  1. Better get to building if you want to be the first! Alaindatsun has a nicely done TR6060 sitting in his garage waiting to go into his Z
  2. You know your doin it right when people use your stuff for advertising!
  3. Viper spec is actually the smaller spline shaft and is usually cheaper. The viper thing is kind of "old news" TDP sells a stage 3 which is the larger 32 spline SSR shaft plus all the goodies for $1700 which does not include the price of your trans. I see stage two T56 transmissions for sale on LS1tech for $22-$2300 all the time and that is including the price of the transmission. For most of the guys on here the stage two is plenty. Anyone moving north of 700rwhp needs to consider something else. Of all the builders I've spoken to they all pretty much say the same thing. The T56 is underated at 400ish tq and 450rwhp. They start to fail around 650-700rwhp. There are tons of N/A guys ABUSING them with great results and a lot of turbo guys that have them fail regularly. Through my observations and research I have come up with a very simple hypothesis.. The reason turbo cars are eating T56's and TR6060 is because of the power deliver on turbo cars. Most of the time when the power from a turbo is unleashed it comes on strong and HARD very quickly. That in turn makes the car squat sending all the fluid to the rear of the trans and starving the 3/4 gears and the front main shaft of the transmission. This is no secret to anyone who is familiar with the Tremec transmission. There is a very simple solution to this.. install a pump a distribute the fluid accordingly through out the trans. Again this is no secret to TR6060 guys but for some reason there are few T56 guys doing this. The few guys I've seen that do, do it end up with a working transmission time after time. So what I have decided to do is create a little experiment. I'm going to take my bone stock GTO T56 and im going to go over kill on the oil delivery. I'm going to go one step above what most builders do and address every gear on the T56 with ample fluid delivery. When my engine and turbo setup is done I should be around 850rwhp so we will see how long I can make a stock T56 live at this power level.
  4. I can read... the awnser is still $1700. Ill let you figure out how that is possible
  5. 1700 if I bring him my trans BUT that doesn't solve the gear shear problem.. Trust me Im considering the TR6060. Here Is the thing. All of the failures I've heard of have been because of "weak gears" what does that mean? shit material? I doubt it. Gears that are properly lubricated don't just break. Almost all of the gears shearing problems I have seen look exactly the same and all come from the same spot, the front of the transmission. I think the T56 has the same problem the 6060 has, bad fluid circulation and poor lubrication. Im going to call a couple big name builders and ask the same question "where are the T56's failing" $20 says they all same the same thing. Im willing to bet a lube pump dumping fluid in the correct spot will fix the problem.
  6. The beauty of my situation is I have the GTO T56 which means I have the good gear set. To completely rebuild the trans and upgrade to the ssr 32spline mainshaft/yoke/machining yada yada is $1700 for parts/labor out the door from TDP. That is a 850-1k capable transmission for a quarter of the cost of the 6060. Im also going to add the pump for better frontal lubrication
  7. This is the actual link http://www.eecis.udel.edu/~davis/z28..._Fbody_T56.pdf
  8. 5k vs 2500 though.. for half the price ill take a 1000hp capable transmission that doesnt have as "refined" of shifts as the 6060.. Ill let the dust settle on the 6060 and snag one in a few years one the hype is played out
  9. http://www.eecis.udel.edu/~davis/z28/2010/100201_LS7T56/800-1000hp_rated_LS_Fbody_T56.pdf This seems to be the end all be all for the T56
  10. From what ive read the T56 can be adapted to handle big power for pretty cheap.. 30 or 31 spline main shaft and a oiling system for the front gears upgrade the syncros and blockers. But again this is just what i read. Sunny youve had the T56 apart numerous times right? what are you going to use for your new turbo build
  11. Your saying you where able to swap a tr6060 in your 280z with out modifying the tail?
  12. Curious what you guys who will running north of 700rwhp will be using for a 6spd trans? I know the tr6060 with the modified tail section can hold it but will it fit in our tunnel and what is a viable option for the oiling issue. I prefer to stick with the T56 but apparently it will never be able to hold 8-900rwhp
  13. I have a block off plate like that on mine. I wouldnt have thought that size hole could flow enough oil for two turbos, thanks for the idea. I might thave to try that.
  14. BTW anyone installing the LS2/3 pan in car with with jci mounts you will have to lift the motor. It will NOT slide in and out like the LS1 pan due to the thicker front section not clearing the front crossember.
  15. Please keep us up to date on how you utilize the holley EFI system. I may run this route and want to see how it works for you.
  16. After smacking my LS1 pan on some dried concrete in the road I built this "snow plow" protector. I also went with a LS2/3 pan
  17. Are you running a MAF? If not what are you going to do for tunning
  18. Good luck getting that thing into the parts room with out your wife seeing it.
  19. I dont remeber if you are running coolant or oil cooled turbos? If oil where are you pulling the oil from?
