any shop near san diego reccomed for a swap

If I already had a reliable l28et in the car I would have spent the 10k on a year's worth of fun upgrades while I partially drove it and got to experience the metamorphosis first hand. That's how you really enjoy the money you throw at it. Otherwise it's just 10k on a nice car that you bought as is and will slowly inevitably get bored of. -
LOL! Good point! WHY THE HELL HAVEN'T WE HEARD OF THIS GUY BEFORE? Haha! He's got some conspiracy going on and I just plain don't like it! Either way, nothing about that thing says over 400hp to me. If it gets 600hp and is 8k, then I bought the wrong car...But still, on the cleanliness thing I would think if you had the mad skills and cash to get 600hp out of an old l28, you'd have a little pride in it and at least wash the freaking thing. I know I would have been sure to not "lose" that dyno sheet that I threw good money at.

Would it be a good rule of thumb to say a freshly swapped car would be worth about the price of the donor plus the new parts minus the labor? It really depends on the condition of both and especially the quality of the parts swapped in (more so than the appearance of the car itself since they are basically a dime a dozen when not completely cherry), but quite possibly worth that. Upgrades and tunes are pretty much null, since it's doubtful that anyone buying a car like that is looking to settle with however it rolls into their driveway anyhow.

To the designer??: Wow, that's pretty freaking badass. Did you have a few other cars in mind when coming up with this? I think It has a certain aston martin charm to it. Well, until I saw th rear shot, that's a totally brand new concept car look, very extreme indeed. I do like the dip in the roof, it's unique and adds character. It reminds me of a lotus elise, but whatever you do, don't put a "scoop" there or anything. I'd like to see a straight side shot of it so that the depth doesn't distort the true length for a better idea of the curve of the roof. I also like the door handles. At first I didn't even notice them; very discreet yet practical. I also admit I have the hots for centralized exhaust tips. Would it be taboo to get rid of the headlight buckets as a separate piece altogether? That's probably the only seam that could never be totally aesthetically pleasing, and I think your modifications to the car has outgrown them. If I had to change anything, it would be the extra leg on the bottom of the airdam as seen in the wire mesh. It isn't so pronounced in the last full color rendering, but perhaps keep it going straight across without the dip in the middle. I've never been a big fan of airdams with a leg like that to begin with, even if they are actually functional on race cars and whatnot. Very nice lines, some of which sharp and blending out into the curve of the car exquisitely. A few concerns may include how tiny those bullet mirrors seem to be--I never like the bullet type mirrors such as the ones everyone gets off ebay, but these are okay. Also, it is hard to get an idea of what the headlights actually look like. Are they somewhat egg shaped? It seems as if the peak is pointed in a strange direction in relation to how the body comes to a point at the edge of the headlight buckets. Lastly, probably the biggest concern is that the front tires seem to actually stick out of the wells. I'm not sure if this is what you were going for, but the airdam is somewhat narrow in relation to the wheels and it would actually dump the split air right into the face of the tires instead of around them. Perhaps tucking them in just an inch to clear the wheel wells would suffice. I'd buy one, or at least save every penny and try. How possible is this? One hurdle with any far out redesign is the increasingly impracticality of actually being able to modify the real thing to match the idea. As a totally new model though, it would make me cry. The msrp would probably have to be at least triple the original just to account for it's exotic car impression.

Do you plan on turbocharging it later on? I would think that the best thing for the radiator would be to point it right at the direction of the incoming air for the most efficient flow.

You mean save the money on buying a new ems and instead invest in getting the current one professionally tuned? I have no idea how much that would cost, but how effective is it? I'm assuming that special equipment not easily available in the states would be needed--I've heard that these ecu's aren't diagnostics etc. friendly as others since they weren't ever officially imported... The other option I looked at was buying an rb26 ecu already tuned by one of the sticker companies like mines or something, but those sure aren't cheap! What are the chances that I can download a prom and it will be good to go? Man I sure with it was like in the movies where I could hack in from my cell phone and recode the ecu to run twice as efficiently by the time I land, because also I was in a plane while doing so.
-
Well I certainly don't think I'll have the energy to take my car into a shop to have the ems set up for me--it would probably only be worth doing if I could set it all up myself. I guess an expert with a dyno could work a few kinks out after if it proves impossible to smoothen out, but ideally, plug and play should mean just that. If the systems you guys speak of hook up to a laptop and have solid software written in english, then I'd be game for spending a weekend figuring it out and fine tuning everything. I guess I could always go megasquirt and literally build the thing myself--screw the middleman! ...When I finally get to exhaust I'll be taking everyone's opinions on what route to go, because I really have no idea and I don't want to spend all this time and money to end up with something that sounds pathetic or anything. 3" exhaust would be about the sum of the two turbo outlet sizes, but I don't have an opinion on single versus dual yet. There's not a whole lot of room down there either. I guess the idea is to unleash the true sound of the rb, somewhere in the middle of a scale of 1-100, 1 being rat rod and 100 being fart can.

I know this thread is dead and all, but I'm curious about this Microtech ECU. I think I'm in the boat that would like to keep my mafs if I could for slightly better fuel economy and idle etc. in all conditions. I would also really like to keep my crank angle sensor but the short description of this ecu on their website didn't say much about that kind of thing. Also, do you know of hp gains through switching to this ems from stock?

I remember seeing one of you guys on here with led tail lights, but I don't remember the car being white. Anybody you know driving a fly white z in Lakewood with led tail lights?
-
I'm still kinda up in the air about louvers. I know the quarter window ones don't look so hot. The hatch louvers seem to depend on the color of the car. If it's black, you probably can't go wrong. And it would help keep the car cool on those sunny days. But if you get louvers, don't get the plastic ones. They always seem to have thick ribs connecting them in the middle somewhere for strength, and that just seems tacky.

