to check for debris and cloggage to remove those possibilities.
  6. hey guys, sorry i should have had this thread closed or updated it. I ended up buying a '71 240z already. Best of luck with your sales!
  7. grats on the $500 find! i hope the motor is good too. was that a birds nest i saw ontop of the engine??? haha that donor rusty car really needed to be put to rest, glad you got something awesome out of it.
  8. i agree that you will see some better numbers with some more time tuning. what injectors are you running? if stock watch that injector duty cycle..you don't want a failure
  9. yeah it stops completely after the choke is closed. strange enough it only pours out of one of the vent hoses...i literally mean pours out
  10. you hit it dead on! i was playing with it earlier and with the choke engaged all the way, it is dumping fuel out of the vent hose into the air cleaner only on the carb closest to the dizzy. when put the choke back into normal position it slowly stops coming out of the vent hose.
  11. Hey guys, My 71 still has the original SU carbs on it, and ive run into a bit of a interesting issue..which im sure maybe 90% of you know about hehe. So I popped off the air cleaner cover and air filter to take a look because I've never opened it before since I just got the car a little while ago. I noticed when I removed the cover there was gas pretty much everywhere and dripping all over the place. Upon closer inspection (engine running) I noticed it was coming out of two holes, one by each carb opening. On the backside of the cover (facing the carbs/engine) the hole has a rubber fuel line going back to a smaller "module" on each carb. I have looked at a '72 manual but could not seem to find the name of the part, but i believe it to be part of the choke system. Can anyone confirm this or point me in the right direction in the FSM. Yes I am new to carbs and the only other carbs I have had was on my CBR600. Either way one of those holes is leaking massive amounts of gasoline while the other is dry. Any help in indentifying the part/function would be really appreciated. Thanks!
  12. you sir deserve major complements for all the work. im amazed at all the nice builds on this forum, but after reading this i am just really really really amazed lol
  13. I am not 100% sure...but I think those are SSR Mark IIs
  14. this looks like it is going to be an awesome build! im just about to start tearing mine down as well.
  15. im sure there would be interest for people to save some money on getting custom mounts. i agree though that the most wanted option would be the oil pan, however that isn't really part of your project.
  16. haha the original 'devil z', how long ago was that car built? any pictures handy of the sinohara L28TT setup? searched around and only found some specs, but no working pictures =(
  17. awesome find! haha 12 boxes of spare parts sounds like a treasure to me
  18. wow that looks VERY nice! congrats on the successful swap! you mentioned the carbs were from a race setup, any pics of the original car/setup? just curious
  19. over the weekend i managed enough time to take both doors apart. i cleaned and lubed the lock mechanism and sure enough it was just rusted stuck on both doors into one position where it would not budge. now the doors open and close well and LOCK. however..i lost the clip at the back of the lock cylinder that holds the arm for the locking mechanism. asdkoakdl;ask!!!!! it fell inside the door when i popped it off and seemed to magically dissapear. i was going to try to go to a few hardware stores to see if i could find one like it. anyone have knowledge of where this kind of clip is sold?
  20. good to see that you kept the car man! sucks about the window though, were u wearing a watch? haha 4x4 calipers im guessing?
  21. looking good so far! no park bench bumpers on a 280z = cleaaann
  22. well late last night i was cleaning and spraying lube on a few of the moving parts, but i wasn't able to finish up. so far still no luck in getting the door to stay closed. it does seem like the latch mechanism is stuck in the open position and not latching completely closed after shutting the door. if you just push on the door gently from the inside it doesnt open, but if you put all your weight on it, it opens. same from the outside, if i dont use the door handle and just pull on the door with the window down..same result. i'll investigate more after work, thanks for all the help and keep the suggestions coming also i dont think the mechanism is doing anything when i pull the handle. i hear a noise of the arms inside the door moving, but i dont believe the circle latch on the outside moves. i did not try this however after removing the door panel...is the circle latch on the outside of the door supposed to move when you pull the door handle?
  23. the rust doesn't look really bad, i have seen a lot worse. no holes = good haha. you are just going to have to get rid of all that surface rust before it becomes a more serious problem.
  24. so on my 71 240z the driver door closes properly and the key "locks (or appears to)" the door, but with a good pull from the outside or push from the inside it will open without using the handle. common problem? tried searching but couldnt find the same problem. any suggestions?
