    Thanks alot guys, I appreciate the info. I'm just getting my feet wet here. I was initially under the impression that Tokico HP and some poly bushings would fix all the woes...LOL. It's the dabblers lot in life to never leave well enough alone I guess. I'll look into some of the 510 set ups and go from there,Thanks again. Jason

    I have found that the OEM rear suspension setup to be the weakness in my car.(79 ZX) I am curious as to what changes have been made to help improve high speed cornering. 260DET What changes have you made to your Zx? I have so far went with a mild set-up. (Tokico Hp's w/ springs. all poly bushings) I notice at high spped my car gets really squirrely and I have to back out ot the gas and really "ride" not drive it out. This happens long before my tires want to give up the grip fight. My tires are cheapo street tires. Jason

    I just had to add my $.02 . These cars are an example of hard work, reasearch, and determination on Yasins part. Kudos to you, you have raised the bar for us S130 guys and I for one, appreciate it. Again, Beautiful cars.

    I agree that there is a tremendous amount of room behind the dash of the S130, I do not think however, there is a alot of weight to be saved mostly plastic A/C, heat and wiring equipment. I stripped alot of weight by trashing all of the rear interior panels, and the A/C compressor and mount etc.. just my $.02 on that. Here are some pics of the economy dash replacement, while its not a full step by step I have a few shots that will give an idea of this room we are talkin about.

    Yeah, I feel ya. the full replacement dash is kinda high priced IMHO. I can handle the plastic cover for now,I did see some nice aftermarket leather restoration stuff on here that I liked. I would rather spend the coin on something more aftermarket in appearance than to drop alot of money just to look stock. Thats my.02 anyhow heh.

    I went with the cheapo dash cover for my '79 slicktop from Motorsports. I will post up some pics today or tomorrow. I am happy for now. After I finish the car out I may go bigger on the dash/interior effort.

    I have toyed with the thought of fabbing a heat shield for the fuel rail. I hate the injector cooler concept in that it just blows hot air onto hot parts. If there was some physical barrier to the heat generated by the engine, then we wouldn't need that blower. I got rid of mine like day 1.LOL. I live in Boise, Id. we see 100 Degrees occasionally. I have had no problem. I will post pics of my would be heat shield here if anyone is interested.

    Nice work. I now have a 350 for my 79 Zx. I am excited to see your car making this kind of progress. Keep the updates coming and I'll keep lookin'. I may have some questions when I get into the actual swap. Lookin good!!!

    Hey Phil, I have been in and out lately, fire season... I had some issues with my '79 car and it failed miserably the first time. I want to point out that it is a "non catalyst" car so I agree that first you might want to strongly consider purchasing a new cat. After that I would look into the Cylinder head temperature switch. It is the sensor next to the cold start sensor. near your thermostat housing. That kept me scratching my head for awhile. It basically adds fuel during the warm up "time" for the engine. This sensor could be faulty and causing the cpu to tell the fuel system to dump fuel well after the engine is warmed up. Yielding rich running at low RPM's.. just a thought.     $99.99 @ schucks for whole kit. Clutch, plate and bearing. And it goes up from there like Mayo says, it's what application you want. your car has the same trans. that mine has( unless it has been swapped) In that case I would'nt go big on a niiiice clutch kit before I was sure I wasn't planning on upgrading the tranny in the future.     Welcome aboard!!! I also have a '79 and I love it. I got my clutch kit for less than $100 from schucks but it's nothing fancy. I bought it knowing that later I would building a BW t-5 transmission and just wanted this one to hold up 'til then. Make sure you check up on your fluids as in the master and slave cylinders for the trans. these may have to be replaced along with the clutch pressure plate etc... Also Be sure to follow the FSM in relation to what type and weight of gear oil you are running in the transmission as the have a tendancy to whine when we use too light weight of oil.     No clue about the 2+2, I'm runnin' a coupe so I think I'll get 'er done. I pulled mine apart tonight just out of curiosity. I sanded and repainted the setup and it'll keep me happy until I can get to the junkyard again. From restoring my bumper and looking at that '83 in the J/Y I didnt see much difference. Jason

    I plan on doing this swap in the future.( If that car will stay at the pick-n- pull until i get the time heh.) When I do I'll post pics and such on the project. I think i can make it work w/o too mush hassle. i guess I'll find out. Jason