I ordered the ATI #918599 damper today for $430 from Summit and it should be in stock in about two weeks... I got the driveshaft back today. Ended up making a whole new one. They told me that the yoke is pretty much expendable, which I think means that they just didn't have the right size U-joint by itself, so I had to buy a whole new yoke for 80 bucks. They also ended up making a whole new shaft and put on a new rear flange, which is nice since the old joints were probably 35 years old. The only thing not so nice is I ended up paying full price, $350. The new shaft weighs 12lbs. Pics are in for the mounting of the fuel filter and pump. Seems pretty legit. Especially the free line I scored, which is a huge overkill rated at some ridiculous pressure for marine use. The ridiculous fan and thermostat--which will tap into the radiator--I ordered from Summit also came in the other day (starting to see a pattern?). Don't ask. An interesting little modification to keep the old intake rubber usable. Turned aluminum with a tapped hole. I still don't know what the original was like. I'm assuming it was a tube with the same function but also extended to the other turbo intake for some kind of equalization? The flange on the front intake is going to be cut flat and a straight tube welded on if I didn't mention that already. I noticed someone else on here had the same idea, to get rid of the bend and make more room for an air filter, but I can't remember who it was. Here's the before configuration to clarify: My heater is hooked up. Huge step. Huge. I guess I'll go put in the drive shaft now and then sip on coffee until some more ic tubes off ebay and the new balancer arrive. Side note, I've changed routes at least once already--it is likely that I will have plenty of leftover ic goodies if there are any takers. -

Think Zoolander: I got some chains if you're into that. Nah, I'm just kidding! But seriously though, they're in the back room... -
Ouch! The important thing is it's a great color. At least he called you out. He didn't even mention my name, that's how slow my car is One of these days, Alice! One of these days! ...I mean Careless. This thread is a really good idea though and is primo in its construction, except for the few hiccups including but not limited to this post.

Well you have so many posts in practically every relevant thread, at least a few of them are bound to be hilarious. Just kidding. But seriously though, my sentiments exactly. -
RB Single Pulley? Anyone know where to find one?
getoffmyinternet replied to 240Z_Master's topic in Nissan RB Forum
I called ATI today and without asking where I live, the guy quoted $480 for the r32 street 500hp #918599, which I'm pretty sure is what most of us are talking about here, right? I think he was just trying to get rid of me. :'( -

Touche, Nissan! -
Where are all the 240z commercials?? So I guess the gist of the other z's is, awesome! "So lavishly appointed there are virtually no opions!" "Look, no hands!" "Maybe you're someday, is now!" "Computerized, digitalized, civilized." "Once again, the last letter in the alphabet is the last word in sports cars." "Skyrat, this is Dirtybird, do you read me?" You guys, it's really time for skyline commercials. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zPmjrVwhws0 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zT5eQXuFNLo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o-oE8YXs07g

I still don't know what that means. Is that a crowbar you're wielding? I don't even know what's going on anymore. Careless is in another world, but I guess I should have known that--it's in the name (but not to be confused with carefree of course.) -

I probably asked this already in some form, but I still don't get the advantages or disadvantages of O2 v. MAP. Correct me if I'm wrong, but nobody has both right? I assumed the map sensor would basically do the same thing that you described, although a shot in the dark I would say that sensing o2 right at stage one would be more precise. I dunno, somebody enlighten me on map sensors and why an aftermarket ems would have you switch over. -
Haha! Believe me, that's exactly what I said. Balancer would be last on the list, but... My eccentric dad recommended putting an ungodly fan in that would require too much room, so his solution was to have the a/c pulley machined off and I literally said, "What about balance issues? I don't think that we can machine off very much because it looks structural, and if you machine off too much it will probably come apart." So he says, "Naw, it will probably still be balanced fine, and I'm sure that outer pulley will machine right off." So I says, "I really don't want to risk it" to which he replies, "Fine, we'll leave it on. We're just going to have to work around it." The NEXT day, he goes "Yeah, I took the damper off. We really need more room, so I think we should have a friend of mine machine it off." And I reluctantly said, "Fine" as I hate to argue because I kinda need him for a bunch of things and I have to keep him happy. The next day we're in the garage installing fuel lines. He gets a call from his buddy. "Bad news, I machined off the outer pulley but the whole thing came apart and is now in three pieces." The end. ANYWAY, I'm still not finding very much. I'm going to call ATI tomorrow and perhaps talk to Romac, but so far even though you said some of them are cheaper than ATI it seems that is going to be the lowest price out of the other major brands. Unless that has something to do with you being in Canada... By the way, are all these guys from Australia or what? I'm trying to find something local to compete with Ati, but the rollmaster and ross tuffbond sites I'm seeing are way over there. Anyway, it's hard to tell from the little pictures, but it looks like on the ross version that a/c pulley doesn't come off, anyone know? And is your romac only one belt? That would be pretty nice if its even thinner as I'm obviously never going p/s. Although, if I some day go a/c it might be a little interesting. Some day...

Nice. "Tomlinson adds, 'I mean we aren't even really that strapped for cash: in fact, nothing at all will be affected by the bankruptcy, except that our debts will go away.'" * *This is not an actual quote. I love bankruptcy. "You know, you can't just shout out bankruptcy and expect anything to happen." .. "I didn't shout it, I declared it." - The Office.

Hehehyeahhhh... Whatever happened to that thing anyway? I found myself searching for corn cornises to see if anything had changed, but this thread is the only living remains of that one.
