First of all it does need to be as think. The mazworks plates flex when you press in the clutch. If you want it thinner make it out of something stronger maybe 7075 or steel. Or make it go all the way around the transmission (see if you can sell them for 300 then hahaha) Second of all I will be making another run of these this fall they will be 200-300 dollars depending on final cost probably in the lower range. Everything will be CNC machined. Second I want to say that my design is AS ACCURATE AS POSSIBLE, it was drawn up using and VERY precise CMM machine. Any attempt to copy it will provide something that is not as accurate.. in fact I don't know of any other means to make the adapter that would be more accurate. 1_fast_Z can you enlighten us on how you made your adapter? I would like to see how you make the plate thinner and use SHCS's. here is the thread on my adaptors: http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=120007&highlight=z32+transmission

Gollum: I parted out everything in my engine bay. It was all listed and sold in the Hybridz Classified. I do however still have my Intercooler setup which is still for sale! 240ztt: What made me decide over the LS1? Well several things. 1.) Cost.. the initial motor purchase was much cheaper. I was having trouble finding a good LOW mileage ls1/t56 for less then 4500. 2.) Stock for stock they make the same power 3.) Both need forged internals to take boost 4.) Alot of people wont like this but Its a Nissan motor. I like the idea of having the new Z motor in the car, for me it was more the direction I wanted with the power plant 5.) I didn't wanna just have another LS1 swap. The VQ is something new and hasnt been done but a few times. Hopefully I can well document my progress and help others out. 6.) SOUND and the feel of a boosted VQ.. anybody who has ridden in a boosted 350z knows what Im talking about Mrpratt: The weak link is the rods as we have mentioned before so different setups will have different torque curves which will blow the motor "easier". From what I have seen NO kit can put make more then 380hp RELIABLY on the VQ... a lot of guys slap on the Vortec kit and run 420hp and it doesn't last to long... when I go turbo, it will be getting forged rods and pistons. Then 600hp is easily within reach. Bubbles: Shariff is definitly good and has done some great things with the VQ I'm hoping to work with him on internal work. My plan for the car is too make 500-600hp RELIABLY. Interesting note on Shariff, I dunno if many people remember my 260z wreck... but Shariff was the one in the front that wrecked first LOL. That car is the same one he has now. Anyway Im getting excited I have two more weeks of summer class and then I am going to be getting a good start on the swap.. Ill keep everyone updated.

Turbo Honda Potato Powered Pants or Disco Lemonade?

I believe me and Garret had the same problem happen to us. After SEZ I couldn't shift into 4th at high rpms under full load (26psi). I have to kinda wait and then shift if that makes any sense. Didn't have any trouble driving around etc just under full load shifting fast. Its always the 3rd-4th syncro that goes. Anyway we were both running 26psi and drag radials so there was obviously a good bit of abuse there. I guess one way to look at it is the stock transmission will simply blow under load at 20+psi, and the only thing happening to the z32 trannys is the syncros. And these were junkyard trannys to sooo condition wasn't known.

BRAAP: I know that the post 96 JDM transmissions have a much stronger syncro design. I cant say as far as the gearing goes. I don't think there are any external changes as they bolt up in to the USDM cars . One of the guys in my local Z club is putting down 758hp through a JDM unit without any problems so far on 255 MT's... he blew several 3rd gear syncros in the USDM transmissions before switching. Anyway hopefully somebody with some more concrete information will chime in. Ad btw I dont think the syncros are too big of an issue unless you are planning on drag racings and power shifting.

The only difference though that I know of is the starter location. They changed it on the turbo version to give the turbos more clearance. Me and Garret choose to run N/A transmissions for several reasons. 1.) They are cheaper, since the turbo guys cant run them. 2.) They haven't been as abused (in most cases) since they have been behind a NA motor Now the Z32 transmissions are strong and MUCH better then the factory 5 speed. You aren't going to shear the teeth off the gears but the USDM transmissions have weak syncros. IF you want a bullet proof Z32 swap you need to get one from a post 96 300zxtt from japan! ** I have a Z32 transmission adapter and a N/A 300zx transmission that I would consider selling if you are interested.

