Nice project! I had a 84 BMW E28 with a S38B38 in. We still have a couple of S38 engines in the shed and my brother has a S38 turbo in his 85 E28. You should fit euro headers on it, these US manifolds hold back some HP.
@Chickenman: Thanks!
We have 95 ron (91 in US) available as the lowest quality.
I plan on running it with coil on plug ignition.
Cooling is not an issue either, my Patrol radiator is twice as big as a 280zx radiator and 3 core thick.
What is the size of a front cartridge of a S130 / ZX? Length and diameter of shock body.
I think they will fit my Laurel C31 but I just want to be sure.
I have a set of flat top pistons that I plan on putting in a L28 JDM block that I have. I have a Megasquirt that I will be using for this engine.
I've read a lot about the flat tops and a N42 head and this combo will detonate easy. Backing of timing will "solve" this but at a cost: less HP and torque. Compression will be around 9.8 with this combo.
Now If I get a P90/P79 head compression will drop to 8.5 but this will not detonate due to the better shaped chambers.
But what combo would be better for Hp and torque?
I planned on putting a cam in it.
Second thing, I original planned on putting a turbo on my Patrol L28E (4000Lb truck) but now that I bought a Datsun Laurel (roughly the same size as a 910 Maxima) I want to put the turbo stuff on a spare L28 that i have and put it in the Laurel.
So the flat top engine goes into the Patrol and needs torque rather than lots of Hp. As a cam I need more lift but not a lot of duration so I was thinking of a Racer Brown 325r cam.
What do you guys think of this?
I bought one of the cranks. Shipping is expensive but a friend of mine ships a pallet to California this week so then shipping is only $100,- to California. From there it has to be shipped again.
I'm asking $700,- for the crank.
I have a 1983 Datsun Laurel with a single carb'd L24 (W24 block and E88 head). I also have a spare L28 (N42/N42) that I plan on putting in flat top pistons and a cam. This engine I was planning on dropping the Laurel.
Is the N42 better to use on a high compression build or would this E88 be a good head?
I'm sorry, I'm using the euro 280zx n/a wiring and US n/a intake manifold and tb. Before this I used my n/a 280zx dizzy on my carburated L28 and had it hooked up at the manifold. This worked good back than.
Where do I hook up the vacuum line for the dizzy? I have 2 vacuum ports on the throttle body and one on top of the manifold where I already have the FPR hooked up.
