CX Racing kit LY6 TR6060 build
trackzpeed replied to crapforum's topic in Gen III & IV Chevy V8Z Tech Board
Very inventive..... By its looks, that's is the stock 240Z tank, yes? I would like to use my stock tank out of my 72 Z but I am not sure it can be done without spendy modifications and my "searches" have not turned much solid info just yet. Your idea is great to keep pump, filter costs down since I can steal it off my donor car. I have the 98 Z28 donor with a metal tank so I don't want to pay the weight penalty for that swap..... If anyone knows, I'd like to know the diff between the stock 240 metal tank weight and the z28 tank weight, I may be wrong and there is not much of weight penalty after all. Summit has some pretty cheap cells so that option is on the table too... To many choices lol Great to follow your build. My Z motor is getting pulled today and my swap kit ordered Monday -

Great progress ! Are using the stock radiator ? Havve you tried out the figment of the exhaust yet? I need to get my arse in gear. I sold my Z motor this past week and will deliver it this coming weekend. Time to put or shut up for me..... Need to make a swap kit decision and get er done. Thanks for updates as always. -

Good info thanks. I've got the T56...so I don't believe I will run into the height problem??? I read on the a hybrid thread that shaft angles are pretty critical to reduce/control vibrations. You may want to get the solved before you need to do it twice... Thanks for updates. -

Nice, thanks for the input. What tranny are you using and with what mount? -

As the research continues.... The impressive part about the JCI kit is the additional strength of the motor mounts as they tie into the frame rails via support plates...... I need to get in gear and post up my Z stuff for sale to generate some cash and start walking this talk. Given how hard I drive my stuff the JCI kit looks best for personal application as of now. Durability feedback from other kit users would be great for this "LS to Z mount info thread" as the JCI is pretty well documented. Thanks hybrid. -

Any concerns about the Z cross member carrying the entire load through the motor mounts?. The cx kit has gained more of my interest with your build (I really like the idea of keeping my LS1 low mount alternator and kit exhaust already completed) and parts quality reports you have given but I drive the piss out of my stuff on the track and have had second thoughts on the mounts ( how they tie into the Z, not the mounts themselves). Keep up the great work and thanks again for the updates. Enjoying your build. -

Hope they fit..... I tried a pair years ago to no avai as the shoulder wing hit the door panel. I'm running sparco seats now. Good luck with seats and the rest of your build. -
LS1 240 mounts (facts not opinion???)
trackzpeed replied to trackzpeed's topic in Gen III & IV Chevy V8Z Tech Board
Apparently I was wrong. The dingo mounts will require a high mount alternator however a hybrid member (crapforum) has discovered in his cx build that the low mount alternator will have room to clear..... -
Inspiring... two LSZ's good problem to have.

trackzpeed replied to crapforum's topic in Gen III & IV Chevy V8Z Tech Board
nice find... hope that works out. The low mount alternator (Camaro) clears the stock mount on JCI kit...... I was under the impression the CX kit would need a high mount set-up (I've sourced a good and cheap fix for that if needed) and I know this is the case for the Dingo mounts. Thanks again for updates, you are blazing a new trail with the CX kit. -

When I get enough done to make it interesting I plan a complete build log / thread. The original intent of this thread was to dissect the current kits on the market and attempt to "know" what works with what...... Not just information for my sake but for the hybrid community. I'm still undecided as there are pros and cons to each kit..... My decision changes daily. My first love is racing not building and fabricating so I'm trying to keep at least one of the cars used (Z28 & Z) intact to minimize lost time racing. I can pull the motor and trans for the Z28 and part out the rest for quicker and increased cas flow but then the project will stall until the season is over for the swap. I would rather take my time and get the Z done/prepped right as the Z is my first passion and will remain in the stable for years to come. The plan is a very track ready streetable car that goes like hell and eventually looks even better. When all is said and done my primary hope for this thread is to become a sticky of one stop information on all of the LS1 Z kits to date. Thanks again gentlemen for your insight, participation, and patience in the process. Jim (Trackzpeed), 1972 240Z LS1 T 56 -

Thanks for the encouragement..... I have started tearing down the Z and will have it prepped out complete with a repaint of the engine bay. Bought a 98 ls1 t56 z28 complete that I will campaign for the autoX season until the z bay is ready for parts and swap. Lots of education prior to the swap........ I used up a lot of cash buying the z28 so I'm selling off z parts along the way to fund a swap kit. While I'm selling and saving I'm researching and deciding which kit to ultimately use. I have a crime scene style white board set up to plan my attack. By the way. The steering wheel you sold me looks great. -

Continuing to research available mounts and info...... Dingo and cxr mounts will require a high mount alternator. This is appears to be a good and inexpensive option that I scrounged up. http://www.nastyz28.com/forum/showthread.php?t=189080 -

Will you be able to run a low mount alternator with the motor mount plate cut back ? Thanks for updates. -

I've seen the jci kit use the block plug near the mount for water temp adapter and sending unit. From what I can tell, the cx mount will cover this area...... What are you planning for water temp sending unit location? -

Dremel with a cut off wheel will make short work of it If used one to cut coil springs and they are hard as rocks. -

What don't you like about the headers? What else works (headers) with the jci kit that you would do different today? -

looks great, LT headers look really nice. What "old mounts" did you have to remove? Super stoked to see someone on hybrid using this kit with feedback. Thanks. -

Have you tried a slide hammer on the adapter? That's how I pull my wheel side stub axels.... -

Ok thanks... No harm no foul. I have read most if not all of your builds, trials and errors, and suggestions. I know you push your car hard so your input is highly regarded and useful. It's 7:30 in the morning so I'm going to grab a coffee, no hair of the dog for me lol, and watch my taped formula 1 run for the pole in Australia. Jim
