  1. check out www.3si.org .... i used to frequent that forum back when i had a stealth and before i got in to datsuns actually here you go.... http://www.3si.org/forum/showthread.php?t=353116&highlight=rwd Kevin
  2. ok, one last idea... if i use a 2mm head gasket would it be completely safe to run the p90 that is .080 shaved with dished pistons... im not sure how low the compression would be but i think it would be more suitable and allow me not to have to put in an intercooler Kevin
  3. would it hurt to run the turbo ecu on an n/a motor if i leaned out the afm some. i only ask because i already have all the turbo stuff and no longer have the n/a ecu, dizzy, etc. i have a p90 head thats shaved .080 and with dished pistons the compresion is ~8.5:1. i asked about using this head with a turbo on stock boost on the turbo forum and it seemed like it is in my best interest to get an intercooler before boosting at that compresion ratio even at stock boost. i don't want to risk detonation and i don't have the funds to put and intercooler in it at the time. Kevin
  4. yeah i had my little sisters graduation to go to so i wouldn't have gotten out there until today anyways... those features do seem cool to have on a z.... very good daily driver potential indeed.... if its in as good shape as the pictures show im glad you got it.... i would have butchered it for parts probably;-) regardless, i'm glad it went to a good home and ended up on hybridz:lol:.... Kevin
  5. so your the one who snagged that off craigslist.... saw it earlier and i figured someone snagged it as it wasn't listed as of late today.... i was gonna try and pick it up.... too slow oh well.....lemme know if you ever have plans to part it out.... i need a motor sincerely jealous:-D, Kevin
  6. i know the engine was used with a turbo previously... i don't know how successfully though... it originally came with a rayjay turbo attached to one of the u shaped pipes coming off an n/a manifold from a BAE turbo set up. . and i realize the p90 shaved .080 is normally used with a n/a set up... i got the head with a turbo short block that ended up needing rebuilt.... one of the rod caps came loose or something and the motor cracked off a piston skirt on the crank... spun the bearing... etc.... i figure it wouldn't be too risky to run the shaved p90 with n42 block since there are folks who have run the n42/n42 combo with out much trouble at stock boost level.... and the compression ratio for a n42/n42 is something like 8.3:1... thats only .2 :1 less than my estimated 8.5:1 i just figured i'd see if anyone else had run this specific set up successfully with out intercooler/aftermarket efi Kevin
  7. oops ... yeah meant .080 my bad.... thanks for catching it. ill change it. so far it seems iffy at best to run it with this head.... keep any comments/ suggestions coming Kevin
  8. I have a p90 head that has apparently been shaved .080 based on the number of cam shims that it has. i figure that puts me around a compression ratio of 8.5:1 with stock turbo pistons (i think, correct me if I'm wrong). i have no intercooler and stock eccs... i plan on running stock boost at least until an intercooler is in the picture.... Would it be safe to run this head with N/A dished pistons and block? The reason I ask is cause I'm having trouble finding a turbo block locally and I can pick up a n/a dished piston block fairly easily. i did search but most people with the increased compression ratio on a turbo motor had either an intercooler or an aftermarket efi or both. Thanks in advance, Kevin
  9. i decided to move the car around in the garage and see if i couldn't snap off a couple decent pics... the cars is limited in surroundings since it hasn't moved under its own power yet... its been sitting in the garage since since ive been at college for the past 3 years.... i did the paint job in high school and it hasn't progressed too much since then...... but if any knows of a l28et or l28 for sale in the dfw area hit me up anyways ... on to pics this is my favorite... Kevin
  10. i'm not sure where to get the exact swivels that are made for indoor chairs/bar stools but you could use ones that are used in boats..... http://www.shipstore.com/SS/HTML/GAR/GAR75016.html they also have a stainless one http://www.shipstore.com/SS/HTML/GAR/GAR75020.html Kevin
  11. is this it?.... this one is out of a saab 9-5 or this one is pretty cool too.... http://www.vimeo.com/clip:68107

  13. I was accelerating to about 50 or so... too fast for the conditions and the tires. I had bald tires and it was the first rain we had in weeks so the ground was plenty slick and it was a pretty solid downpour.... back end got loose and before i could straighten it out, i was sideways and soon to have a light pole in my passenger seat.... after i got in the wreck and got my wits about me, i got out of the car cause the rear and front end were hanging out in the lanes of traffic cause the light pole was in the median of the street. luckily no one else hit it. whats amazing is i didn't realize the extent of the damage until i went back to the car a few hours later after it got towed. my jaw just dropped when i saw what i had gotten out of with nothing but a scratch on me. when i bought the car it had the white interior.... i did repaint the plastic pieces though cause they were rather dinged up and dirty. i just found a similar white in a spray paint can. this is what the interior looked like prior to the havoc: and the plastic pieces that i painted in the hatch.....
