Mike, this guy posted an ad on craigslist for a G nose for sale. he is in san jose ca. i emailed him. no reply. you may want to drop him a line ... i can't find the ad ... the ad ran out, wasn't pulled by seller. he may still have it. luckybobo@sbcglobal.net good luck with your hunt. oh ... years back, i paid roughly 400 ( including shipping ) for a used MSA kit ... seller moved before shipping, we emailed a bit, he was drowning under tons of rotten luck. then after 6 mo. the seller disappeared. no contact at all. after the 10th month, i gave up, figured his life sucked more than mine, count my blessings, wish him better luck and i moved on. about 19 months later i come home from work ... big shrink wrapped package on my front porch it was the msa kit ... no card, no message, no return address. maybe your g nose will come back to you. wayne

maybe this is why Johnny can't read !!! problem is ... most of em take jobs as teachers because they can't get jobs in the real world. most of em think they oughta be in charge, teaching is just the stepping stone on the path to adminstration ... be a principal or get on the board of education ... maybe become an officer in the union. there are a few honest teacher, work their aXXes off, spend their own money on supplies. a few that truly care about students, stay after school and tutor. to those few, i take my hat off, they love what they do, live to see the spark in a student's eyes when that moment of understanding explodes. those few teachers that aren't there taking up space while waiting for a better job. to them, i say thank you !!! thank you thank you ! you are molding america's future !!! and doing a damn fine job ... to the others ... QUIT !! go back to business college, see if you can get a job at burger king ... i understand they have pictures on the registers ... shouldn't be too taxing on your time schedule. i am quite sure in a matter of a couple years you might be wearing your paper hat and, that coveted assistant manager name tag ( all that time you spent day dreaming and whining about how hard your job is, may just pay off for you ). again, if you want to be a manager ... quit teaching, you are not doing america any favors !!! stop by burger king and grab an app.

the new smog test involve the dyno. used to be get it to pass visual and tail pipe ... a few friends had a smog legal engine ... swap that small block chevy into whom ever's chevy ... a home built exhaust ( this was for pre cat cars ). there would be no transmission, ect ... car was towed to smog shop ... pushed into the bay .... smogged ... towed home. drop the hot rod engine, trans, ect back in place ... good for another 2 years. one of the local VW clubs kept a stock smog approved engine for just that purpose. depending on how much has been removed ... you'd have to rig it ... stock engine trans drive shaft ... hook up factory smog ... nahhh way too much trouble with cats and sensors. chp is cracking down on out of state cars that are seen in commuter traffic. one has 10 days, if working here, to register the car ... now here's a thought ... military are exempt for as long as they are stationed here.

greetings! i used the rust bullet all over the floors of the 72 z car nickel and dimeing me. used a heat gun and heavy metal putty knife to get the tar paper up. cleaned the floors with laquer thinner. the floor looked solid, no visible rust through, no flaky rust. i used a heavy duty hand held wire brush and scrubbed each side opening up some pin holes ... nothing major. cleaned it up with vaccum cleaner then used a wire brush on a drill ... this burned through the thin spots and left a few pin holes. vacuumed up the garbage. used laquer thinner and rag to clean the area. whacked the floor a few times with a large rubber mallet ... nothing punched through, no distortion ... floor is strong. grabbed the rust bullet and some fiber glass mat. straight out of the can, painted some over the pin holes, large enough to cover the area, regular coat of paint. laid the fiber glass mat, i had already trimmed to fit, over the area. using the end of the brush, straight up and down ( you may use a roller ), i tapped the glass into the rust bullet. once it was sticking to the floor, i poured a little bit ontop and working from the center out to the edges, i painted the rust bullet over the top of the glass mat. then another layer of glass on top ... same with the brush, tapped the new piece into the rust bulltet i just applied. i repeated this with 4 layers of mat. following the directions, i let it dry and then added another 2 layers of fiber glass mat. let that dry and according to directions, painted the entire floor with rust bullet. with the por 15, they recommend that one use the special material they sell, when ever doing the same thing i did. with rust bullet they tell you to buy fiber glass mat or other such material and use it. no reason for that with the rust bullet. plus with the por 15, you need to use all the special cleaners and neutralizers ... no need with rust bullet. that was almost a year ago ... no issues. i was emailing back and forth for a while with a por 15 distributor, he now sells rust bullet under one company name and por under another company name. he tells me he prefers and uses the rust bullet on his own projects and those he works on with friends. he sells por 15 as well. tells me, there is more profit selling the por 15, as one needs to use all the other products that por 15 sells to make it work correctly. but, he tells me it' a major PITA as he has to do much more hand holding with the por 15. his opinion, they both work. por 15 much more work, costs more. rust bullet, costs less in long run as you only need to buy the one product, easier to use and he thinks, as the rust bullet web site shows, especially when the por 15 isn't used exactly as per the instructions, the rust bullet is better than the por 15. he also added, when used properly, what ever one uses either product on, that item is going to be around long after the two of us are long gone. he told me, you want por 15, i will sell you por 15. you ask what i use, i use rust bullet. as you read, i bought and used the rust bullet. you can also spray rust bullet ... get it in those areas where you can't reach with a brush ... it will have a 99% chance of bonding and preventing any future rust. can't do that with the por 15 without buying their expensive cleaners, neutralizers and thinner. plus you better hope you got all of that stuff out of there, or the por 15 will not bond to the metal or rust ... eventually i need to get the z car in the air, get under it, remove all that tar undercoat and rust bullet the bottom of the floor boards. my 82 cents worth

