  1. dental insurance won't cover fixing same tooth again, so, selling 88 fiero GT .. man named Tony agreed to buy it , 2 grand if i smog it ... i bought it in sept of last year, passed smog, back then, no problem. since then, think i put maybe 160 miles on it ... was supposed to be my son's car, so keeping the mileage down ( 108,000 ). real fun car to drive ( think go cart ). plenty of power, 4 wheel discs, 225/50/15. 5 speed. anyway, Tony test drives it about 20 miles ... decides he wants it ... interior is like brand new, body straight, paint scratched, but from 10 feet ... beautiful. bright red. after test ride, we let it idle in the driveway for about 20 minutes, to be sure no coolant leaks ... no big deal, i used to let it idle for 20 minutes and then take it for a 10 mile ride. did this about once every 2 months or so. anyway, take it to get it smogged ... smog guy has no idea what kind of car this is ... pulls the front hood, can't find the engine ... looks real confused ... car is sitting on dyno rollers, idling for about 1/2 hour while he tries to figure out what he's doing ... sniffer up one of the pipes ... smog guy starts dicking around under the dash, we guess he's looking for the test point, where one reads the trouble codes ... he grabs something from his tool box, plugs in what ever it was ... engine sputters, starts missing a bit ... settles down, but now, running super rich, as in limp mode ... black out the exhausts ... burbbeling ... funny it was running fine, until he crawled under the dash with what ever he had in his hand ... he revs engine until speedo reads 15 mph, holds it for so many minutes, and again at 25 mph. engine is not happy, still seems to be in limp mode ... he takes his timing light, tries to figure out where to look on the engine ( transverse mounted 2.8 V6 ). he removes the gas cap, pressure tests it ... hits some buttons on his test station. printer spits out some paper. he walks towards me, hands me the paper, i figure, congratulations are in order, especially, since he tested the gas cap ... instead, he points out ... failed here CO ... GROSS POLLUTER !!! printed right out on the papers ... no retest, must go to test only station ... we both tried to question him as to what happened ... why it was running so well until he dicked under the dash ??? his english isn't so good, and i don't speak vietnamese .. nor did Tony ... the tester suggested a few things we might do to fix it ... but, i think the guy blew up the ECM ... bunch of crap ... what ever he did, caused ecm to go into limp mode and there is apparently nothing i can do about it ... Tony and i figure ... gonna cost around 500 to 800 to fix it ... oh ... gross polluters ...no limit as to how much money you get to spend to make it pass smog test ... and no free retests ... cost me 70 bucks for this test ... will be 85 bucks at the test only station, NO free RETESTS. so, i can bust my nuts trying to get it to pass, replace things at random and not know if i fixed it, until i pay another 85 bucks at the test only station ... $85 for each test, until i get it to pass ... we both agree, was running fine no smoke out the pipes, perfect idle, until smog tech connected up under the dash ... best we could make out, the smog tech was telling us, it's an old car, who knows what happened ... i'm done ... pissed ... need money to pay the dentist .. Tony has tentatively agreed to buy the fiero for 1200 ... the difference between the 2 grand and what we think it'll cost him to pass smog ... Tony works for the city, lives on frisco. he asked a few people he knows, also a couple smog techs, basically ... no way to prove anything ... amateur's word against trained tech. 1200 is the dentist estimate, BEFORE he starts ( trying to save dead tooth with a crown on it so i don't have a hole there, or need a bridge ). arrrggghhhh ... just venting ... this is really screwed up !!!!
