  1. If you have enough piston slap or part of the skirt is missing to make that kind of noise, then the piston may be tilting enough to show lower compression on that cylinder.........which is easy to check.

As far as inspection, I would start with the easiest things first like inspecting under the valve cover.

If you don't find anything there, pulling the pan is a bit labor intensive but you can check both the lower side of the pistons and the rod bearings.

  2. I was wondering if there are distributor caps available for the Z31 and maxima distributors from 1984 to 1989 that have conventional upward pointing terminals instead of the compensated side terminals?

Distributor diameter needs to be kept to the minimum so I can't go with a later pathfinder or quest distributor.

  3. Does a TH700r4 default to 2nd or 3rd gear when a sensor or switch input is missing?

    Many transmissions do.

    Definately count your gearshifts.

What is the rear end ratio?

  4. The aladdin came out in 1929.

I can actually cover holes up to 1/4 inch without filling them using the aluminum brazing rod from harbor freight........which is a probably a chinese copy......but it works fine.

Just make sure the surface is clean.

I've also repaired nicks in props with it.

  5. You'll be pleased to know that I'm quite positive there is no drive train part that is equally or more complicated than the STi.

    I raise you a Mitsubishi 3000gt vr-4

I wonder if Bob Lentz still has his GT2 inline 6s now that he went to a VQ in his GT2 car.

The guys who used to run Datsun Dynamics might have a line on engines already built or can build a gt2 engine.

Thier current enterprise is auto expectations in sterling, VA.

  6. At our local U-pull yesterday, I saw 2 acura 3.5tl engines, 2x H22s, 1x L-26, 5x vg32de, 4x vh45de, 2x lincoln markVIII engines, a billion vg30s, 3 2jzge, 5 LS400 engines, and about 11 northstar motors that looked untouched.

Engines are now $250.00 complete rather than the lower price of just the long block.

Not a single LSx engine has even been spotted at these yards but tons of LT-1 are there.

Of course condition means almost more than the engine type.

  7. I pulled a u-haul trailer from front royal virginia to Orlando.....then back up to virginia empty for another trip down to orlando in 3 days..........paying only the one way trip from front royal to orlando.

Good thing I was in front royal where they were too lazy to even watch me hook up or Uhaul would never have allowed a 280zx to connect up a trailer this size.

I built a large receiver type hitch which used the bumper shock bolts in addition to bumper mounting but was short enough such that I didn't worry about something pushing the assembly into the fuel tank if I got hit or hit something.

I packed a few rubber dogbones in the rear springs to limit the down travel of the suspension and carefully loaded the trailer to keep tongue weights managable and the car drove perfectly level and smooth.

Of course, the turbo seized only 200 miles into the trip so I cut a thin piece of stainless from a floppy disc, undid the two bolts on the turbo drain, slid the metal in to block the turbo drain, replaced the "T" on the oil supply with the gauge sender, and disconnected the wastegate actuator to keep the gate open.

Then I drove around a large tire tread from a truck on the highway and it clipped one of the long tire valve stems and cracked it such that centrifugal force would only cause leaking when the car was going fast.

I noticed it when I was filling the tire and found a very short flat head wood screw and used it as a buttress to keep the valve from being pulled by the forces at speed......but not before using ultra black to seal it.

10 miles later, I got my second flat tire in 23 years but I happened to have a zx turbo swastica wheel and tire I was transporting so I used that as the spare congratulating myself on fixing the other tire instead of swapping the spare at that time.

I drove on that tire and seized turbo for 6 months.

I later towed a 1984 maxima with a car dolly using the 280zx.

Great car for towing as long as you only brake in a straight line and don't even attempt it if the zx has bad rear shocks.
