just got a small 3d scanner so will be working on making some things. glove boxes might just be on the edge of my printers ability but i will look into it. If anyone has measurements for theirs that would be greatly appreciated! seeing as my z currently doesnt have a glove box... Fusible link covers shouldnt be a problem at all. Will get to working on that, if anyone has done a design for it please let me know! I'm actually working on the 240z fuze box cover for myself to have some cool switches too! Thanks for the input it is all greatly appreciated and clearly i have some work ahead of me

its possible to print in a carbon fiber reinforced material (very expensive and causes alot of wear on the 3d printer), or it can be wrapped or dipped after the fact to look like it. my build volume for a single part is 10"x10"x10". if what you want can be compromised of many parts then of course larger. parts printed in abs can be chemically fused together, pla can be glued if needed. hope that helps!

officially have the 3d printer set up! would be more than happy to print any of these mentioned parts just pm me or go to my 3d hub https://www.3dhubs.com/new-york/hubs/zickdesign (for better prices though pm me!)

the e12-80 one? i can get a rebuilt one for about 115 plus shipping from 07078 if that works for you

shouldnt be hard to do! just a little dome with the gate embossed then print a different file for the gate thats the color you want and glue it in... ill get to working on the file

My Cad skills are still evolving so im hoping to start with basic things, like that face plate! and then dive into more complex things. The shifter and the bezels are all possible.... The thin metal layer on top of the faceplate might be difficult but it could be painted to look metal? There are also certain filaments that can print to look like they are metal but cost more! If you want PM me and we can start working on something! Id need some dimensions and pictures but if its less than 10"x10"x10" it can be made. shifter Map shouldnt be a problem, could be just a flat piece with the numbers and stuff raised, the only problem would be the clear coating ontop if you want something like the picture you posted, but if you just want something to fill the hole at the top of the shifter i can make it work. For the Bezel, might just be difficult for me at least because the measurements would need to be exact and can vary alot from different gauges and different cars... However if theres a file floating out there that works and you want to try it id be more than happy to print it for you! PM me if you want to talk about specifics! thanks for far for the ideas

yea was hoping to print some of those files, but cheaper than what theyre offering them for!

Hey Hybridz! Im trying to start a business doing 3d printing and thought what better way than to start with anything datsun? I was looking for what parts people would be interested in having printed. Be it to have a part thats custom made or that its hard to find, or its just cheaper to print! doing some basic numbers and it looks like things will be costing anywhere from 1-2$ per gram of filament needed for the print. Some common parts ill be trying to produce -oil cap -heater vents -fuse cover - inside door handle thing - shifters -datsun emblems and more Let me know what youd be interested in having printed! Im hoping to source some of the cad files and can do custom requests too

np, just let me know

i have a set of stockers im pretty sure theyre all good, came out of a running car (it had a bunch of electrical problems and shitty carbs on it, but still ran!) sold as is with the rings that were on them 100$ +shipping

i have an ecu from an 87, dont think it was a turbo but willing to let go of it for 30$ plus shipping from 07078.... also have most of the wiring with the injector clips mostly in tact will throw it in for 45$ more if you want

if its a touch screen and someone has the skills maybe just have it so you can swipe left or right for different apps? my coding is pretty bad but i'll try and get my hands on some of the parts and compiling some of the code to try and get it running for the summer

good point! i was just thinking of the outside diameter of the watch which fits the hole much better rather than the screen which is a bit tiny.... dont think there are bigger smart watches out there but ill keep my eyes out.... I actually originally wanted to go with the rasbery pi as i already have one (b+ model so no built in bluetooth) but couldnt find a good screen option and thought designing an interface or a way to have all the kind of apps i wanted on it could be complicated.... Main functions that i think would be cool and necessary to invest the money are clock, gps, g-force meter, and maybe bluetooth, the rest will be cool little add ons I like the screen you posted but not sure it would fit that hole that well, would want to make a way for it to look nice... any circular screens out there? I agree about moving the gauge order around too Maybe a collaborative effort on the code? I know you can buy gps and i think accelerometers and bluetooth adaptors for the pi and it takes relatively little energy so it really is possible its just about making it a nice package which is why i originally was interested in the watch ( and that alot of other people have done the leg work for the coding! blech ) The packaging and usability is key for making this look nice and cool i think. Could maybe 3d print a cover for that screen then glue the screen to it and then have an adapter on the cover going behind the screen that will allow usage to the original mounting holes and stuff..... might even be able to wire it up to the tach for a shift light, as its an analog output if im not mistaken? ( this is more for arduino i think but would be cool if it could be hooked up to the pi) edit: could also wire it up for a rear-view camera / maybe even an alarm theres alot of potential with that little pi... I also have an arduino that can help deal with alot of stuff but i feel like might not have the same computing power / functionality

Forgot to mention its a 240z, still carb'd so no ecu! (for now maybe turbo build in the future...) kind of puts CAN based guage out of the question Good point about bluetooth, but could still use speakers on watch to send notifications from phone or other data exchange....Even then would be interested how good the mic would be as its a watch so im assuming they gave it something pretty decent so you dont have to be shouting with your hand to your face? G-Force meter might not be super accurate but would still be cool to have / compare g's its showing in different situations since at least it'd be in a constant location I do like his idea of using a screen and an arduino, could find a way to code something that would have a g-force meter, tell the time, and possibly a few other neat things, the watch just has alot of it already in it and packaged rather nicely with alot of support

