  1. Oh and if you can, get a friend to hold the shaft (hahaha) for you. When installing the new ones, be careful not to lose the needle bearings, and press them in gently with the vice first. Then tap them into place and insert the clips on the channels. Make sure the clips are seated properly, nothing worse than having to re-do all that work because of a clip popping out.
  2. Well yes, you want to hammer the joint down so the one cap will drop out of the "ear". Then remove the cap and hammer the opposite side back the other way to repeat the same. The hammer you're using might be a little overkill. Keeping in mind the joints could be really old. Doesn't take much for those caps to seize themselves in there.
  3. I would suggest starting with a small torch to loosen things up. Like a propane torch, not too much heat. I have had to use Oxy/Acet. torches to get the caps to move before on Jeeps, even had to blast the odd one out with the flame. Please keep in mind though any heat you add will make the "ears" weaker when you strike them with the hammer. Be cautious. Let things cool down a bit. Best of luck and let us know how you make out.
  4. No don't hammer on the yoke. Bridge the gap on the vice with the u-joint and hammer the socket caps out on each side. I haven't done the rear shafts on my Z yet, but have done tons of halfshafts and driveshafts. Make sure any retaining clips are removed (usually on the inner portion of the joint bearing, at the "base" of the cap closest to the u-joint main body) and use a socket of the appropriate diameter to hit them out with a hammer. I've had to use heat in the past, but be CAREFUL you don't want to warp the yokes.
  5. I've had it mistaken for a Porsche several times, a ferrari once (mine has a G-nose kit and skirts, it's lowered too) a TVR? (that threw me for a loop, you live in North America and know what a TVR is but not a Datsun when you see it???) and this one sorta got to me, last night an old man asked "is that a Mustang?" That one hurt a lil bit...
  6. I love know it alls... (directed at michanic220) The Inline six AMC blocks were originally developed by Ford. You know, AMC, the same company that used early buick V6's in the CJ series etc.? That AMC, the company that used very little of their own parts to build a vehicle and outsourced a lot of it? I'm a huge jeep buff, I own several and wheel the piss out of them off-road. I know what i'm talking about.
  7. It's actually not that pricey. You can build your own "stroker" using a 4.0L motor and head and some 4.2L components with bigger injectors etc. If you research it you'll see online there's lots of info...
  8. ^ Funny you should say that, the Jeep 4.0L was derived from a FORD years ago.
  9. Was talking about this just yesterday actually. I know the 4.0L I-6 well and was thinking it'd make a good swap. Maybe someday when I have time i'll measure it up and see. I've got a 4.0L stroked to 4.7L putting out some good numbers that might make a good candidate.
  10. This is the best Z pretender. These two videos:
  11. Yeah i remember the first video "Servin' It Up" that got me lookin around online for more Darius stuff. And then into Z's. Great build, awesome car. I remember the one video where the car is laying rubber uphill through probably 4 gears. Just awesome.
  12. Fixed that for you. A thief is a thief. Regardless of the circumstances, it shouldn't be tolerated. Hurricane or not, "a man's home is his Castle" you sould be able to do with someone as you see fit after they've crossed that boundary. Alas, criminals have more rights than everyday civilians....
  13. That's nice! As for the link, I searched and came up empty. So if a mod wants to merge this thread with the other that might not be a bad idea... Sorry.
  14. So hopefully this is the last time i'll be able to take a pic like this (doin the rear brakes and wheel cylinders on the Datsun out at my parent's in the driveway today).... Because of this. (Yeah I know the shop needs organizing and cleaning up!) And just ignore that garage ornament collecting dust at the back (Fiberglass 95 YJ project). It was a bit of a bitch to install, took a lot of musclin' around and such but it's worth it in the end! 9,000lb capacity, ability to store on top and park underneath. Center jack, hydraulic, etc. etc. Much nicer to work in the shop now. Post up your shop/garage/driveway shots, I wanna see where you guys work on your Z cars!
  15. ^ well sorry, didn't mean to piss in anyone's cornflakes and offend the site by promoting leaving well enough alone. Nothing wrong with spoilers, airdams, etc. I would consider most of the stuff on here "accessorizing" moreso than "hardcore" modifications. Not a huge deal. You're talking to a guy who has built several jeeps, many with different drivetrains and suspensions etc. Leaf springs, coils, coilovers, long-arms, 40"+ tires, huge V8 swaps with over 400HP and 400lb/ft. So i'm not new to the "mod" scene and i'm 23 years old. I just know when something looks like ♥♥♥♥ and when to leave well enough alone. Sure putting an LS1 or RB26TT in a Z car is cool, but does it make you original and the messiah of modding? Hell no, it's like an Integra GS-R swap in a Civic. Whoop-de-♥♥♥♥ it's all been done. Anywhoozer, i'm just here to learn and get info and pass it along. Not really concerned if I fit in. And if I took your post the wrong way, sorry I just felt like youw ere talking down to me like I was unaware. I've got post counts similar to yours on many motocross, jeep and car modification forums i'm not a noob...
  16. If you filled in the two round holes in the front of the "del sol" bumper look-a-like it wouldn't be so bad. The rest of the car looks like scrap metal though...
  17. Leave it the way it is. The lines on the Z's are timeless and unique as it is, how many S30's do you see in your area? We're not talking about putting an integra front end on a sunfire here (yes i've seen it done). Btw that last pic with the chopped Z roof looks like ass! The proportions just look stupid.
  18. Mine would have to be the exhaust. Not overly worried about much else, I have an aluminum skid running from the bottom of the G-nose front end back to the belhousing.
  19. Just a curiousity, I was milling through an online parts site for Z cars and couldn't help but notice the staggering price of the e-brake cable for a mid 70's Z. Which prompts me to ask, what the flying F___ is the thing made of? The price was $399, I haven't had that great of a look at the cable yet, but is it made of gold?