  14. Interior when i first saw the car. This is when i first really started work on it.... i tore out the interior to see exactly what rust i was going to find..... only to be pleasantly surprised that it really was just about a rust free as it first appeared. I immediately started work on the body. I had until May and only limited to being able to work on it for about 2 hours a day on weekdays in my high school auto body class. Me and my friends decided to paint the hood.We could do pretty much anything to it as i had ordered a fiberglass hood online. the only option was clear.... THE MACH 5. hahaha At this point i had made a little more progress on the body and decided to go ahead and bolt the suspension bits up. I went ahead and installed my suspension which consists of: Tokico hp blues in front Tokico illuminas in rear Tokico springs all around. Suspension techniques sway bars front and rear. Little did i know this would definitely not be the last time i took apart the suspension..... i took everything apart probably 3 or 4 more times. once for tie rods and ball joints.... then 5 lug swap.... brakes, etc. More body work pics.... i decided to shave the vents on the c pillar as well as the antennae, rear bumper, headlight extension seams, gas door, and side lights. I didnt really take any progress pictures on anything other than the c pillar vents though. This is my high school pipe dream here...... for no good reason i decide to rip out the perfectly good spare tire well and install some tubing and such for a fuel cell and relocate the battery to right behind the right rear tire.... lets just say that this was poorly planned and has given me headaches ever since..... notch this one up as a bad decision. This may have been a good idea if i were building a full on race car but i was not and probably in retrospect should have left the stock tank alone. At least for my current goals and budget. These two pictures show the car in primer, pretty much ready for paint. The slicks under the car aren't mine.... i had just mounted the tires on some wheels for a friend and stored them under the car until he came to pick them up..... all in good time though. Fresh out of the paint booth. Had to bring it outside for its first time as the color Chrome silver. I chose to use the 350z silver... maybe there is a little purist in me. here is where i first mocked up the mustang wheels after my brother gave them to me. He upgrade to deep dish 18" version of the same wheel but wiht black centers. Picture of the rear of the car.... but hmmm the license plate look a little funny........ This is half the reason i decided to get a fuel cell... i wanted to conceal the gas filler behind the license plate. I used the stock gas filler and cut it down ... the welded an adapter to it so the hose size would match the cells fill hole. The flip down license plate is off a mid 70's monte carlo if i remember right. I don't know why but when you get the lights on in the car the car finally begins to come to life.... or at least i thought so..... here i am 2 and a half years after this picture was taken, with a car with lights that work but doesn't move cause i need to get the motor rebuilt. I have been away at college since august 2004 so im 4 hours away from the car and only get time to work on it during the summer.... therefore its a project that will never end. This is a grill that i fabricated out of two 280z grills. I simply welded them together with a small bracket on the back side. It needs a little reworking but it rest right on top of the air dam and sits near flush with it... a total coincidence.... it was accidental. I think i am going to try and fit some fog lights or something underneath the turn signal to fill in the void. The rest of these pictures are after i got the suspension and wheels finished once and for all. Unfortunately since the engine is toast and my drive way is too steep for me to move it into the sun.... i had to take pictures in the garage and the camera can't quite capture the whole car in one picture. I got the 300zx front hubs with modern motorsports spacers for the 300zx vented rotors. and bolted it all up...... the rear stub axles i had drilled by a local machine shop for like $100. Hopefully this up coming summer i will have the time and funds to finish it up... It is only 3 or 4 years in the making now.. and i just want to drive the damn thing. Kevin
