Where in Spring Valley are you guys? I just moved to Phoenix from there. My house was 908 Paraiso. I just sold it last month. Amazing that in 5 years there I never knew other HybidZ guys were so close. I would have invited you guys over. Brian

Guys, Anyone have an RB25det five speed available? I'm looking for one. Willing to swap for one of my RB30 blocks or pay cash. Please P.M. me if you have any info. Thanks Brian

My Buddy's Awesome Roadster Restoration..Pics
AKWIKZ replied to slownrusty's topic in Non Tech Board
Is it a real 67.5 2000? Without the dash, I can't tell what year it is exactly. It's definately pre '68 as it is a low windshield. If it is a 67.5 2000, that car should be worth a pretty good chunk of change as it's in awsome condition. I really do miss my Roadster. It was pretty wicked by the time I sold it. Absolutely terrified a lot of V8 muscle cars back in San Diego with it. Here is what she was shortly before I sold her. http://www.sdsefi.com/features/nov02fairlady.htm I actually did get the brake swap done. Correct parts for these cars are nearly impossible to get and when you can get them, they will cost you. Mine was a '67.5 1600 with no engine when I bought it. I first had a U20 2 liter, as in the pic, then an FJ20 with Solex carbs (absolutely amazing sound), and lastly the SR20det (first in North America no less). Roadster guys are a bit odd though. They had no problem with my car when it had the FJ in it, but once I put the SR in most considered it too far. I'll admit the seats and wheels were a bit over the top, but I was younger and it seemed like a good idea at the time (how many times have one of us said that by now?) Anyhow. A stock, mostly original Roadster with 15 inch Panasports is absolute perfection incarnate. Very cool cars. Brian -
Now I have some rod info. My supplier has custom sets of 4340 forged steel rods with ARP 2000 cap screws. He has had a couple of guys use these on an otherwise stock RB30 bottom end, balanced of course, and they have produced over 500hp at the wheels at 8000 rpm. $800 U.S before shipping. Probably another $60-$80 for most places in the U.S as these are coming from Australia. Just in case you guys are interested. Brian

Joel, I am not aware yet of any specific numbering system. ACL does not make any distinction other than the standard or race series. Question 2; I decided to bring in two for my own use. After crunching the numbers it made sense to bring in a few more. There appeared to be interest so I am giving people the opportunity. Question 3; My research has led me to believe that 7500 rpm is the edge with standard rods. While it does have quite a stroke, it is still a square motor. KA24's are routinely being revved to that and they are far under square. Forged rods are easily available though. My engine supplier actually stocks them. I just did not think anyone here would need to go that route, so I did not mention it. Seeing as how the stock RB26 has a redline of 8k, 7500 seems to be pretty good. Granted, a 26 could be built to easily spin higher, but my plans have always revolved around a broad usable power band. Question 4; Power. With an RB25 head, and decent T4 turbo, 450hp is relatively easy at 15 pounds of boost with 450 pound feet of torque. And this is on a home job build. Imagine a bit more tweaking and an RB26 head. Question 5; I can't directly respond to the timing belt comment. The ones I have ordered are the usual choice for everyone I have spoken with that has built one. I don't know how they can be any less durable as they are from the same company that manufactures O.E. replacement belts for any number of cars worldwide. Brian

Another update. I now have an account with ACL. Race series bearings for any RB are available, including the RB30. For anyone on HybridZ, you will get them at cost. $210 delivered to your door. (in the continental U.S.) This includes both main and rod bearings. Unfortunately, there is a delay on the RB30 bearings. I have ordered a set for myself and this was all they had on hand. I was told it could take up to 2 months to get them on special order. I may just go ahead and order a few sets now and keep them on hand. Brian

I have some more info to pass along. I have now worked out specs with Wiseco and can get forged pistons for these. They are custom order of course and take four weeks to get. First set is for the turbo guys. Flat top, 87mm overbore with a 9:1 C/R. The next is for anyone wanting to build an N/A motor. These are domed, also 87mm overbore, with a C/R of 11.5:1 . Either of these of course available in stock bore sizes if desired. If used in the overbore it will yield a 3.1 liter block. Either set is $800 delivered in the U.S. Brian

Thanks. I do not know if they are series 1 or 2 or even if they are factory turbo. It was of little issue after I learned a few things about the RB30. There is such a negligible difference that any possible delay associated with being overly selective was not worth it. On non turbo blocks, a hole could be tapped in to an oil passage to supply the turbo. Most people just go off of the oil pressure sensor hole. Other than that, the pistons differ between the two. Again, this is not really a big deal as most people will put new pistons in to change the C/R for the new head. I personally plan to build 2 RB30's. One will be a 3.1 twin turbo for my '71 Skyline. The other will be a high compression N/A 3.1 for the next car I'm working on importing; a '73 KGC110 Skyline. But that's another story entirely. Brian

I completely forgot to mention that each block will include a brand new, correct timing belt for the conversion as well. All that will be needed is to relocate one of the belt pulleys on the block. Other than that, it would be a standard RB rebuild. Brian

