  1. damn karl, you beat me to the paint. i'm in the process of going white.
  2. i've seen 87 celica's with strut bars that link from the strut towers to the middle of the firewall. perhaps that's something you might want to try. maybe instead, you could do some kind of "x" cross support in from of the engine.
  3. what about having bends that would put the strut bar in front of the engine.
  4. did you already hook up the clutch slave and master cylinder? how was that?
  5. i'm pretty sure that it doesn't matter what engine you throw in. as long as it's a car that was made after 1975, it will need to pass smog. even if the engine doesn't need to pass smog, you'll have get it verified by the state referee.
  6. looks kinda cool. it might be a pretty big task to accomplish that though. by the way, what size are his rims?
  7. i'm glad that this is one thing i thought about at the time that i bought my z. i feel bad for the z's that can swap in anything.
  8. for the driveshaft i will need the r154 driveshaft, have a shop cut the shaft part that goes into the r154 tranny and adapt it to my 280z driveshaft, correct? for the throttle setup, i'm confident that i can make that work. i'll just look at your pictures and steal your ideas. for the radiator, i'll see if the supra's radiator will fit. for the fuel lines, i'll just have to look up some longer one's? which one's did you use? also, for the fuel pump, should i go with the 255 walbro pump? what do you mean by, "Clutch hard line will need to be shortened and flared again." what do you mean by "flared again"? ...and the break upgrade and suspension is in the works. i wouldn't dare to use this engine without stopping on a dime. by the way, do you happen to have pictures of your wiring to go along with the instructions. it's probably too much to ask but it would be great if you did.
  9. karl, how was the wiring? what's the overall things to get to make this swap run as a stock engine. here's the list that i've come up with. let me know if i've overlooked something. 7mgte engine, transmission, clutch slave cylinder, wiring, ecu, shortened driveshaft, custom engine mounts, transmission mount, turbo piping, and exhaust piping. i am interested in putting this in my 280z. am i missing anything? thanks.
  10. williamb, that's an interesting point about the red coolant. i shall let my brother know since he is the one that currently has one.
  11. i don't really dig it. but what ever floats your boat. reminds me of the 24inch rims that some people like to put on their lifted crown victoria's and muscle cars. :0
  12. this man did it. i don't know if he's running windows though. it's just a reference so you can see what it looks like. props for all the body work he did.
  13. looks good. will there be blind spots?
  14. ok thanks. so if i want to weld on frame rails and weld in the camber kit later on, will the 110 be enough? also, i am planing to fab up an engine mount and trans mount for a swap. thanks. how will i know if it has shielding gas? why is that needed? sorry, noob to welding machines.
  15. sorry for pulling up an old thread but reading through this kinda confused me. what would be more for me? a mig or tig? i plan to do some reinforcing to the s30, fabricating exhaust systems, and welding misc things. would the mig be enough for me?
  16. how agressive looking is this setup? i'm just really looking into a similar set up. i just want to lower it to make it look aggressive. i don't want it so low to where it's gonna be scraping all the time. actually, the lower the better and at the moment it's gonna be a street car only, no track time.
  17. the 7m's are good engines. you can make easy power with the gte's. the only downs that i can think of are it's headgasket and the head. i've rebuilt two of these engines with 6 extras on the side. the 7m engines with higher milage has problems with the water jackets on the head. they like to deteriorate. it was most likely a toyota design flaw. the lower milage ones started to show the same deterioration on the head. if you haven't decided yet, i say go for it, if you can be satisfied with about 170-190whp from the non turbo 7m. assuming you have a good running 7mge, you'll be running around the low 15's to high 14's in the quarter-mile. maybe. for $500, it's not a bad deal. that should save you some money to reinforce the block and turbo it. wooo hooo!!
  18. thanks my man. just wondering, with your setup right now, are you using any type of fuel management? would it be bad to not run with a fuel management?
  19. would you by chance have any tips on the wiring? what wires you used and decided not to use?
  20. damn, looks good. start modding or restoring. lol
  21. sounds like a fuel problem. perhaps there's not enough pressure sending your fuel.