years back, some old guy swings a left turn off a side street across 3 lanes into my buddy's cherry 60 impala ( pumped fuel injected -roschester vette injector off a 65 vette -327, 4 speed, console, bucket seats, power windows, air conditioning, shaved chrome, crystal clear black paint ), ect. old guy shoved the impala up onto the sidewalk ( old guy was driving a lincoln 4 door of some sort ). bad guy's insurance company offers $450 for the impala. his car was still driveable ( after replacing 2 wheels and hammering the quarter panel off the tire. he took it to 3 body shops ( chevy dealership, mercedes dealership and a guy that repaired them italian sports cars ). repair estimates were in the high 3 to mid 4 grand range. my buddy takes his photo album and shoe box of receipts to the agent's office ... roughly 5 grand ... hemming's motor news and pictures of similar cars for sale at car shows. he also brought the estimates ... agent smiled ... pushed album and shoe box back at him, offered 1200 ... buddy says ... small claims court .... plus will write to local newspaper consumer's dept. ( action line ) took a month, he got a little over $4000 and bought the car back before they changed title ... no salvage title ... i think for 200 bucks ... he bought a door and front fender. for something like 800 to 1200 bucks some shop pushed the door frame out, lined it all up, installed the new door, straightened quarter panels and realigned the trunk lid. some bondo and primer ... friend of a friend painted it ... if you knew you could tell ... so, take you ads, pictures, receipts and if you can get estimates to repair the damage take that ... you want them to repair or replace you loss ... that's the key ... as to whether or not it is considered foolish by the neighbor's and her agent that you put 10 grand into this car is none of their business ... their business is to replace or repair ... like for like ... call your agent and ask for advise ... that is what they are there for ... even if you didn't have full coverage on the z ... stick to your guns and mention going to the local papers and radio consumer protection/fraud depts of the news dept. good luck with the parasites/leeches at the insurance company.

you might want to check with this site. http://www.datsunzparts.com/ you may also want to check with local welding shop. a good friend of mine, restoring a 60 impala convertible ( 348, 3 twos, 4 speed ), found it was a lot cheaper to have a welding shop cut, remove and weld in the replacement floor and trunk, than it was to have a body shop do it. he also found one of the welders would do side jobs and came to his house and do work in his driveway.

Dan's reply came in while i was 2 finger typing ... if you look at Dan's car ... appears to be factory original. quite a few of the new cars have the plastic covers over the rear bumpers, they mold right into the body. if one does as beautiful a job as Dan and his body man ( i could only wish to have those skills ) have done, most everyone will think it came from the factory that way. not must chance of anyone asking where your rear bumper is.
-
passenger cars original equipped with front and rear bumpers are required to have both front and rears ... pickup trucks do not come from the factory with rear bumpers ... you may be thinking of that. because the bumper is so thin in the 240z most cops don't even know it's missing. the VW guys with the stinger pipes like to remove the rear bumpers. the cops tend to notice them. the missing bumper gets added to the list of things on the fix it ticket. i guess as long as you aren't doing anything stupid, you probably don't have too much to worry about with no rear bumper ... the front bumper, that tends to be the one they notice ... back in the 70's they used to pull a u turn to go after my brother in his 55 chevy. on a 55 pull that bumper off, shed some weight ... to keep from being pulled over weld a pipe together and bolt it to the front . i forget why, but he dropped the back bumper ... he never got pulled over for that ( lic plate on 55 mounts to the trunk lid ). yeap, calif law says if came with front and rear ... you need front and rear vw guys put nerf bars on the bugs ... some cops think those are fine, others still write a ticket ... now, on fix it ticket you get to pay the fine and get it signed off as repaired ... find an officer that agrees a nerf bar is a bumper, he signs it off. upsetting thing is, you still have to pay the fine, even if a car friendly officer signs off the ticket

