for the stumble i would say look at the coil, and the cap, your points may be bent or off, or your dist. cap may be loose... before you take off the column, i would suggest looking at how the wiring is connected to the fusible links, if connected to the wrong fuse, the lights and tach may come on funny like the problem youre having, and play around with it, but remember which ones you plugged in to where. also, a major tuneup is in order, change the hoses while youre at it and test the alternator that may be a cause for concern as well, thats for certain, and get a new battery while youre at it, check to see if both headlights are plugged in right, mine came loose and caused the dull light in one light, if compression is good in all eight and you said one wire is messed up, get a new set its part of the tuneup anyway, and get some good plugs, the double hump heads are the ones ,i have them on mines and i love em to death, camel hump headed old school hi-po !!!! that ignition issue with the key, sorry cant help you on that one....whoa. ok youre gonna have to make sure its wired up right, and open that column up, thats easy, matching colored wires for everything down there, love it. ok try all that and tell us how you did!

it depends on budget, people here dont seem to like the toyota swap,i love the toyota swap and am going to start it up in the next month or so, they are big and they are heavy, but ive owned two toyota trucks and love the brake response and torque those things have, and could not see anything but good putting them on a lighter car with better pads and steel lines.... you could go with the outlaws, they work really good and weigh like four ounces a side, personally im toyota all the way with stock drums in the back, im gonna upgrade the rear shoes with some better linings, run a slotted rotor up front with brute stop pads, im not going to see much autocross use from these, and i dont think i will be able to see much difference from the more expensive set on the street, on the track is a different story entirely.......

if youre gonna go with those fancy motors, why not go for a turbo ka24? its what came in 240sx in us, its got more displacement than a sr20, and with a turbo built i believe it would rip an sr20 a new one all dang day, rotary, in my mind unique must mean expensive, and since skys the limit, why not go 2jz-gte or vg30dett???? you go baller...

i like the nitrous and turbo combo, that way you can run bigger turbo with that high rpm big boost with negative lag. a gnx we just had at the shop that had been built by my boss had this crazy 7th injector on the fuel rail that came one after 17lbs, and a nitrous hookup that went right to the turbo blades, beauty, pure beauty.... mid 11's in a 4500 lb car with the window down drinking coffee, thats on video tape!

i did the same thing, one day i went to open my hood, and i pulled the dang hood release cable all the way to my shoulder trying to open that sucker!! what i did is a little bit wreckless but worked regardless, i bent up the driver side inspection lid where it meets the hood, opened it, slid my arm through, very painful might i add, and opened the latch, only to find it all messed up bent and broken, went with locking hood pins after that, and invested in a battery shut off switch...

no matter what car it is, the cubes dont lie! you can beat bigger cubed cars that weigh more with a stock v8 (done it, did it again) but dont let that fool you into a false sense of security. the cost of a swap is completely relative to your personal skills, hookups, and verbal powers. the chevy swap is very well documented, and the parts are a little easier to come by, which makes it ideal for me in my situation, plus everyone i know in the auto biz can literally recite casting numbers for the hi-po small blocks and bbc backwards and forwards. the 302 motor is a great one, chevy or ford, but if it was so great in a chevy why doesnt the 2001 ss maro have one??? the ford 302 is pretty tough too, ive heard people getting 12's with that with bolt ons, i run a 327 chevy and love it....but the cubes man, the cubes... also. check your smog laws, here in california they are the strictest, and we can pretty much only legally and easily do the 240z , 1973 is the cutoff for smog exemption, which coincidentally coincides with the last year of 240 production. -280's are easier to swap and a little cheaper,280zx's have all wheel disk, an added bonus, and a more solid feel. -remember to do everything as cost effective as possible, its ok if the motor and trans are not in the best shape, the point is to get them in and functioning, then from that point on it becomes a matter of fixing a small v8 car, not a frankenstein monster.....

i would have to agree, its just not right to go through all of the hassle and pain of putting together a good car to let it get the duke of earl schieb treatment, from far away yeah it will look decent, but then you get up close and see all kinds of boo boos and crappieness, i mean you go and spend a good lot of time of your life working on the monster machine only to have earl screw up your paint and have you looking like a straight bucket?? ive been working at a body shop at night(painted a 62 vette last night, two months and this boy already got the hang for crazy angled fiberglass baby!!!!) for most of the summer now and hope the only reason any of you guyz goes to the duke is because they sponsered it or there is no other alternative...for real.