    LOL! Self repair = sometimes it seemed to work, then it would quit and do the "clunk". The clunk isn't really a clunk, it is when I bump the ignition and it just sits there...This is where the voltemeter drops to 8v. Not when starting but when it just stops. So turn key, fuel pumps starts, continue to turn key, then nothing, and the voltemeter drops. No worries though it was the solenoid, I replaced all of the parts. Batt/ solenoid/ cables and starter. We're runnin' fine! Thanks folks. Jason

    Ok guys, Heres tha goods!!! I have NEW BATT, NEW -/+ CABLES, as well as having power brushed all connection surfaces. I have very similar affect. Power on Voltemeter drop to 8 not 0 but still clunks and drops when I engage the ignition. I had intermitten self repair in my favor for the last few weeks/ month. but now,what ever was going has finally given up the ghost. Where are the fusible links in relation to ignition/starter? Please be gentle I suck at figuring out Wiring diagrams... thanks for any help here. Jason

    Hi all. I said before that I replaced the waterpump and I cant remember the Thermo temp. I think it was like 195... Anyhow I bought some generic flush from Shucks and I ran the car pretty hard for about 15-20 minutes then left it on the road in front of my house idling for about 20 minutes. It never passed halfway on the guage and I'll replace the flush stuff with 50/50 coolant in three days.Thanks for all the input. Jason

    Well I went down to the pick and pull today and lo-and behold there was an 83 n/a car there. I snagged the Radiator out of it and discovered it also is sporting a header and a clean nose clip...I like those nose clips! I'll prolly head back later and grab the rest WOOOHOOO!! I hope this radiator cures my ailment. It looks to be in alot better shape than my current equipment.. I'll post tomorrow with an update thanks again guys. Jason

    I'm sure that would work, and I have thought of it. I was just wondering if there was a simple replacement that some of you guys may have of heard of. I'm kind of holding out for a good direct swap, but if I come up dry here, yeah I'll just shoot it up with a tape measure and see what is out there @ the local pick and pull.     Yeah, I thought so too. My only guess is that it seems to me that this car is extremely susceptible to the daily heat an coolness. I have noticed extreme variations on the temp guage through the seasons. I did the Thermostat and it was fine for winter driving, but as soon as it got warmer and I got into traffic it gets seriously hot like 220 plus. So any temp outside above 55 and sufficient traffic and I have a recipe for some nice melted L28 soup. How do I manipulate the AFM?? You said a coupla ticks...Please elaborate and thanks again for your help and patience in explaining all of this tuff to me. Jason

    I'm not sure wether you mean richening my fuel/air mix or not but the car is running great as it sits andI think that a radiator is the answer.Or did you mean my coolant/water mix? Some have told me to add more water. I'm not sure which is the best. I tried that "Water Wetter" didn't change a thing. I've replaced the Water Pump, thermostat, cylinderhead temp switch, radiator hoses, thermo housing, and heater core valve. Lety me know which you mean and why you think it will cool the car down. I am curious to learn more when it comes to these cars. Thanks for the input. Jason

    I tried several search methods(searchword combinations like "radiator swap etc..) and came up nil. So here goes. I want to find a junkyard application for my 280, she's runnin' a little hot these days. I have seen several direct bolt on parts from misc. vehicles to the 280, like TB's and ECU swaps etc. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on a radiator(maybe a little more able to cope with our cars high heat situation). All input will be appreciated. This is a stock 1979 280ZX 2.8L/5 speed manual. Jason

    Thats definitely a good method. I used my cordless drill and just drilled several holes in the bushing material. I knew It wouldnt hurt much since with my Energy bushung kit i had to remove the metal sleeves as well as the ild bushings. A little trick I learned in this process is that brake fluid will really break those old buchings!!1 I drilled the holes ub the rubber then doused in brakefluid and they gave better. give the fluid some time to work. I hate to hear you had to take 'em in that sucks. Yeah, I notice we see each other around alot so I thought I would try the friend thing. My first time too.. see ya round and give me a shout if I can help with anything.

    thanks for adding me - this is my first "Friend request" on a vBulletin forum, so I'm not sure what different features come with it, but I do want to keep in touch with you since we have similar cars and tend to migrate toward a lot of the same threads

     

    I did the rear end of my Bushing install on Friday was quite a task and getting the bushings OUT was a pain....had to get them done by a shop ($$!!!). For teh front....I found this thread about using a hole saw - what do you think?