i was trying hard not to take from your victory. never thought you were bragging, rather i could feel the excitement in your tone and could imagine the big smile on your face. i was hesitant in writing my post as i didn't want to take that from you. in no way did i mean to imply, "well, it was just a honda" or that you don't know anything if you weren't around for the muscle car era. an acceleration contest between a goat and a horse is still a contest and fun for both the goat and the horse, no matter who wins. i can appreciate your excitement ... 1st ride in your z car and a kill, no way you would not want to share that ! i can truly appreciate that. no raining on your parade or insults intended. rather, i was curious as to where and when the honda got this reputation for being quick. big apologies if i slighted you, was never my intention to spoil your fun or announcement. please continue posting on your progress ! none of us were born knowing this stuff, we feed off one another, we support one another and for the most part, truly enjoy one another's company, advice and comments. remember, safety 1st and have fun. good luck with your build, sounds like you and dad are on your way to a great father son project ... please don't let my question and comment sour your mood and anticipation of good times to come. wayne

Another reason for slapping the white off rice is because they start it or when you do you know you'll get a race out of it. true, and i like to let em get out about a car on me ( old nasty habit ) and then walk past em. see the look on the driver's face go from joy to what the f just happened ?? now, if i have trouble catching em, that's even more fun, as you suggested, love a good race. ain't gonna get that from a fat woman riding a tricycle ...

what has happened here in America, when one thinks hondas are quick or fast ... that a honda is the car to beat in a stop light to stop light acceleration contest ? here and on other sites i read of individuals who have beaten a honda in a contest of speed. without massive injections of cash, a honda is just another cockroach on the highway ...albeit a very well built roach. a 3000 GT, a twin turbo Rx7, twin turbo 300zx,maybe even a supra or newer mr2, but a honda ? the stock 88 fiero gt i sold last month, out ran neighbor kid's crx with a Vtech in it and i didn't even know he was behind me at the light, trying to catch me. hour or so later, i'm moving cars around the driveway( 4 cars on 3 car driveway), he yells across the street to me, if i had the NOS working ... i'm thinking NOS, what the heck is he saying ??? until he told me he was behind me at a light, i didn't have a clue what he was chattering about. i was just blowing out a little carbon ... and he has over $3k in his engine alone ... it's lowered, has nice wheels, hugh discs and calipers, upgraded suspension, decent paint, killer stereo and probably handles like a freaking go cart. i know i'd have a blast driving it. but it's a honda, and without maybe another $3 grand and spray, it's not quick. don't mean to throw cold water on your victory, acceleration is a kick in the butt, i love it. letting the hot air out of a honda driver's over inflated ego is also fun that said, i need to ask with a moment of reflection and reference, in the late 60's early 70's ... pumped 327 in a 65 SS chevelle, 440 in a 72 challenger R/T, 69 boss 302 mustang, a 70 amx, 69 road runner 383 with 440 heads, 70 camaro SS 454 ...427 cobra, or 70 LT-1 vette ... those were the cars machines we chosed off against, anything less you may as well have said you raced against bunch of nuns that were driving a pinto pony mpg. my words are probably just the ranting and ramblings of an old guy, who has driven a number of hondas and,all but one of the cars i listed above ( one of the cobras i drove had a 260 V8 in it, the other a 289 ), i don't get it ... when did the standard by which most of today's youngsters measure quickness become the fart can hanging below the bumper and hugh wing screwed on the trunk lid, honda ?