  2. check out this link for what is possibly the best engineered 280zx V8 swap so far ... http://home.earthlink.net/~dvgreimann/index.html
  3. i'm no where near danny ville ... but if you want to drive down to san jose ... mine are off the older four runner ... i think they are the 12's aren't the newer ones 13's ??? anyway ... you are welcome to come and test fit ... take a look at yahoo map and see if you want to take an hour or so one way trip ... rue loiret san jose 9 5 1 3 6
  4. don't know if it was you that messaged me at my email address ... replied to your sbc global address ... bounced back after a couple days ... we will try again ... Kyle, those wheels are long gone ... they were stock 1977 280z 14 inch wheels. they are supposed to be the same as the 240z wheel, maybe a 1/2 wider. sorry, i don't have any pix ... the swap to the toyota calipers is one of the easiest upgrades you can do. i didn't even take the backing plates off ... i test fit the calipers, marked off what needed to be trimmed, grabbed my dremil and a cutting disc, cut the backing plates. worked like a charm. before i did the swap, i asked around. got 12 replies ... all of em saying, no problems if you use the stock 14 inch wheels. some of the factory 15 inch ZX wheels will not clear the calipers. i am currently running 14X7 konig rewinds, they fit fine ... if you want a pic of what i currently have, i can send that. i don't have any with the stock wheels. wayne i can send you pix if the email address works
  5. Mike, i reread my post ... it makes it sound as if i took humbreg with your statement about those vette owners passing urine in there oatmeal, should they see that highly desirable customized ( what is that thing based on anyway ??? ). none at all ... i agree with you 100% ... the real car guys would find it funny as all get out ... the cigar chompers ( the kids today call em posers ) would have a melt down. when the big money and new vettes started showing up at club meetings and events, i quit the clubs and the events ... with all the new cars there, the events looked like used car lots ... the technical discussions, instead of being on how to's on mechanical items, such as rebuilding the front end on a 65 vette or replacing the window regulator in a 62 vette, instead became ... how to reset the clock for 2 time zones in your 88 vette or where to get designer sunglasses and sweater vest with the vette and matching harley davidson logos on em. total B.S. as you suggested, not everyone that enjoys the vette is a " look at me, i own a vette" idiot ... sometimes it just seems that way ... thanks for your comments, and again ... my ego wasn't bruised at all ... my message was meant to be in agreement with your post, regarding sending it on to the cigar chompers, which i am sure my neighbor is going to do LOL ...
  6. of course, i'm not a cigar chomping, gold chain leather jacket wearing, vette owner that has never held a wrench ... but i have owned 4 vettes ... still have my 1st one ( 58 ) i thought that was hilarious ... i forwarded it to my neighbor, he's owned 8 vettes ( currently has a 2004 convertible in his garage ). he will, i am sure be rolling on the floor laughing his axx off. oh, his dream car, that he will never buy .. a 440 68 GTX.
  7. you are correct sir. they are very very very knowledgable ... i had to take my manx down there, it was from texas ... california dmv refused to recognize the texas title. sent me to referee ... i had to pull the 1600 dual port and put the 1200 back in it ( they were still smogging back to 1955 then ). told me because of the engine size, the down draft tube was still legal, but the mechanical dist had to go. he looked the other way, on the full mechanical dizzy, and modified carb, open element air cleaner. let me hang around a bit, while he checked an engine swap in a vette and a mustang with a big block chevy in it. my cousin recently swapped a big block truck engine into an s-10 ( i have not seen it, he lives in oakdale ca.) it's smog legal ... think he said he ran it through the ref station 3 times, before they signed it off. said they were real nice and helpful ... not just, sorry you suck, go home and come back when you have it corrected. they told him what to do to make it right, gave him pointers, where he might find the parts and what he could and couldn't modify. of course, he had not "tampered" with any smog devises and he went in, wanting to do it correctly. and not that it matters, he rides one of those boss hogs ... motorcycle with a 450 hp chevy 350 V8. if you were at the hollister motorcycle meet, last year, you may have seen him, he won the burn out contest. i told him, thought he was silly, wasting a tire that way, think he said the tire was somewhere around 180 dollars. anyway, the refs are smart and as long as you aren't a jerk, most of em are more than willing to share what ever info they have to make your swap legal.
  8. http://www.lad.lv/~martini/porsche/Videos/PikesPeak1.asf there's a few coffee roads on the big island, that we raced on, had the cliff on one side, about as wide, but they were only a couple miles long. man that was fun ...my 66 datsun pickup, buddy in his mom's 3 year old 69 510 wagon, on occasion another friend with his 67 bug. ab 3 of us would take off on one of those coffee roads and haul ***. saw this video, reminded me of back before i got my license ( back then get learner's permit at 13 ), and all the fun, how we talked about some day ... some day ...in reality, i'd probably piss my pants now !
  9. as suggested earlier, the fix is a wheel spacer ( check your studs, long enough ??? ), don't let someone sell you a spacer that is too thick. spacer is a disc fits between the wheel and the hub, moves the wheel outward. most people use a hand rasp ( file ) and clearance the caliper ... leave the caliper on the car, use the rasp, and then a file to smooth it ... you shouldn't have to remove much. do NOT grind on the wheel !!! but, you probably know that already ...
