  1. Point of no return on the fuel cell.... spare tire well removed. Mr. postman brought my LT headers... Look nice and no apparent gaps in the welds at collector end. V bands are nice and came with gaskets to boot. Cell should arrive soon so I can plan my attack on the install and associated future go fast goodies.
  2. 16 gallon fuel cell on its way... time cut out the spare tire well this weekend. No turning back now.
  3. motor mounts in, Clutch MC in with SAE nut welded to Z clutch fork, AND my sump fail! with sump would have worked just fine if I would have measured twice and welded once....STUPID, and a waist of $70. Time for a fuel cell instead...any cell size recommendations?
  4. Well I had a fail with sump.... I should have cut it down before welding is on. It hangs way to low.... Not happy. Wish I would have gone the fuel cell route now, dang it! Lesson learned. If I can't fix my tank I'm going you bite the bullet an order a fuel cell....
  5. I heard from John at JCI... Good to go with his stuff if I choose to. The Dakota looked promising as it is GPS versus dip switch. No worries, I'm not there yet so time is my friend for now. Thanks
  6. Thanks.... Great advice and an easy test when they arrive.
  7. I did find cableX.... Is there a specific cable that works with the 240Z...? Both Dakota and abbot only list GM cables which led to my confusion and post. Thanks guys for the info though. I will call tomorrow and get is sourced out.
  8. I found this from Dakota Digital Not sure it will work with the Z drive cable. JCI has not returned my email re his unit, and I don't know if he will sell one without the purchase of his mount kit???? I want to keep the stock gauges for now, what is everyone using to convert the T56 signal to the mechanical Z drive? Thanks, Jim
  9. My LT Headers from CX were on back order..... I may come up with a way to pressure/leak test them prior to install. Thanks for the heads up. Call CXR and see what they plan to do for compensation....
  10. Engine bay painted and prepped. Gas tank will finish up this week and installing clutch MC. Time to start thinking of pulling the LS1... And since every racer knows that stickers make give your horsepower, I estimate my garage around 1000 HP.
  11. By the way BFGR1's wore like iron and lasted quite awhile for me at the track but they were slow to warm up and put me backwards a few times if pushed before temp ready (good grip at temp though) ...... And I never could get them to work great for AutoX. FWIW
  12. R6's will make a world of difference... Nice track. I've been a HPDE coach at Thunderhill for awhile, I would suggest to use the "whole track" edge to egde. You'll find a little more grip and an accelerate smoother and sooner out of your turns. Your spin started at the previous turn which didn't allow you to get set up quick enough having to chase that corner and ending in a spin...... Been there- done that lol. Get ready to spend some cash on brake pads, rotors, tires, and maintenance. HPDE track time is addicting and budget breaking if you're not careful. So glad to see others run their Z hard as intended- buy em, build em, run em..... Cool videos and nice runs at the track. Keep it up.
  13. Thanks.... I did my research and this set up seemed pretty well vetted out. I'm on a spending spree right now collecting parts so I think my plan to complete the swap after the AutoX season may not fly. I can't wait to get this done!
  14. I'm sticking with my sumped 240 tank for now... just dropped $425 in sump, an fittings, braided fuel line, pump and regulator and ...... Should look something like this when completed
  15. That would be great.... I'm always willing to change course if a better plan pops up. Funny you should post this. The cost of hot tanking and welding in a sump is just shy of putting in a real fuel cell. I still have some trepidation about weakening the chassis though... thoughts anyone?
  16. Nice work. Are you 8an to and from the pump and filter?
  17. Thanks Keith. My original plan was fuel cell but i don't like the filler option inside the driver/pass space. No need for a chute as I can't run the 1/4 to save my life lol. Strictly a road racer/autoX/mountain/spirited weekend guy. Since the Z is unibody, I worry a touch about removing the wheel well and properly supporting again with big costs..... Figure if I sump the stock tank I can always change my mind later. Thanks again. Jim
  18. Thanks for the info. Where did you buy your sump? Summit has one but its 11" long and may need be modified a bit to make it work. I'm planning the same as you but intended not to use the steel line..... Are you by passing the expansion tank or keeping it? I was going to ditch it but it will make venting to the fill the tank a bugger. Are you running 8 or 6 an fittings from sump to pump and filter ? Thanks again.
  19. Well I dropped the tank and all of the old fuel lines running down the tunnel...what a PITA. planning on a weld in sump to the bottom of the tank. Need to hot tank it and get her ready to weld.
  20. Looks nice.... You didn't pull your dash? Nice persistence