JTR is working on a kit for the 280zx http://www.jagsthatrun.com/Pages/Datsun_Z_V-8.html though i don't think Dave's is an LS1 http://home.earthlink.net/~dvgreimann/index.html you may want to use the search engine, i think "280zx" may be enough to point you in the correct direction. Ross used to have a real nice V8 zx, until some bad guys stole it. http://www.modern-motorsports.com/catalog/default.php?cPath=26&PHPSESSID=371260782032b393e9a1d874b851d50b i think MSA may have a kit for the 280zx as well ... http://www.zcarparts.com/store/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=PRC01 maybe get you a step in the correct direction wayne

yes, the JTR manual does a pretty decent job of suggesting which transmission you might use. 4 speed, 5 speed, 6 speed. turbo automatic, 700r, 350, 250, doug nash, ect. plus, you might use the search engine "transmission" mine is an older scarab kit car. 350 and vette 4 speed. i bought it dead in the water. i have a fair amount of mechanical background but, i can't offer much advise, as i have no 1st hand installation knowledge of the pitfalls in any swap into a z car. you will not be dissappointed by the manual. it has become known as the zcar engine swap bible. one thing though, it does assume that you or whom ever you are working with does have more than a basic knowledge of how to turn a wrench. that you've swapped a clutch out, maybe replaced a head gasket, things along those lines. read the manual all the way through. then read it again. when you get ready to find a car ... read it again. most of the questions you are going to want to ask Mike and Greg, have been answered and are in the book, i find new answers everytime i reread my copy. once you start on your project ... make copies of the section you are going to need. read those pages, highlight the things that are extra important ... tape these pages, side by side to your garage wall. refer to them often. good luck with your build !!! wayne

mmm, bacon ! yes ... bought bacon on 5/30/05 . ...pound and half of thick cut, special smoke flavored and seasoned. normally, cook bacon and house smells of ... well the fat and grease ... with this bacon two days later, friends say, man house smells great, what is that hint of smoke, like a cool winter day and the 1st oak wood burning fireplace is fired up. ... i didn't want to be greedy and eat it in a couple days. been rationing and savoring each piece. bacon with cottage fried tatters and omelet, BLT sandwiches ( mouth watering ), and just plain bacon ... well ... i think i waited too long ... 1/8th to 1/4 pound left ... was afraid i waited too long ( bacon has been in the electric ice box ). 5/30 to 6/10 i cooked it and let the australian shepard that lives in my backyard enjoy it. think i could have safely enjoyed that bacon ??? well, i know i would have enjoyed it ... think it would have been safe to eat ? dog's scavenger digestive system works differently than mine, so i know he's safe ... cat crap don't bother em... seem to think it almond roca candy ... 5/30 to 6/10 ... refrigerated bacon ... was it safe to eat ... -
Tim, thanks ... that was so easy ... completely over looked that button story of my life, always over looking the easy way and, usually finding the hardest way to do everything.

of course it wasn't intended for anyone to seriously attempt to get around the law. many people have never seen the official metal sticker, plus they are embrossed and have their own S/N. that aside ... you are all correct, looking at it from a distance, the humor is a bit askew, and it could be taken the same as the guys on crotch rockets bragging about racing cops. i did not see that until it was pointed out. one can tell from the many discussions in the past, that we all are trying to build within the law, otherwise there wouldn't be such an extensive amount of time and research spent on the subject. thanks

my 72 is a scarab kit car with the california smog legal sticker on the body near the door latch. ... originally had a built 73 350 in it ... they scored a cylinder, sleeved it ( back in 76 or 77 ). sleeve came loose. previous owner dropped in a 71 350. he claims 370 hp. seat of the pants says, i don't think so ... although it did completely surprise a guy in the last year model z/28.

the times on direct tv are sometimes different on direct than cable. i'll get a phone call from family or friend, telling me a show is on ... but they are on cable ... so ... i check the schedule and because they loop most of the shows on one day every 4 hours or so, i get to watch it later. was a good show ... i wanted to see more of the zx. Seth over at classicz is building an electric 240z. judging by what he has done and anticipates doing ... it is going to be as fast and quick as the stock 240z was when it was new. he's a college student, so he's on a tight time budget as well as funds. i think he said this will be his 4th electric mobile. if i drive electric, i wouldn't mind at all if it was a 240z.
-
show on the discovery channel, guy has an electric powered 5 speed 80 (?) 280zx. name of the show is "sucking amps" has a shop in state of washington. today's show they are building a 1/4 mile racer out of a retired mail truck.

if you feel that he has ripped you off and not just a streak of bad luck in his part ... did you ship it with the us post office ? if so, ask to speak with the post master. if this guy is using the post office to commit fraud, they just may be interested in this and offer some assistance.
