  1. oh and the FSM: http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=134941
  2. Have you got teh replacement rubber for this? I need to do mine in the next year or so - it's getting damn old looking... What products would you recommend for removal/re-gluing of new stuff?
  3. so wait....let me understand this: My 1980 280 ZX (non turbo) has 170 HP at the crank and 130 at the wheels - is that right?
  4. You have a plate in the car that says it has 170 HP? I'm pretty sure the 79-80 non turbos were all in the 130 HP range until the Turbo came along in 81?
  5. What did that valve's clearance end up being (the one you could not adjust)? I did an adjustment on mine and had to do it 2 more times before it felt right and didn't clatter. I found that erring on the side of "too tight" on the gaps was better than "too wide". But I'll let a real Z expert weigh in on this - I've very much to learn
  6. I had this for a while right after I replaced my clutch master cylinder. Went away after a few hundred miles. I recently got under the dash and put some multi purpose oil on all the clutch pedal mechanicals...seemed to help. You can play with the pedal assembly to adjust the amount of play too - you might want to take out the panel, get a flashlight and get under there to poke around and see what can be done
  7. Yeah - I wanted to *add* the gap Ah well, such is the nature of forums anyway.
  8. hey that's my car!! (without T tops)
  9. Mine's been off since the start of this thread, with no issues at all.
  10. Thanks again! I don't think it's that on mine - I get the same symptoms, regardless of the gas being engaged or not - I can't tie to to the car's other behaviors - it's totally random. I'll check the knob/switch and see.... Cheers!
  11. Thanks - I think that will be my next step (taking out switch and examining). This worked with my faulty hazard signal switch - just sanded off the corrosion and it worked like new! I'll check it out. The alternator was replaced a couple months ago and this happened before and after that so I don't think that's part of it - but thanks for the idea! I'll let you guys know what the switch disassembly yields.... Phil
  12. Hi guys, I think I had asked this in another thread but it got overlooked so I'm starting a new one on the topic. My car, when I have the climate control on (the fan is switched on - either low, or medium setting), sometimes sends the interior blower fans into a tizzy at random. It happens, like I said at random, and I can't tie it to one action on my part (putting the gas on, cold engine, etc) - it just happens when it happens. It's as if the blower fan is cranked up to 100% at random for a few seconds, then goes back to the fan setting that I had it at. This does not happen when the fan is turned OFF completely - just when it's on - at any level. Has anyone had this happen? Is it worrisome? Am I about to short something out? Please let me know if you've seen it and dealt with it? Thanks!
  13. yeah try the TPS. I got water in there and it caused a faulty reading, putting the car in "limp mode" and not allowing it to rev much higher than 1000 RPM. GL
  14. that's a lot of bugs on the window at the end
  15. Just an update for anyone checking this (great write up BTW!).... I dismantled my steering wheel assembly to see if I could follow this DIY and fix my non working hazard lights on the 1980 280ZX I own. I took out the switch from the steering wheel assembly and took it apart. looked at the cooper connectors/pickups (whatever they are called) and noticed some corrosion there. Using very fine sandpaper, I filed the contacts to shine again, and blew everything dry. Put it back together and TADA....it all works
  16. Yeah there are a few other guys pushing 1000 HP with those kits - there's a company in Oregon that offers a kit for the S54 engine: www.horsepowerfreaks.com...pretty nuts. That engine is pretty crazy in stock form (333 HP). My car came with a tuning upgrade from Dinan (chip, intake, exhaust) and puts out 355...but the car is a pig unfortunately with the convertible top and extra reinforcements underneath. Would be great to drop it into a Z And it's not even a V8!
  17. Hey at least I didn't say "flux capacitor" - take it easy on me
  18. Wow - thanks guys - Steve, that's some great background - thank you! Maybe I'll take it off for a while and search for a replacement over the next year or so. LOVE this forum!
  19. I've been outed as a n00b!! Thanks both of you for letting me know what this is for. the mounting bracket (plastic crap) was already broken so I was hoping I could just "lose" this...but I guess I'll have to fab something up to make it mount back on. "ignition coils".....pshaw!! Thanks for the good natured ribbing - you guys are so much nice than the BMW forums for dumb questions like this - much appreciated! Phil
  20. Hi guys, When I got my 280ZX the owner pointed out this blower and said it was to keep the ignition coils cool under load. When I did a recent valve adjustment, I took it off. I noticed that there was no air coming out of the blower while the engine was running. Is this thing even needed - it hasn't been doing anything it seems...and it's ugly IMHO. Do I need it? This is what I'm talking about (not my car - grabbed this off ebay):
  21. How do you know if your 22, 23 or 24mm for the bushings on the control arms for a 280ZX? It offered me all 3 options when i checked out the site...
  22. What pick n pull is this Gollum? Those are my colors
  23. bump for a good Q....I'm guessing metal on metal can't be good
