  1. Thats the positive reniforcement I was looking for, I was just seeing as though some believe it will spool too late. But the volvo 4cylinder spools it soon enough so Im sure the l28et wouldnt have a prob. Most likely will be using a hy35 with the integral gate welded shut with a tial 38mm. What I like about them, they just begin to get efficient at 14psi, at 18-25 they really begin to shine! So Im might as well be a test muel and see how well it works, Ill let you guys know... John
  2. Alright guys for the past year or so Ive been contemplating the use of a holset hx35 or hy35. As they will bolt to the stock l28et manifold. I was planning on running a hy35, welding the integral wastegate shut and running a tial 38mm unit. Now I have a friend who is running this exact same setup on his 2.3l volvo. However he has some port port work, and a custom grind cam yet on the 2.3 he is spooling 21psi by 3.4-3.5k. My question, would a l28et with stock cam, and head spool around the same range, and would this give me a very usable power band. I think it would be comparable to using a T61 turbo. So anybody out there using one chime in and let me know how your power band was. Now the reason for this post is I would like to get some info on this as these turbos can be had cheap, and with a little bit of work could make some amazing power on the l series motor. Thanks, John
  3. Man and you were the first person I thought I could have sold my T-5 too, lol. Ive decided to use the N/A tranny, the t-5 was nice when it was in the zx(60k miles) but I think after repeated beatings Id start having problems, so Ill just throw the n/a tranny in, that way it wont be so hard to find a replacement if it blows. Thanks for the input guys, John
  4. Wow, strong opionion there, I think Im going to use the nissan trans for ease of me finishing the project, and keep the bw around as a backup incase I blow the nissan trans.
  5. Well guys the time has come for me to decide which tranny I should use, I have a 81' 280zx 5spd with 54k on it. And I also have a 83' borg warner t-5 with 68k on it. I want to know if anyone thinks its worth the extra effort to have a driveshaft made, and modify the trans mount to use the t-5 trans, or should I just throw the 81' trans in. Also which trans is stronger, Ive heard stories of Borg warner trans going but not so many for the Nissans, so whats your take? Thanks, John
  6. Cant help it, its all the dust, damn engine work should not be done in a body shop.
  7. http://www.pbase.com/blue76zcar/image/38652567 I did a little cleaning, removed all the emmissions crap, ground it down and pinted it with some wrinkle finish.
  8. Thanks guys, Ive been playing with these saabs alot lately, taking a little break from the Z. But I hope to be on the Z this weekend if Im not installing my new transmission in my saab. Suprisingly these saabs can be made pretty quick, specially at highway speeds. Hope you enjoyed, John
  9. A little vid of what a 4door saab can do, http://album.hybridz.org/showphoto.php?photo=1411&sort=1&cat=509&page=1 Some pics, http://www.pbase.com/blue76zcar/image/39680958 http://www.pbase.com/blue76zcar/image/39680983 http://www.pbase.com/blue76zcar/image/39681062

  11. Yeah Ill definitely get to know the guy better, It would be awesome to pit for a team. The guy that owned the shop I visited wasn't there as my Friend is good friends with him and has access to the shop. But he seems to be pretty active in vintage racing. Ill have to meet him.
  12. Yeah the car I looked at was Blaha's. I dont know him but my friend did. I thought it was wierd that it had the fuel cell mounted in the passenger area. The car had very few hours on it too so I knew it didnt have much time on the track. But it is a nice car. The guy that owns the shop my buddy took me too painted Blaha's car and Seitz's. I guess the guy does alot of body work for the road race guys, he just had in an older Alfa that looked killer.
  13. Anybody hear of them. I went over to a shop where my friend is working on his mustang, and the owner of the shop has a 71' 240z that is a BRE replica. My friend said the owner belongs to Yard Bird racing. Any body ever hear of the car. It looked to be a pretty good performer.
  14. Hey guys, Im thinking on how I can set up the braking system on my Z, as Im putting in all new lines. Can I run a setup like this. A 50/50 split between the front left and front right, a 50/50 split between the right rear and left rear, and then run a willwood proportioning valve to adjust bias front to rear? TIA, any help would be appreciated. John
  15. wow, that guy can really make his welds flow.......jesus and I thought my welding was bad.
  16. Unibody damage, or frame damage doesn't mean the car isnt fixable. My father owns a body shop and you'd be suprised at what we can bring back to life. As of now me and my dad are working on a project saab. Ill link up some pics. http://www.pbase.com/blue76zcar/inbox look at the one with Viggen in the title. That is actually one of the easier cars we've had in the shop. I can say that that corvette is definitely fixable, along with the murcielago.
  17. Yeah those wheels would look very nice on your car. I think with the blacked out trim and the gunmetal centers on the rims they would go good together.
  18. All is what we use in our shop are SATA guns. We've been happy with them used them for ages too.
  19. This post is making me so jealous. I want an RB too, lookin good guys, post lots of pics, these are gonna be some badass cars.
  20. I think its something every car nut has. Even though my Z isnt near done. Ive had a few saabs that Ive done some basic mods to, they feel fast for a while, but then after a few weeks, there just not fast enough anymore.
  21. Arent you supposed to be easy on motors when your breaking them in? Ah hell I would have done the same thing, lookin good Mikey.
  22. I think I would see if there are any good BMW forums, escially for older models, and post it for sale there. Then I would go ebay, with a reserve, then the local classifieds. But from what Ive seen cars always go for more when you post them on an enthusiast board rather than ebay.
  23. I too have seen that pic and wondered whos Z it was.
