Was reading a few more of your posts. I should know in a month or 2 if my build is finally going to happen. Everything is going smooth right now. Aside from needing a new steering rack my car is good enough to drop a monster into.
How much led time would you need?
I can do the rear wheel drive pans in about a week and the all wheel drive pans take a little longer.
-
here are some pics of Zreddy's pan that I have been working on. Zreddy wanted a dipstick mod on the pan. This pan is for his rb26.
-
What brake did you get? I would LOVE to have one.
I got mine at harbor frieght for about 50 bucks. It bends 16 gauge steel perfectly. I want to get a box pan brake next.
-
I went with the rb20 because of the cost and how easy this swap is.
-
Yes I can do the pick up also. I charge 475.00 for the rear wheel drive block and 575.00 for the all wheel drive block plus shipping. That includes the custom pan,a modified pickup and sealant to seal the pan to the block. Let me know if you need one, I'll be glad to make you one.

Yes I can do aluminum now. I sent you a pm
-
It's the geometry of the top plate that I had a problem with. I don't think you will have a problem with that shifter.
-
U can but I believe the Silvia diff is a short nose r200 and the r200 out of a datsun is the long nose r200. You would have to modify everything to make it work. You can make it work though. I know I have read about doing the swap on this forum. Check in the driveline section

I thought the same thing. I bought a short shifter and it wouldn't work. I was about to order another shifter and found out that there isn't a short shifter for a rb20. I found this link above. I was going to order a ka striker arm but I decided to modify the stock rb striker arm. I cut the arm and added 15 mm to the shaft and welded it all together. Then it fit like a dream. I also had to drill another hole on the shifter housing to fit on the rb trans and then fill up the other hole on the shifter housing.

That's a tight fit. Looking good, great progress

Why is it so slow here lately? 1 post a day. I just have to ask because I'm getting bored at work. LOL

I picked up a new sheetmetal brake and other toys to make these oil pans this past couple weeks. I have been playing with all the new sheetmetal tools, Check out this pan I built for RB240AFZ. And I picked ut a new tig welder Miller syncrowave 200 ac/dc. Now I CAN DO STEEL AND ALUMINUM
-
If you can get the part number any nissan dealer can get the parts. I ordered parts from 2 dealers on the west coast. Z1 motorsports started carrying parts. Ebay has tons of rb parts. Put it this way you can find any part for a rb on the internet.
-
not hard at all now. I have been able to find all the parts I need.
-
I would go with the rb because I'm a turbo guy. Just shim those mckenney mounts and your good to go.
-
Thanks Pat, I have some pictures of my pans for you but I'm trying to see if I can upload them. One pan is steel and the other is aluminum. When will you be able to work with aluminum?
I just picked up brand new miller syncrowave 200 ac/dc tig welder. I'll be able to weld aluminum soon. I still need to get filler rods and tungstens which I just ordered.

You and me both
I will be sending you my oil pan in a week and a half - two weeks.
Sounds good to me. Just let me know

Looking good Man. I can't wait to see it in the car.

q45 is a short nose r200 with a lsd and a 3.54 gear ratio. Your going to need a driveshaft anyways so you could use it but you will also need the adapters from www.modern-motorsports.com. to attach the cv shafts to your stub axles. I remember that we used a r200 out of a 300zx turbo and the output shafts out of a 280z's r200 and then you can use the stock 280z haftshafts. It's really how much you want to spend. You can make this project into a money pit fast. What do you plan do do with the car? Are you going to race it? or just have fun
-
the 300zx rearend comes with a lsd you have to get this out of a 87 88 300zx turbo (I think) it comes with the 3.7 gear gatio and then you need to get the adapters from www.modern-motorsports.com. to bolt th cv shafts to your stub axles.
but that can get $$$$$$$$$$. You can get a r200 with a lsd for alot less. The r200 from a 280z is easier and cheaper. The cv hafts will hold up to more power than the 280z haftshafts but I have NEVER broken one on mine. Years ago I had a turbo toms set up on my z and was putting down alot of power and never had a problem with the stock haftshafts. I have a r200 with a nissan motorsports lsd and a 3.9 gear ratio and I don't plan on changing it in the future.
both the 300zx and the 280z diff is a long nose r200
-
The r200 is not hard at all. Just get a r200 diff, haftshafts, and mustache bar and bushings. Or you could do the 300zx diff with the cv axles but that isn't hard. Remember it's just nuts and bolts. the wiring isn't hard at all. There is a sticky on this rb forum with step by step instructions. How much do they want to do the wiring conversion?

Its really your call. I did my suspension years ago but now I want to get coil overs. I went with toyota front calipar upgrade and that was not much $$. I would do what would take the longest 1st. But thats me
What were you thinking of doing?

When I went with the rb20 I wasn't looking to make massive power (I have my 300zxtt for that). I wanted to make around 250-300hp whick is easy with the rb20. The datsuns weigh 2100-2700 lbs slap 300hp in it would make a very fun street car. I think anymore than that would get me into alot of trouble LOL.