  10. mr evil, was that slave mounted under the starter motor on the passenger side or on the driver's side ?
  11. Bob, unless i screwed up ... sent you several pix to your comcast e address ... hope that was where they were supposed to go ...
  12. geeeez Bob, you don't write me ??? i'll see if i can get under mine and send you a pic ... then you can tell me if mine is original ... its supposed to be the home version of the game ... i was told that it is a datsun part ... maybe truck ???
  13. reading street rodder magazine, page 170, there is a two page article on an inline electric coolant booster pump. run it conjunction with your mechanical water pump. thermostatically, pump moves 55 gallons per minute, increases coolant flow 300%. can be programmed to run, along with your electric fan after engine is turned off, to cool engine between runs. anyway, maybe this will be the ticket for those with engines running hot at idle, stuck in traffic or cruising just off idle. check it out at http://www.stewartcomponents.com called EMP Stewart.
  14. my uncle was doing yard work, helping to restore a historical cemetary. mosquito bite. must of had cat crap under his nails, he was pulling weeds, ect. scratched the bite, got infected, tried to deal with it himself. two weeks later, hospital. blood poisoning, massive infection, amputated his leg, he died a week later. cat crap, is what the doctors supected due to the type of infection and bacteria in his blood. that stuff is nasty, keep your kids away from it ... if your lady is pregnant ... keep her miles away from it ... isn't it odd, how dogs can eat it and seemingly no harm. as far as my neighbor ... trapping didn't dent her herd ... she brings home strays and lets em loose in the neighborhood. her husband is beside himself ... apparently, he's been catching em while she's at work ( he's retired ) and taking em to the pound ... feral cats ... he had to spray for fleas under his house, cats got into his travel trailer, made a mess, infested it with fleas. she and i don't talk, ever since she stomped onto my property telling me how to raise my son ( 3.5 gpa, just a real likeable, well mannered boy, i am extremely lucky ). i pointed how her oldest is still in county jail, her youngest (22) just got out, don't be telling me how to raise my boy !!!
  15. knew a guy, wayne warner (?). had a 57 4 door chevy wagon, straight 6 292 with side draft webers, running some insane 5:16 or something in the posi. stock looking beater. as you suggested, you have no idea what you are up against. his 0 to 60 and stop light to stop light times were spooky fast ... cruising 1st street in san jose, he stomp all over chevelles, camaros, mustangs, challengers, cuda ... all the big horse power cars of the day ... he'd pull over, park, lift the hood, pretend to be fiddeling with something ... all those guys with more money than horse sense, be trying to figure out how they got their clocks cleaned by a 6 banger.

  19. my stupid neighbor cuts a 25 lb of cat food and leaves it on her porch. replaces it every 2 to 3 days ... freaking cats are all over the place ... crapping on my lawn, in the flowerbeds at my front door, they get in the car ( if the window is down ) and wiz .. they used to get up on the flower boxes under my house windows and wiz through the windows into my house ... until i got rid of the boxes. i was trapping em with the hav a hart trap ... leaving em in a field where there are hundreds of mice ... she called the county.. advised em that some one was trapping cats ... humane society left notes on all the houses, explaining ... can only trap cats with traps they will loan you ... then you must take the trapped cat to them. way too much trouble ... some neighbor's complained about her ... were told ... she says they are not her cats and there is no law about her being able or not able to put food out for her 2 cats. bunch of crap ... all over the place ... i've had some pretty cool pet cats ... had one that walked on her hind legs, fetched rubber bands, played soccer with me using a ping pong ball, came when you called her name, would sit or beg on command, and the coolest thing was, she'd box with you ... i'm not anti cat those feral cats are no different than rats ... the nasty of the cat crap can kill you ... cause birth defects ... and more ... nasty nasty ... the herds need to be thinned. the pied piper needs to start piping ...
  20. in fairness, i have to mention ... the van i was driving then, was originally meant to be stacked to the rafters hauling company mail around san fransisco ... 318 v8 ... hd automatic, and a wicked set of 4:88 gears ... in the city, they went to smaller vans. company replaced my straight 6, 3 on the tree gmc van with the dodge ... YES ! 0 to 60 zoooooommmmm ... probably topped at 85 mph ??? drove it for about 5 years, before it got auctioned off ... funny, when we were on strike a manager drove it for 2 weeks, when we came back, the right rear tire was bald .. wonder why ??? LOL ...
