  2. I have no idea who you're talking about nor what he/she did to get banned. I will say this. The admins on HZ own this house and they are giving us privileges to visit here. If you don't want to get banned NEVER back-talk one. Think about it. If someone you don't even know came to your house and argued with you... wouldn't you kick them out? I'm defending no one here. It's just the way things work.

That said... I've made my share of mistakes. And I'm still here.

Ok Ill bite, Mike your name says banned but your still posting...doesn't anyone but me see that or am I missing something....WTH??:weird:

    Oh dang..ok. I didnt read the last few posts..never mind.....Im a blonde..

  3. Home Depot WARNING

Be careful @ Home Depot. Just a "heads up" for you

guys, I know you are regulars at Home Depot. Over the

last months I became a victim of a clever scam while

out shopping. Simply going out to get supplies has

turned out to be quite traumatic. Don't be naive

enough to think it couldn't happen to you!!!

Here's how the scam works: Two seriously good-looking

20-21 year-old girls come over to your car as you are

packing your shopping into the trunk. They both start

wiping your windshield with a rag and Windex, with

their breasts almost falling out of their skimpy

T-shirts. It is impossible not to look.

When you thank them and offer them a tip, they say

"No" and instead ask you for a ride to another Home

Depot or Lowe's. You agree and they get in the back

seat. On the way, they start having sex with each

other. Then one of them climbs over into the front

seat and performs oral sex on you, while the other one

    steals your wallet.

I had my wallet stolen January 4th, 9th, 10th, twice

    on the 15th, 17th, 20th, & 24th. Also Feberuary 2nd,

3rd , twice on the 7th, three times just yesterday and

very likely again this upcoming week. So be very careful! :D

  4. ASSuming you're only .030 over since you said you might go .040 over with the 4" stroke (and 4.124" bore) you will have a 427.4 ci engine. This is as close as I could get DD with the files I had. I'm too lazy to put in head flow and cam specs. I used the Dart Pro 310cc heads.

  5. OK... here is where Im at so far...this should be a better list:

    Heads - Performer(EDL 60499 with 100CC Chambers)

Performer -Torker II Intake Single PLain 2500-6500 RPM RANGE

    Pistons - KB361020-8 (4.145 Bore -17 CC Dome) Floaters

    Rings - Sealed Power 5/64-5/64-3/16 SLP-E-243K020

Rods - mine stock 6.135 length

    Crank - SCAT SCA910454 4 inch stroke 454 Crank

Bearings - Clevite H series CLE MS829H 2 Piece rear seal

1 3/4 Block Huggers Dual exhaust (already have)

Head Gasket FEL 8180PT-2 .039 Crushed 4.370 bore

    CAM - Flat Tappet XE284H 2300-6500 RPM Range .574/.578 Lift 240/246 @.50 110 Lobe 284/296

With the above I come up with a .059 Quench, 10:1 to 1 CPR, 431 Cubic inches, assuming piston to deck clearance of .020. Do you know what stock clearance on a 396 is?

Grumpy does this make more sense? HP estimates? This will give me about a 10:1 to 1 CPR

  7. Grumpy what about these heads? And why does it say they have 9.2 compression ratio with flat tops? Im confused. If I go with these heads, 454 crank, my rods, .060 over bore, I get around 10 to 1 on the calculator. So when I order pistons I would buy pistons for a 454 crank with a rod length of 6.135 and tell them its an overbore of .060 on a 396 with Combustion Chambers of 100CC right? Man this is more confusing than the SBC setups. Will the pistons work with semi open chambers? Am I on the right track?

