WANTED feedback on modifying front sump pans to rear sump pans
pat1 replied to pat1's topic in Nissan RB Forum
Thanks, I'm glad you like your pan I made you and thanks for the plug:2thumbs:. I'm trying to keep my price low but maybe not low enough for everyone. I had tons for pm's about buying a pan but it seems that some people are looking for a cheaper alternative. And I was wondering if this could fit there bill. This pan reversal would be for the rb20/25 as the 26 would be a bit harder to do. I don't have a ft sump pan to modify at this time of I would have done one already. I guess I'm looking for someone to be my guinea pig. If someone needs a pan built and is on a tight budget with there swap please let me know. -
Nistune is made for the rb engine. All you do is install a daughter board in the stock ecu and hook up a consult cable and you can tune. It uses the stock ecu wiring harness and a the stock sensors. All this for less then 500.00. Take a look at nistune.com

Can I get some opinions on buying an RB26 I found for sale?
pat1 replied to rturbo 930's topic in Nissan RB Forum
Pass, too much $$$ for what you get.. -
that rb kills that stroker. The stroker had a killer torque curve though. The rb is more fun but I love turbos

I took shop class in high school for 4 years I loved that class. I didn't learn anything but welding. I went to tech school at one of the best tech schools in GA. I thought I knew everything until I started working at a dealer. I leasrned more at the dealer in 3 months than in 3 years of tech school. I haven't dynoed it yet still messing around with it. Its a silver top with a rb25 turbo. The thing flys. I also have a 92 300zxtt with about 470-480 hp to the wheels.that thing scares me.

that's the truth. It sometimes took forever to start that s.o.b when it was cold. And thats when it was in the garage at a chilling 60 degrees LOL .
-
you can't go wrong at that price. I have a old lincoln 100 amp mig that I use from time to time. Works great on the small stuff.

before I put the rb in mine I had a 3.0 stroker with all the go fast stuff. I spent 4700.00 building that motor. I built it back in 1999 when the was not info on building it as you find today. I researched on building that motor for over a year. I can tell you this it's nice to have fuel injection now LOL. Just get in and turn the key and haul a$$

I had my 9 year old son helping me do my swap. Man, he schooled me. That boy had the biggest grin on his face when he was helping me. He just jumped right in. It was a great time. I want to do another swap.

Hey ShorkyfairladyZ My 280z had a manual trans from the start. Are you talking about the mount or the crossmember? I see the manual crossmembers on ebay for cheap all the time so that won't be a problem. I used the stock skyline trans mount (the auto and manual are the same) and modded the mount to the stock 280z crossmember. It was easy I had to drill 2 holes and grind the crossmember down a little. Then it dropped right in.

As many of you guys know that I have been building custom oil pans for the RB motors. I trying to make this swap less stressful for the guys who can't find a oil pan for the rb swaps. I'm thinking of a less costly mod by modifing the front sump pan to a rear swap pan. This mod would cost less than my custom pan. I was wondering if any of you guys would be interested in this. please give me some feedback thanks Patrick

That's a good idea. I will do that.

I had my motor and trans in and everything was done but the wiring and I wired it up and had it running in about maybe a hour or less. I had to do the alternator regulator also which was easy also. I hooked up 4 wires to the rb20 loom and had it running. Then I hooked up all the gauges and tach. I used all autometer gauges. The wiring was about 8-10 wires to have it all hooked up then another 5 for the NIStune consult cable. I had a problem with my coil packs and ignitor. I wired in a ignitor from a z32 and ditched the rb coil packs for a GM wasted spark coil pack and plug wires. Which made it easier to set the timing and was a lot less $$$ than a set of rb coil packs.

It fit great after I grinded in the crossmember a tiny bit. I used the stock trans mount but I noticed that the stock skyline was bigger and stronger so I made it fit. It worked out great.

here are some pics of the motor mounts and trans mounts. Also here is the wiring info I used for my swap This link helped me tons on the wiring http://wiki.r31skylineclub.com/index.php?title=Wiring_a_Silvertop_RB20DET_into_an_R31 there is the wiring diagram http://www.rbforums.org/pics/rb20.jpg this helped alittle with the wiring to the tach, neutral switch, and installing the consult cable of the NIStune http://rbforums.org/pdfs/rb20to95.pdf here is the workshop manuals http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/rb/ here is the pinout for the ecu http://www.allpinouts.org/index.php/1989_-_1994_Nissan_Skyline_RB20DET_ECU

don't get the one with the cut harness thats a whole different headache. Get a motor swap with a uncut harness. as for nistune it's AWESOME very easy to install and tune with. I got it from a NIStune dealer off this site. I soldered in the board myself and put the ecu in and had the car running in a few minutes. NIStune is worth every penny and more

I see the rb25 is about 800.00 more than the rb20 when I was looking at doing this swap. A couple years ago I looked into doing this swap and I had people telling me it would cost about 5 grand to do. I said heck no. So a couple years later I looked into it a bit more and found out by doing this swap that it can be done for far less than 5k. Which is great. I'm sure that there are people thinking the samething that this swap cost alot of cash but it doesn't.

I bought two engine swaps one came with a 5 spd trans and one with a auto trans. Both for 1300.00 local. The one with the 5spd trans had low compression so I pulled the trans and clutch stuff off and put it on the one with the auto trans and then I parted low compression engine swap out. Now that I think about it I have way less that 1500.00. I got the intercooler off eBay for 58.00. It was brand new 24x12x3 and I made my Intercooler pipes out of 2.5 in exhaust tubing that I got from summit. I bought a walbro fuel pump for 100.00 shipped. I did all the wiring myself. I got all the pinouts and the wiring diagrams and figured out all the wiring while I was flying to my wife's friends wedding. I did all the work myself. I have been working on cars for a living for over 15 years and I'm a Mazda Master tech /ASE Master tech so this stuff is a breeze for me.

5,000 dollors ,I did my entire swap for less than 1500.00 before I started adding stuff. Thats everything engine, trans intercooler and all the intercooler piping I mean everything. That's less than 1500.00 to have it running and driving. The wiring was a breeze. Guys don't let this swap stress you out. It's easy

no problem,I'm here to help out. Let me know if you have anymore questions.