Has anyone done anything cool besides adding a boost, afr, etc gauge in hole for the clock which is usually broken in most datsuns? Ive read its about 2 1/16" which is roughly 52mm which is on the very large end for watches, maybe thats a personal opinion? either way there aren't that many smart watches that size but i was looking into fitting a samsung s2 watch in the hole which is just about the right size. Considerations / ideas 1) of course what watch and what functions would be coolest to have in the car (blue tooth, hands free, gps, G-FORCE METER other apps seems pretty cool!) 2) mounting, probably the most important part of all of this and really what im most interested in seeing what people have to say. Would like something slightly better than duct tape... was thinking of maybe finding a way to attach the straps behind the dash some way? or use some form of a plate that i can super glue the back of the watch to and find a way to adapt to the original clock, there's a sort of L shaped bar that is attached to the back of the clock which is what im assuming is how the clock mounts could be possible to make a bar like that? I have not spend that much time behind the dash :/ 3) The watch has the ability to charge wirelessly was wondering how people would go about trying to integrate that into the car? of course i could just plug it into the 12v cigarette lighter but want something a bit more integrated and I also use that for a radar detector haha Maybe just connect the charger to the battery through a fuse and a switch maybe? wont draw much power but would like to have the ability to turn it on and off. Also like to hear peoples idea on mounting on this? I was thinking just under the leather covering the side of the trans tunnel 4) if anyone knows of any other screen that size that can be hooked up to anything would be really interested! link to the watch - http://www.samsung.com/us/explore/gear-s2/?cid=ppc- Added some pics of a stock clock and a random dash i did a quick photoshop to spark some interest, thanks! after looking it over i might switch the order of the gauges to have a better view of it

anyone want to bring this back to life? one idea i had ( which could be completely off base so please let me know!) is to make the actual metal rod of the shifter a bit thinner so at least the parts inbetween could be thicker to make it look more geometrically pleasing? also were people discussing this with a short throw kit on their cars or just the normal 4/5 speed found in datsuns? i have a 78 (i believe) 5 speed on a 240z and would really love to see if this is possible, i have very cheap access to 3-d printers so if people want mock ups i can easily help facilitate with that just to get real life renderings and stuff and see where this goes!!

Yea I've been talking to him a bit seems more complicated than originally expected.... I have to look into the facilities more to see exactly what would be possible but we have here but it would be cheaper for me because more 3-d modeling/printing is free =) or you can find a grant.... casting may still be in the cards as well as we have good facilitates for that but a 3d print / render of the head would make casting a lot faster. Getting those scans seems like quite the stumbling point right now...

Nasa does a lot of research at my school and i have a friend who told me he can try and squeak some of my stuff into some high end printers without too many questions being asked (his work is completely unrelated to them just uses facilities near by) probably will be printing in something like aluminum. Access to a scanner is unknown... Starting from scratch and optimizing is a lot more than i want to start off doing, it will become a part of the process eventually but id like to just get something basic printed then see its flaws / strong points and work from there... I also don't want to mess around with too much like timing chain and coolant passages and have to address those issues, just dealing with the combustion chamber and a changing up the intake / exhaust ports will be good enough for what I'm looking for and make extra work minimal I messaged Derek as well, to see if he'd loan me some cad files we'll see where that goes...

does anyone have good blueprints or lots of specs, I'm not 100% sure everything that would be necessary but the more information the better for heads like the kenmarei spl l6 head or something like the os giken l24 head? i know i will need: volume of chamber geometry of a chamber - this is the big difference from a normal head and spl head spacing of chambers / other holes water passages - sizing / direction / shape or geometry cam tower measurements geometry / sizing of valves - i know i can measure the valves but i want to see what size the bore is oil passages - same info needed as water passages size of threads lots of intricacies - if things taper / angles / slopes / things that aren't seen can easily be over looked i have access to some machines that could potentially be used to print something like this out and have all summer to do the cad work myself with the help of some others, i think it would be an interesting way to get a cheap high performance head. I have an extra n42 head laying around and will probably start by sizing that one up and then trying to adjust the chambers to look / function like those in the spl head... Trying to start the project with research pics and updates to come periodically, please any input or ideas would be helpful!!! I know plenty of people have attempted DOHC cam heads mated to l series but my primary goal is working on a cheap and easy (relatively) revised head which is why the SPL head would be idea as it just modifies the combustion chambers and there is no need for crazy cam tower / fluid passages work... i mentioned the giken head because it has all of that stuff solved!

I was looking into an isky cam but i want to make sure i just make the right decision when it comes to choosing a cam. The build is an n42 block and and n42 head with flattop pistons and a slight overbore, the head is mildly ported and the valves have had a 3 angle valve job ( not sure if this even matters?) compression should be sitting in the mid 10's I want something that'll be fun and torquey but forgiving, nothing too extreme but will help bleed off some of the compression and be good throughout the range of street driving. The car will never see a track, but i like to drive aggressively from time to time i was thinking something in the range of 260 lift and maybe 40-50 overlap? or am i completely off? Also where would be best to get said cam? thanks