    Performer High-Compression 454-O

Designed for 396, 427 & 454 (7.4L) c.i.d. engines, these 100cc semi-open chamber heads feature a 1-1/2° rolled over (angle milled) design that improves intake port alignment and provides a smaller combustion chamber without shrouding the valves. The 100cc combustion chambers are coupled with the same size valves and ports as the #60459 Performer RPM heads, producing 9.2:1 compression with flat-top pistons for an outstanding high performance street head. When used on 1987-up TBI equipped 7.4L dished piston motors they produce an 8.8:1 compression ratio and made over 450 ft/lbs. torque when combined with our Multi-Point EFI System. The heads also feature an exhaust crossover passage for 50-state emission legal status. Available assembled with high quality components: one piece stainless steel, 2.19" intake and 1.88" exhaust valves: ARP 7/16" diameter rocker studs, bronze guides and ductile iron seats with 3-angle valve job. Features stock port locations, 9/16" deck thickness and heli-coils in the rocker stud and exhaust bolt holes. Mark IV rocker arms and valvetrain parts required. See chart for more specs.

  8. Hey Mike! Whats up buddy! Well yeah the 396 has some work to be done. Its mainly a show car but damn, when people on the street come up to me and comment on it they always say MAN I BET THAT CAR CAN HAUL SOME BUTT with that big block in there!!!! I jsut say to myself "damn I hope they dont ask me to race or anything ...hahaha. Then I go get my black 240:mrgreen: Anyways yes it should be just as strong or stronger than my 240 so I need to fix it before I go any further on the 240. I forgot that the combustion chambers mainly determined the Compression ratio as far as what pistons you have in there. Unfortunately there are flat tops in there right now with the stock iron heads. Whew!!! its slow. So looks like I may have to change out the pistons after all. Hell if I have to do that then I might as well just bore it up 40 over for a 404. Crap, thatll be another 6 or 7 hundreds bucks plus machine work....but at least Ill have a piece of mind and theres nothing wrong with high 11s for a daily cruiser I guess!

Im really set on a 434 short block for the next build for the 240. I still have alot time to ponder since Ill be in Japan for another 3 years or so...my storage is filling up with so many goodies....

  9. Thanks Grumpy. Well that explains the NO POWER on current setup...ran like 16s in the quarter at 87 or 88 MPH I think. Hmmm maybe this would be better:

I just want to aVOID TEARING DOWN THE BOTTOM END IF IT CAN BE HELPED... sorry CAPS locked..

  10. Can anyone run this in Desktop? Im gonna upgrade my 396 since its kinda slow at the track. Heres what I am going to get:

AFR 305 Heads 119 CCs. 2500-6800 RPM RANGE APPROX 10 to 1 Compression

Performer Torker II Intake Single PLain 2500-6500 RPM RANGE

1 3/4 Block Huggers Dual exhaust (already have)

Pistons are forged flat tops and I dont remember the relief CCs. 3.75 Stroke standard 396 bore (no over boring)

COMP XR288HR CAM .521/.540 LIFT 288/294 Duration 110 Lobe sep. 2500-6000 RPM Range.

    Hydraulic Lifters RETRO FIT

    Roller ROCKERS aluminum

    I will probably run a 750DP Holley or 850DP.

I currently have stock heads and Comp 265 Flat tappet cam = NO POWER...lol. It has to at least be as fast as it looks in my opinion. Can anyone chime in with opinions on the above build. I am not changing the bottom end, only cam, lifters and heads. I would like to see at least 12s out of this show car...I also run the T56 six Speed and will need to change the cluth to a stiffer setup as well.

Wholly crap Big Blocks aint cheap. This stuff here alone will run me about $4000 bones...dammit and I have two Zs....

    Thanks in advance...

  11. How in the world was it we never crossed paths? My 73 looks a lot like that to this day. My flares were done when Roger Puffer (400MMS Kadena AFB) had the car on Okinawa in 81 (Done at AY-Body outside KAB Gate 4 on Rte 58 next to the Bimbo Bakery). I bought it off him when hard times hit (Divorce) and he needed money fast. I painted it Black, Added the G-Nose, as well as Triple Mikuini 44's Blown Through with a T-Series Turbo. Gone when I got the car was Rogers neat addition of Corvette Popup headlights in the Hood, with Glased over Nacelles! Shame, it was some nice work by A-Y...

