Difference with new urethane bushings?
peej410 replied to patzky1's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
i did the poly bushings all around 2 years ago, since then ive only driven the car a few thousand miles. the car handles like a new car. (ive done extensive chassis modifications) they didnt squeek at all. overrall i was very happy with them. -
More Transverse Bushings Ideas?
peej410 replied to buZy's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
someone design it and ill make a prototype, im not working now and i have free time and i want to have something besides garage burnout videos and rollcage pictures to offer the hybridz community ooo and check out my new photos http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/peej410/album?.dir=b912 to see if you guys think im capable of doing this -
ive been building a cage in a 944 SCCA car its just a shell and i dont work directly with the owner (working in a shop) so i couldnt tell anyone what year it is. but i do know that i took measurements off of the CAST ALUMINUM suspension subframe and its about 30-31 inches wide. itll hold a power steering rack. and its front steer. it looks VERY similar to my 72, it just doesnt have the same motor mounts. i just thought id mention this if anyones lookin for a power rack upgrade. i think it would go well if your doing framerails and stuff at the same time -pete oh and if needed i could probably get some photos

haha, having started my project with no knowledge and now attained a great deal after 3 years of playing, my door gaps are shot !!! but thats ok i learned in the process and now im not afraid of modifying my doors to make it all look right eventually. here are the pics of all my progress http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/peej410/album?.dir=b912 note: i measured well just did way too much welding. ive used about 18lbs of welding wire so far hahahaha

finally, scarab V8 ... JTR radiator..taurus fan
peej410 replied to waynekarnes's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
why didnt you just buy the jtr mount kit to set the motor back, that and the dshaft woulda been cheaper then you could sell the scarab kit http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/peej410/detail?.dir=b912&.dnm=b768.jpg&.src=ph this is what i did -
The poor man's rear toe-in adjuster
peej410 replied to blueovalz's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
sorry i should have been more clear, as far as aesthetics i like the way the car looks with the tires tucked. i want to run larger wheels and tires because mine only spec out to 23 inches (what i got the car with) which would keep my suspension where it is but lift the car another more than 2 inches by going to a 25.4 inch tire setup. lifting the suspension pickup points would bring the suspension closer to where it belongs stock as far as geometry. overrall id have 5 inches of ride height, which is right where id like it to be. raising or lowering the inside pick up points would effect the camber gain and other geometry but not really the ride heighy because the struts would still mount in the same location, utilize the same springs and still work overrall in the same manner -
The poor man's rear toe-in adjuster

ive played with a few ideas, but nothing concrete yet. later this winter i might do something about it because i love how low my z sits (which happens to be way too low) so im going to run a taller wheel tire combo all around to raise it up a bit but i dont want to lose that rear geometry. i dont mind custom control arms so maybe ill figure something out. thanks for the input -
The poor man's rear toe-in adjuster
peej410 replied to blueovalz's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
hey, this is a little off topic but has anyone ever considered a modification that raises the inner pickup points? i helped my boss design a modification for porsche 914s that raises the rear pickup points 3 inches. he races in SCCA and he said that after correcting the rear geometry he didnt notice an increase in handling, but an increase in his comfort pushing the car to its limits. i know because of the current design this may be infeasible but i thought id throw it out there anyways -
its a daily driver, as far as im concerned having a bar right next to my skull is worse in a daily driver than it is necesary to have one there for "racing reasons" if sliding through a corner i whacked a curb and hit my head on the cage i think it would be alot worse than the highly unlikely rollover accident. either way my head is basically right in front of the main hoop. ive been building cages a few years and my boss has been building them for 15 plus years and after lots of thought we decided its better like this.

i went to thompson motor speedway today and scored big on some cool car parts first is the price i paid then how much they are new moroso accusump: 20 - 175 oberg 600 oil filter: 20 - ~200 spun aluminum air cleaner assembly: 10 - 57 NIB arp stainless engine bolt kit: 45 - ~100 5 NIB 5/16 heim joints: 5 - ? 4 AVP power plugs: 10 - 60 now granted the aircleaner assembly the filter assembly and the accusump are used but that to me is still a screamin deal !! i love swapmeets!

no way, so i actually got lucky with something car related finally the heads i have have less than 2000 miles on them what do u think about just putting some new valve seals in them ? and does hot tanking ruin valve guides ? im only 22 im not working so that i can concentrate on my car (gotta love my parents for putting up with that) my father doesnt know anything about cars, everything so far is self taught except for workin a lathe and a mill. i bent a valve in my motor when i had it running being and idiot and doing a burnout. overreved the crap out of it. hehehe and i pulled the head replaced and lapped the valve properly set the valve lash this time (way too tight on that one because i had to replace a rocker and didnt know what i was doing) after i put it together it ran great except for the plugs getting oil fouled and the motor eating up a bunch of oil when i put synthetic in it (another mistake i guess) one last question, do you put rtv or something on your head bolts to keep coolant from leaking past the threads or no ?

hehe my last wrong wheel drive car was my maxima, stomping C4 vettes and stuff like modified irocs 5.0 mustangs dsms and all sorts of other stuff was much much fun, but its more fun pulling 5-10 car lengths on a g35 in my Z just cuz i had to learn how to wring every little ounce of power out of the maxima to make it fast. i love not having to give it full throttle to go fast:)

i believe he worked directly for ohlins usa but im not exactly sure ill find out today and get back to you, i know hes running ohlins on his porsche 914 race car
-
hehe as far as im concerned, more power to you do what you wish with what you got. i chose the v8 because its the least expensive and the simplest to work on.
-
most of that is similar or identical to what ive read so far in david vizards books. the reason why i want to go inexpensive is because its my first build. to me inexpensive is 1500 complete for a healthy motor with mostly new parts. ive already sourced two very good machine shops. a good friend of mine just started working at the closest one and everything you mentioned is stuff he has told me to make sure i do and only until i started researching heavily did i actually understand what he meant he also just finished assembling his first motor a 351 just last month. i like bushed rods because most of the porsche motors ive dissasembled in the past had them and its alot easier. the extra cost for this conveniance doesnt bother me one bit. also, i thought 882s werent a good head?
-
i think since this is my first build, i might get cheap bushed rods a set of cast pistons get one of my cranks polished throw some new bearings in there and a decent set of heads. try and keep the costs down

the 77 had sat for a while (didnt know when i bought it ) and theres sand in one of the bores and rust in another so it will need machining. i did come up with a design for my dash tho which is good news after two days getting practically nowhere with the dash design. i just woke up at 5 am with it fully layed out in my head. almost everything already figured out. so i had to get up to draw it out before i lost the details forever. it was like boom my eyes are open dash design done. i guess in spite of stabbing it with q-tips all the time my brain decided to help me out this time