  21. seems there are too many cats wandering around wisconsin ... locals want permission to start eliminating them. the government has concluded that cats are not a protected species. therefore there is no reason for excessive herds not to be thinned, same as deer or any other animal. locals have petitioned that any loose cat be included ... all cats that aren't on a leash, or on their owner's property be fair game ... the state is apparently leaning in that direction ... all free range cats would be considered part of open season. you know how they have those elk hunting trips to alaska ??? i'm thinking i might make a small fortune leading expeditions into wisconsin for the great cat hunt ... MADISON, Wisconsin (AP) -- Although Wisconsin residents have voiced their support for a plan to legalize wild cat hunting, some legislators and cat lovers say they will continue their fight. The proposal would allow licensed hunters to kill free-roaming cats, including any domestic cat that isn't under the owner's direct control or any cat without a collar, just like skunks or gophers -- something the Humane Society of the United States has described as cruel and archaic. Outdoor enthusiasts approved the proposal 6,830 to 5,201 at Monday's spring hearings of the Wisconsin Conservation Congress, a citizens' advisory group. The results, released Tuesday by the state, get forwarded to the Natural Resources Board for its consideration. Ultimately, though, any measure would have to be passed by the Legislature and signed by Gov. Jim Doyle. Two state senators -- Scott Fitzgerald and Neil Kedzie -- are promising they'll do everything they can to keep the plan from becoming law. Kedzie, who chairs the Natural Resources and Transportation Committee, called the issue "a distraction from the main tasks we have at hand." "I don't see a whole lot of momentum for it," Kedzie said. "It's not the responsibility of the DNR to regulate cats." Fitzgerald, co-chairman of the Legislature's powerful Joint Finance Committee, said he will "work against any proposed legislation to legalize the shooting of feral cats." At least two other upper Midwestern states, South Dakota and Minnesota, allow wild cats to be shot -- and have for decades. Every year in Wisconsin alone, an estimated 2 million wild cats kill 47 million to 139 million songbirds, according to state officials. Despite the astounding numbers, the proposal has been met with fierce opposition from cat lovers such as Ted O'Donnell. O'Donnell, who gathered more than 17,000 signatures in an online petition to oppose the plan, was joined at Monday's meetings by scores of other animal lovers who held pictures of cats, clutched stuffed animals and wore whiskers. Even Karen Hale, the head of the Madison Audobon Society, one of the largest pro-bird groups in the country with 2,500 members, voted no. She said the proposal was just too controversial, even though wild cats have reduced the state's bird population.
  22. you are correct ... leiber or what ever her name is and flores from modesto are apparently gearing up to get "polluters" off the road ... from what i read of it ... appears won't matter if pre 74 or not .. rumor is, flores wants to reintroduce the bill that gov davis vetoed ... only cars 45 years and older will be smog exempt ... all others will have to pass smog test. keep an eye on these bastards ... write your reps and the gov. let em know your are watching ... they sneak these things in .. and as most everyone knows , how california goes, so does the rest of the usa. and soon the rest of the world.
  23. 1983, i beat a 68 mustang 302 3 speed, headers wide tires, 4bbl, with my 1978 dodge phone van, loaded down, 2 ladders on top, phones in the back, dinging, pinging and ringing as they bounced on the shelf. 3 times, light to light, back to back. on expressway, 50 mph zone, not another soul around. we touched 60 and backed off, i was one and a half van lengths out on him all 3 times. he was pissed, his 2 friends, in the car with him laughing their asses off. he was yelling at em, thought he was gonna toss em out. weeks later, i was doing a job at a high school, some guy points at the van as i pull up. i'm putting the cones out, when i hear him say to his buddy, yes it is, that's the phone truck that spanked your mustang. look how long his hair is, that's the dude. chatted a bit, that's how i knew what was up with the mustang. we all laughed, ahhh good times. does that count as a mustang story ???
  24. rather than post the pending california smog and auto related laws should you be interested, heres a url to check http://www.smogcheck.ca.gov/stdPage.asp?Body=/Geninfo/Laws_And_Regulations/Default.htm&TextOnly=False admin. please posty where appropriate ... hey
