Vacuum formed kick panel speaker pods.
drdiabetezx66x replied to Derek's topic in Miscellaneous Tech
Purchased mine, can't wait to get my project far enough to put them in! haha. Hopefully in the next month or so I will be workin on the interior. -
If you need any of the fuel injection setup, we took everything off of a L28 motor and made it carbuerated. The motor had around 35 original miles on it (and was sitting clean since it was pulled off the lot and apparently rear-ended). My dad knows more about it than I do, but if you want to buy the setup, wiring, computer, or anything like that, let me know.

Dr. Diabetez's '74 260Z

So here are pics of the progress for today.Link to Pics We located the bolts to put the trans and motor together...took us about 5 minutes. They were in a box Tmart probably walked by 4 times in the past few weeks while we spent hours trying to find them. While Tmart took the fuel injection off the motor, I layed down the sound deadener. I think it looks more like a rocket ship now! I did pretty much the front half of the car, as the area behind the drivers seats where the spare tire well are still needs to be welded. Also, I didn't do the firewall as of yet. I tuckered out towards the end, so this is first on the list for next time we work on it. There are also some shots of the carb we are gonna use and the exhaust manifold. The manifold is off of the blue 280 (i think its a 280) my dad has that has 48,000 miles on it. Also going to use the radiator out of that car as well. So we probably won't be able to work on it next weekend, but the following weekend for sure we will. We can probably at that point get everything ready so we can drop it in the car. We still need to get the motor mounts (probably out of the blue car as well). That's all for now! -

Try this if pics don't work individually here. Battery tray (we bolted it in just because it was easier) Trans tunnell from front with mount ready to be welded in. (the original was cut out since the guy who oned it before had cut it up to put a V8 in it, so a new one was found to be put in here). Mr. Moose doing the welding. 35 mile trans and engine, ready to be put together and dropped in! All welded up! Hole on top left corner of floor pan welded. Rust you see is just on the surface. This car is remarkably clean! Hole on top left corcer of floor pan (middle of screesn) welded up. -

Can't believe it has been two years + since I have done anything with my car. Now that I have passed my CPA exam, and before I start grad school in the fall, I want to get my car done. We started a couple weekends ago going through all of the parts my dad has ordered over the past 5 years (which was a lot), and we haven't even went through, or found everything. The first actual work we did was this past Sunday, and we did get some things accomplished. Battery tray was installed and undercoated Transmission mount was primed and welded Floor pan holes were welded Got the 35 mile (yes 35 original miles) engine and trans in the basement ready to be assembled and dropped in the car. It's out of an 80 or 81 zx if I remember correctly. We also went through a lot more parts, and decided on a few things... Going to go with disc brakes in rear since the car was purchased set up for them and it's easier and better than swapping the rear end out of another car my dad has. Also picked out headlights and decided to scrap the fuel injection and go with the carbuerator. I'll be on the road faster, and less mess with the wiring harness and electronics. I will put up some pics later of the progress thus far...it's not much, but much needed work to really get things moving on the car. -
If ur going to go any distance today ill come video tape it. I got tons of studying to do so let me know.
-
maybe i can write my dad a check...or maybe it can be this year's christmas gift...hahaha. i'll video tape his maiden voyage with his Z for sure.
-
hopefully Tmart getting his Z on the road gives me a kick in the ass to get going on mine...what should've been on the road last fall is still in the shape condition i left it last spring. Once we (by we i mean Tmart) get the engine back in my truck and wire my G35 for my ipod so i can get throught the commute to/from work easier, we should be able to get crackin on gettin my car back together. With any luck, next summer we will have 2 Z's running (god knows my brother will never get started on his 240). I wish I could just snap my fingers and all the pieces would find their way to where they belong...

off of work tomorrow, got club seats for yanks game tomorrow (even though im a mets fan, couldn't pass up free club seats) then to Belmar, NJ for kegger and getting laid hopefully and beach on sunday -
those look great, but i'm looking for something just to hold the speaker so I don't have to go cutting and worrying about clearance of the window
-
does anyone make just a fiberglass enclosure to put a door speaker in? not the entire door, but maybe something that screws into the original door panel?
-
i have an aunt who got her ring finger cut off by my uncle using a table saw...not on purpose...or maybe it was...and a different uncle who got his finger cut off by a lawnmower blade

could these http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Datsun-Chrome-Bullet-Mirror-Z-240Z-260Z-280Z-510-NEW_W0QQitemZ370049439234QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item370049439234& be painted like a satin black? the black ones are hard to find and are usually expensive...that is about the price i would pay for them. what kind of paint would work?

i don't see a problem with grown people dropping some F bombs on a messageboard...but the rules are the rules...as long as it isn't directed toward a person and just in the general nature of the converstion, i don't think it's a big deal. you won't catch me doing it after reading this thread...at least till i finish my Z and i don't need you guys anymore kidding of course
-
oh my god that is amazing. i thought the new challenger was the sweetest retro car...this would definetely overtake it, and i would definitely put myself into debt to get one...
-
got mine today...prob put it toward what i already spent on my Z the past month. either that or beer...it is almost cinco de mayo!

ill be having to insure my 74 260Z in a few months. What insurance companies are good?
-
looks like I am going to put 5.25" in the door panel. They are about 2" deep, so I don't think they will hit window (I hope). They are pretty shallow the guy told me at 6th ave. I also picked up some matching Pioneer 6x9s. I am going to put them in individual boxes ($26.99 for the set of boxes at Best Buy, great deal) and put them in the back by the trunk lid, or right behind the seats. Also picked up an Alpine head unit, model CDA-9884 with Ipod wire all for $390. Pretty good deal I would say.
-
i think i am just going to either make a box, or put 2 6x9s in the factory panel along the rear under the hatch. What depth of speaker would be good if I am going to start hacking away at the door panels? Don't want them to hit the window
-
haha, yeah. i already have a "dr. diabetez" tattoo, so now i might as well get the plates.
-
Here's my question. I want to put speakers in the factory locations. I'm not sure how they mounted (1974 260Z) because all of the factory panels were removed when I got the car, and the rear quarters were replaced, so I don't see where the speakers mounted in the rear. Without having to do any welding for brackets, what is the best way, and what are the largest speakers I can get in the factory locations? I believe they are originally 4" up front and 5.5-5.75 in the rear. I wanted to go up to 5-.75 up front, and maybe 6.5 or 6x9 in the rear. Any suggestions for any easy install?
-
yeah, we are going to pull it out of the shed this weekend. It's the "oddball" of all of the cars Tmart owns (all 260s and 280s), and he isn't going to restore it. Plus it has the black vinyl top on it. He tried to convince me for about 30 minutes last night that he should by that 280. Once he said he was going to start selling and getting rid of the parts cars he has, I gave him the go ahead (not that he needed it from me, he just wanted some validation). Car looks pretty straight though from the pics. Maybe I can swipe the headers and exhaust from it.

Mine is going to be DIABTZ...just came up with it, and i think it's a keeper. No one in Jersey with Diabetes and a Z steal that, okay?
-
i'm pretty inexperienced, but I have taken the entire dash and everything behind it out of two Z's in the past month. I don't think it will take you that long if all you have to do is assemble everything. Prob a solid day of work (if you have all the parts)