hey you cant beat it for the money with those cheapo jobs from maaco or miracle, 500.00 for labor and paint. but you have to think about the poor masking, overspray on everything,(including the engine bay , and overall crappy paint used, watch out for "synthetic enamel" that crap will dissolve if you try to buff it....... ill paint your car...........

check out zcar.com for sale section and ebay, see what they are charging, im thinking its better to take the triples off and the header off and sell them seperate from the motor, more money to be had from "purists"

oh, cmon, when you shift does your hand hit anything, mine used to hit the blower controls in third so much i started bleeding(oh the pleasure of pain!) if not, i think youre ok. you could get one thats got a slight bend kind of easily, really easily.
-
dont think youre the only one that has thought about that one.....

i think all of us with stock headlights have this problem, i like to think that the lights are for our benefit, but so that people can see me at night and not crash into me! the h4 is a good upgrade, but it will probably burn your switch out, and that thing costs 100.00 new, you could get one from the junkyard for a lot less(cough) put it in your pocket) (cough) what i plan to do one of these days is stick two hella off roads in the grill and use a toggle for them, id either run one or the other, headlights in town, and once i hit the freeway, switch to running lights and and run the hellas, lets go wangana middonite hardcore racer!

i just think that the z is too cool of a little sports car to have an auto in it, personally. theres nothing like banging gears or cruising manually, and fits the car so well. i do understand sometimes you have to go auto and it makes good sense to do so. gnx is one excellent case, you would need a lenco box or a very very very tiny shifter to be able to bang out shifts fast enough with that motor, and the autos are very consistent in the quarter. i almost need to have a stick in any car i drive, i feel i have more control over the car and theres just something about shifting for myself that makes me feel real tough. i dont know just my opinion, and its not that hard to go either way in the v8 swap as well. the only way i can see auto in a z for me is gnx swap or a crazy crazy radical bbc with a blower or two.

oops , sorry not to post this earlier, but did any of lt-1 fbodies come with the wct5???
-
this is my real curiosity, will a wct5 bolt up to the same bellhousing as a muncie??? im using a lakewood scattershield in my setup. would the same hydraulic setup also work? im using a 1"tilton mc to the datsun stock slave with a modified pushrod.
-
motorsports auto will have them jim cook jcwhitney victoria british the size i dont know.... should be like 200 front and back...

ive already been bugging my buddies at the shop about that one davy. no they say it cant be done, unless you have bucks, then you can do anything. the only overdrive you can get with a four speed is the 4+3 doug nash, and thats expensive and known to be faulty. but then again, ive seen ford trucks with four speeds that go 1-2-3 0D??? who knows. this is my real curiosity, will a wct5 bolt up to the same bellhousing as a muncie??? im using a lakewood scattershield in my setup.

thats some scary stuff.
-
watch those bushings partner, watch them bushings...i put in a solid mount, and boom, broke a mustache bar in half....bushings...
-
grafting one on to your existing hood is probably your best bet, the aftermarket hoods are really expensive, and you sill have to trim to fit, unless its oem nissan, but than your paying a lot of money. i say throw the 427 stingray scoop on it!
-
yeah the swap should be just as easy for you as us considering you guyz get the holdensand commodores-thems gots v8s,or asdavy said the rover swap, turbocharged!!!! that would be awesome, get a low compression rover 8 and boost that puppy,or go carbed turbo, even easier!
-
i think the 87-89 300zx had the 3.70lsd, stock!!! thats too low for me at the moment, but the day i get over drive, its time for right turn squirlyness! check those out, its cheaper than any bolt on unit thats for sure, and you can find them in the junkyard for the same price as an open in most cases.
-
dontthink that swap was cut out too good for autoX ,kicks ass at the strip though,
-
couldnt you just shorten the c4, its an irs and those funny car guyz do that stuff, be about the same as making a z look like that. Leonard it dont look like no vette, but he thinks hes a vette!