Hey Guys, Torynich - Just cut and sand and your good to go! ----------------------------------------------------------------------- !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Just wanted to remind everybody that I am selling kits for the installation of the ZG's. Information is located in the "Group Buy" forum. Also I wanted to add to this thread something about the installation of the flairs:The nutserts used in the rear must be installed properly.. I did not do this in my ZG install writeup as I didn't have the tool to do so. Most places I found sold expensive pneumatic installers ( about 100 bucks) so I just drilled a slightly smaller hole and pressed them in and then tack welded them. Nutserts are made to be put in the hole and then compressed to make then permanently installed without any welding. Here is a picture is a properly installed nutsert: Pegasus Racing sells a small easy to use tool that works great for this. I just got one to test it out. It is basically just a hallow nut with a serrated bottom. You hold the nut and tighten the bolt down through the center and it pulls the back of the nutsert up crushing it into the hole. I highly recommend that you purchase a tool to install the nutserts. They are 10 dollars plus shipping from Pegasus... they come with a 1/4-28 bolt which needs to be swapped to a 1/4-20. OTM that guy at Zdayz was probably Shariff(sp?) of Forged Performance, if you are talking of hte black car from last year. The motor in that car was completely built. I believe at the time he was putting down 680hp and now has over 800. I will be using it stock with stock internals for a good while...but when there time comes there is definatly plenty of aftermarket support.
-
I'm excited about getting started. Although it will be a month or so since I'm still in school for the summer. I think the biggest job to tackle is going to be the EMS and wiring since its all connected to the key etc. I will more then likely end up ditching everything and running stand alone. These motors have notoriously weak rods and with throw a rod if you push them much over 400 hp for long. Built of course the sky is the limit. My buddies 350z is putting down 550hp and she drives just as smooth as stock but pulls like crazy. But for now with 300hp stock she should be fun and have great drivability for a while that along with the beautiful VQ sound.
-
Well I finally decided on a power plant. Found the motor locally with 400 miles on it! The car was wrecked on a test drive. Its a Vq35de from a 2004 350Z. The plan right now is to get her in and running NA and de-bug her and boost it down the road. Anyway hope you enjoy

Can I join the contest? -
335 coupe is my realistic dream car right now... they are straight up sexy. Im not a fan of the sedan but the coupes are RIGHT. With mods the turbo six with stomp the new m3 I believe. Hopefully they will be cheaper by the time I get out of college Liking the one too!

Go drive one... everything else will feel cheaply built. The image... eh well maybe a while ago but now seems like there are as many bmws on the road as hondas. I see a few around every corner thats why I wanted to change to an S4 because I wanted something somewhat unique. But I like driving my bimmer too much.. Im prolly just gonna mod it on down the road to make it more my own.
-
Part it out... you will get alot more then selling it complete
-
btw i looked at S4's for a LOOOONNNNGGGG time i really really wanted one. but when I heard all the maintence nightmares it was just plain scary. Enough for me to stay far away from them. I think an S4 is a good project/race car if you have another car to drive. I was looking at a car at a local dealership they wanted 11,500 for this rather nice S4 chipped with exhaust. I was going to buy it when i took it for a test drive the intake boot popped off and they wouldnt fix it for me till monday since it was the weekend and the service people were so i decided to wait. In the mean time I found the old registration in the car and gave the previous owner a call. He had bought the car 7 months previously for 15,000. After he bought it the turbos went out along with the transmission....I believe he said he ended up with about a 5,000 dollar bill to get that fixed. Late on down the road he took it to get inspected and found out that the o2's and cat's needed replacing. When he took it in for that they wanted 3,000 for factory cats and o2's with labor. He said ♥♥♥♥ it and took it for a trade in on a new VW....... He traded it in for 9,000 dollars.

BMW 3 series... perhaps a 323CI.. or spent a little more and get a 330Ci. Thats what I drive as a DD and I love it. I have never had any maintence issues with my BMW's (knock on wood). The coupe sport models handle awesome and are alot of fun to drive while still being super quite and smooth. My last 3 series had over 240K on it.. here is my 330Ci she has 70K on her...

I would have sold them the key!