I rotated stateside in 89, and brought the car with me. And was down at Carlsbad regularly from about mid-91 till about a year before they shut the gates. Regularly is at least once a month in my book...given my travel schedule! I may have seen your car around The Rock...there is something familiar about it...

Not wanting to threadjack, just got shocked when I saw the car photos and then read the background! Just amazed how many Oki-Car guys there are around here! LOL

Tony, wholly crap! You knew Roger Puffer? Wasnt he the bodybuilder, Clark Kent looking guy with the I think Philipino wife (hot)??? I knew him well as I was into powerlifting at that time and was a regular at Risner and talked to him everyday. I think he retired to Florida? I have bound to have seen you around. Oh and molded flares were the way to go then...haha.

  12. hello there, im almost finished with my swap, 280z, fresh .040 over mid 70's sbc, 8.5;1 compression, herbert torque cam, weiend X-cerator single plane intake manifold, TCI th-350, summit 2k stall converter, mallory dizzy and 6AL box, march serp. underdrive pulleys, alum driveshaft, stock rear end, 265 tire....

I really have no idea what to expect and/or if my combo of parts is even going to work...

    any thoughts?

    andy

Hmmm I dont want to sound negative here but here is my 2 cents worth from experience. I dont know what your lift and cam specs are but I do know that with the single plane intake, a 2000 stall and 8 to 1 compression it will probably be a dog off the line. The single best improvement I can see you making is simply replacing the intake to a dual plane. This should pickup your lower end quit a bit. Ofcourse then a cam change may be in order as well as converter. I picked up 5 tenths just going from a 2800 stall to a 3500 stall on my latest build. My first build I went from a 14.3 to a 13.7 in the quarter with stock heads just by changing the cam. I was running a Comp 292 magnum and changed to a Comp 262 flat tappet. Made a big differece. As 383 said matching components is the most important thing when looking for max performance. I would say get all your specs together and start playing with them in Dyno 2000 or something similiar to get the best bang for what your working with.

  13. I think the bolts look kinda tackey. I think its the only flare with that particular shape so people buy it, but it has the holes which they dont like..

Corzette- Thats a great looking 2+2. Im having to save my money to finish the body work on my 2+2 and Im really debating getting some flares. Me and my dad had thought about filling in the holes and molding the ZG flares in but the flares are pretty spendy. Do you still have this car?

I know what ya mean. No I sold that car before I went to desert Shield/Storm back in 1990. I really enjoyed it as I brought it back from Okinawa in 1986. I had alot of fun with the right hand drive. In and Out burger was fun because I didnt have to slide across the seat to get my food!

That engine was an L28 bored to 2.9 with 44MM Solex Carbs and Headers. Ran 14.5 at 92 or 93 MPH if memory serves me correctly. Ran out at Carlsbad all the time in Cali back then. Had a 5 speed in it. Was pretty fast for a NA 6. I rememebr beating a mustang at the track at one time...haha.

  14. haha terry awesome pic man. how far we've come....... :D

HaHA...I know! Sorta the clothing fashions...they always change over time. Oh I made a mistake on the 1/4 window louvers. Those came from a 280ZX Fairlady not a Supra... Yeah you outta seen my interior...it was much like that car we are talking about haha. The Japanese were really into lights, fur, and disco balls....ironically...so was I!!:) Sorry to change the subect. Glad I had some pics that helped!

    Out.........

  15. I search couldnt find any info on it... Im thinking of bolting it on with addhissives and then molding it in... if this has been done anyone have pics ? thanks

Answer is yes and yes. I did on my Fairlady I used to have back in the 80s. Look in these links...I have a few pics that might help you out.

I had the ZG flares, GNose, Supra louvers cut to fit the rear quarter windows, an old celica gas hatch louvers glassed into the the airholes behind the quarter windows, Skyline tail lights abd old RX7 rear spoiler cut into a three piece. I have different tastes today but it was the bomb in the 80s...haha.