Well guys, it took a lot longer than I had expected, but I now have the RB30's on the way up. My friend ended up having problems so I went with another supplier. They will be in Long Beach in approximately 6 weeks. I have at least 2, and possibly 3 available right now. I'm posting it here first. They are $1200 each. Any buyers are welcome to meet me in Long Beach when the shipment arrives to pick up their motor. Otherwise, they will be brought back to Phoenix and available for pick up here or shipped at the buyers expense. I also have access to RB25 turbo trannys and RB25 or RB26 heads. Let me know if you have any questions. Brian

I don't know how old it can be, because they had not sold the land until a year ago. And I actually went over to their new location, it's just a mile away, and they have not moved anything yet. They said they will have the cars they are keeping moved over there in 6 months. While they may have crushed something earlier, I got it straight from one of the main guys there that they did not start the major crushing until just a few weeks back. I fail to see how it can be old news. Especially since, as far as I could see, no one here had actually gone to the yard to see what was happening. I even did a search of posts and came up with nothing. Plenty of people claimed to have called and spoken with them, but as far as I'm concerned, that is just second hand info. That is why I went out there, to see things in person. There are still cars in the yard, but they are European and will be gone within the next month. Brian

If wanton destruction with an unhappy ending makes you cry, turn away now. If not, you have been warned. A few months back we had a discussion about the Hidden Valley junkyard in Az. Well, I have just gone there and am sorry to report that the rumors are all true. They are in fact moving and only taking the 50's and 60's American cars. Here is the really bad part, ALL of the Dastuns have been crushed. The guy even explained to me how just last week they crushed two Roadsters and a Fairlady Z. A freaking Fairlady Z! I asked him for clarification. "You mean a Roadster, right?" "No, a right hand drive Z. Pretty complete too." he explained. He went on to tell me that I was about 2 weeks too late. They managed to crush all of the Datsuns in just one week. I might have been able to get something had I been a bit earlier. I am trying my best not to let my imagination get away with me, but I can't help but wonder what condition that car was in. No matter what, the situation sucks. Brian

Actually, that car was only on e-bay once. There have been two others, mine being one of them. And yes, that one is now in the Bay area. The owner tells me he thinks it will be running around again in a few months. Brian

Brad, I would like to speak with you about your car. If you have the time, please give me a call. 619-807-1590. Thanks Brian

I'm sorry, but that is funny. The VG30 is as bullet proof as most Nissan engines. This same engine is in my '91 Hardbody P/U and I have 310k miles on it. And I beat the living crap out of it daily. Aside from neglecting the timing belt and having it snap (which I have done) you would practically need to throw a grenade into the engine bay to kill it. I was very lucky not to have bent any valves when my belt snapped. Other than that there is little to worry about. And these motors are actually fairly easy to work on. They are nothing like the later VG30de in that regard. Brian

No, the Skyline was not sold. I did however sell the engine. I have decided to just put a stock RB26 in it after I get situated in Phoenix. Now, that does not mean I am not open to any good offers on the car itself. If someone came up with good money before I move I would seriously consider it. Brian

Guys, I realize this is not the classifieds area but I did not really see any place to put it otherwise. I am moving to Arizona at the end of the month and need to sell a few things. One of which is a Hobart TIG welder. The thing is huge and complete. I'd be happy to give any relevant info if someone wants numbers off of it. $900 obo. The next is a car trailer. It is a twin axle tilt bed car hauler. Elec brakes, new tires, pretty light. You simply unlock a bolt on the front and the bed tilts back. You drive on and as you go up the bed folds flat. It's pretty cool. $900 obo. I would normally offer pics, but my house was recently robbed and they took all the cameras and computers. I just recently got a computer again. If you guys want to look at my old posts of when I picked up my Skyline from the port back in '04, that is the trailer. I'll also have a bunch of random crap that buyers of either of these items are welcome to. Otherwise I'll make a dump run. My house sold much more quickly than I had planned, and I need to be out by April 23rd. I'm in San Diego. Brian

Unfortunately, even if you had the crank, it would not do you any good. The RB30 uses a block that is 1 inch taller than the others. If you were to use the crank in a shorter block, you would have extreme rod angles that would not handle any kind of power. Not to mention that you would have pistons that stuck out the top of the block. Brian

I have put my RB26 up for sale on e-bay. Here is the link; http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8045768130 Brian

They are not available from Nissan anymore, but can still be found new from some of our vendors. One place that will most likely have what you are looking for is Too Intense Restorations. They are unreasonably expensive in my opinion, but if you really need a part, they might be your best bet. Next would be Charlie at Zedd Findings. He is a good guy with fair prices. I actually bought the last set of brand new Euro Tail lights from him about four years back. Got them for $365 delivered. You could also check on e-bay here. We have pretty good quality used parts show up frequently. Brian

Some of you may remember I mentioned doing a photo shoot for a Japanese magazine a little while back, well, I finally received my copies today. The magazine is called "Lightening" and here are pictures of my spread. Please excuse the fact that I used a camera and not a scanner. I'm pretty excited, so let me know what you guys think. Brian
