  1. this is why i love hybridz
  2. well i have a maxima and the motor is absolutely silky smooth i love it. in my max i can pull c4 corvettes mustang 5.0s those big sledlike GTPs and stuff and thats in a FWD 4 door 3090 lb sedan ive even pulled a brand new maxima that has 265 horse but thats with all my custom modifications i made, nothing serious but i have a tuneable intake (change the distance between the filter and the maf affects intake velocity) and a custom ypipe i fabbed up. i would LOVE that motor in a Z infact if i find one of those trannies i may just go and buy another Z hehe
  3. i was under the impression that the VQ30 motors shared the same block as the VQ35 so i would assume that the 6spd gearbox would bolt up to any maxima motor from 95-2004 !
  4. my friend has a set of heads for sale that we bought at a swapmeet last year. dart alum 215s, fully ported, rebuilt 0 miles, titanium 2.1 intake 1.6 stainless exhaust, double valve springs, unknown retainers locks. now providing i take them to my machine shop and they check out they are engraved "bill mitchell" id be putting these on a stock shortblock for now i know they are pretty big for stock but lemme know what you guys think. he wants 600 for them -pete id run a suitable cam like a summit 1105 but the rest of the motor would be stock. might do comp cam pro magnum rockers if im doing these heads not sure though
  5. as always grumpy thanks for the exhaustive input. i realize a set of good aftermarket heads are worlds better than stock but if i was going to spend 700 dollars on heads i would build a bottom end thats worthy of them. my motor is a recon (read sh*t) rebuild. all the spring retainers are different the crank has .015 endplay (vaguely remember thats out of tolerance). because i decided to make my own engine mounts to my frame rails i bought a used weiand single plane manifold at a swap meet for 50 bucks and used that to mock the motor up so i could eventually run a tall manifold and keep the stock hood. anyways, this motor doesnt deserve alot of money or a 700 dollar set of heads or to be honest even a 500 dollar set of heads in my opinion. i want to do a cam just to play with it and learn something about motors, i was going to even use a used cam sourced from another hybridzer but i havent decided yet. i figured while i have the motor out i could get rid of my crappy heads install a cam install a new crank dampner and a new crank pulley (need to be replaced) fix my oil pan leak and keep my manifold and edelbrock 1405. then this winter build a motor possibly. right now money is tight but i have tons of time to play, anything is better than what i have which is why i posted if these were any good. BTW i do cut and paste every response youve given me so far about engines and cams and the like to files on my computer so your efforts arent wasted thanks -pete
  6. thats the number the owner gave in the description. i emailed him about valve springs and the like and for more information. i wanted to bump up compression a little bit seeing at my motor is completely stock and i saw the intake ports on my heads when putting on my manifold and they are almost half the size of the gasket holes im pulling the motor later this spring to check out the tranny check out the clutch install a new crank dampner do the heads and cam. everyone says to do vortecs but id rather not buy a new manifold because this motor will only be in the car for another year or so . i might even part with it and build up another Z so i want to spend as little as possible - pete
  7. hey i found these on ebay they are in jersey a few hours away from me the guy has a buy it now of 150 and they have been freshened up, if im not mistaken a set of used heads is worth at least that. they look much better than my crappy 882 heads but i cant find their casting number anywhere except for one mention of a "goodwrench saga series" or something 93417369 is the casting number and heres the link, let me know what you peeps think, im just getting into this stuff and i want some opinions thanks in advance - pete http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2469885168&category=33617
  8. umm couldnt this transmission be used to bolt a vq motor into a 240z? i have a 98 maxima and the VQ30 is siiiiiiiiiiiilky smooth and its light as well. isnt the vq35 identical to the vq30 ?????
  9. ross is very knowledgable ive spent well over 1000 dollars just with him and i anticipate buying practically everything i need for my Z that i can get from him, be patient hes a good man and he tries very hard to offer the absolute best he can. his rear disk swap even comes with fast orange hand cleaner !!!!!!! how thoughtful
  10. so far every brake upgrade part on my car has come from ross, i can single handedly vouch for the absolutely perfect fitment of everything and the fit and finish is superb. i dont think ive ever spent so much money in one place for Z parts in my entire build, and ive done it without a single doubt, i cant wait till i can finally bolt some 5 lugs on my car. Great work Ross, and thanks for your support of the HybridZ community !! I would also like to mention that im opening up my own shop in a few months, it will be a small custom fabrication shop. Once ive aquired most of the equipment i need, and im satisified with the fit and finish of my work i will be offering thinks like control arms. I would love to be able to support this community as Ross does. (dont worry i dont intend to compete with you Ross)
  11. i will probably be one of the first to put some money in your pocket in exchange for some hubs so dont worry
  12. i was just playing around and i started to fab up the lower brackets mine looks to be about 20 degrees from vertical, is there any downside to using aluminum tubes like the ones you have for the radiator hoses?
  13. i just picked up an afco aluminum radiator it measures 24 wide by 19 tall, id like to mount it where the old one was mounted (custom mount) but it ends up really low, at the bottom, should i look into mounting it at an angle or will i not have the space? ive seen some rads mounted like this on other Z's any opinions?
  14. im also very interested in this setup, and i have faith in your work
  15. holy crap , thats gonna keep me busy untill next summer, THANK YOU
  16. well as far as the wisdom teeth i went sledding the other night and hit a big jump the front of my sled dug in upon landing and i went head first into the snow over my back and onto my ass. then i realized i was spitting blood and that the moron stitched one of my gums to my cheek. anyways back to the chevys, i have a weiand single plane with the splitter thingy that i bought at a swap meet and put on my motor so that i could set my motor just low enough to clear with the big manifold. i know its way too big for what i have now, but it looks cool and itll make a great direct port manifold later on. anyways what did the l98 heads come in ? and whats a good price for a clean pair?
  17. alright well here goes, after sitting around for 5 days (got my wisdom teeth yanked) id done a bunch of research and talked to a few people about the motor in my Z its a recon rebuild chevy 350 the block is a 2 bolt main 3970010 and the heads are 333882s so here is my list of questions. i did some research and found out that the heads on my motor are pretty darned restrictive. im interested in a budget build so id probably use iron heads... whats the best factory casting to start with that has accessory bolt holes? since my Z is in running condition right now should i use this seasoned bored block as the basis for a new motor, or do i get an unbored seasoned block? id like to do a 2 bolt main block so i can use the milodon splayed 4 bolt caps, this setup is stronger then the traditional factory 4 bolts correct? my overrall goal for the motor is 400 hp without completely stressing all the parts in it IE: id like to build the motor so that i dont have to pin it to redline to make all that power, is this realistic with a budget built 350 ? my last question is, who has published good books on building chevy motors, i see books at the speed shop all the time but what books do you guys prefer?
  18. for wheeling torque is good, however gobs of torque also breaks parts, recently ive spent some time wheeling with friends the guys with the cammed 4 cylinders do just as well as the v8 guys, the trick is the transfer case and your gears if your going for all out wheeling, i still think i should get at least one of the motors though 8)
  19. hey how come in this picture the upper spring perch on the left sits higher in the upper strut mount then on the right?
