  1. Oh don't feel hooked, I would have gotten alot more fish had the title been "boobies" or "blown big block S30"!
  2. It sounds like the AFM is working ok. I actually cleaned the contacts inside the AFM on mine once. Maybe you should try that anyhow. Just spray clean it and lube the slider contact with some dielectric grease.
  3. Looks great! I would add some nice red or black wrinkle finish covers over the coils.
  4. I used some eco-friendly paint stripper on the head and block mating surfaces. I let it sit for about an hour while I fabricated a heat shield for the turbo. When I went back to clean the head and block, the crud pretty much scraped right off with a plastic putty knife. I then long-block sanded both surfaces clean to 320 grit and checked for flatness. The head tapers down to a 0.002" low spot at the left rear corner. It's a long gradual taper so I think it's OK for now. I don't think I am going to have it milled because I am going to pull the whole motor and rebuild it next winter anyhow. It should be fine for casual use. I'll get up some more pics tomorrow.
  5. This began as a whistle-squeek-peep type of sound and then graduated to exhaust manifold leak sound. Eventually, it became obvious that it was at the head gasket. Of course, I was also fooled and changed the exhaust gasket first.
  6. My head gasket blew out about a month ago and I finally got around to pulling the head. This happened during tuning on the street. I kept pushing the tune harder and harder until this happened. I now know the limits of the tune on a stock long block and have adjusted accordingly. There was no loss of coolant and oil. It was a plain compression leak. 130K miles and the hatch mark is still there! The walls are smooth as glass on all cylinders. Can you tell where the problem was? Cylinder #5
  7. I could see myself getting addicted to this! http://www.autoadviceoffl.com/letsfly2.php I bet the chase car was a Z. J/K lol.
  8. Welcome and I do enjoy the magazine so far. Well balanced coverage. It must be tough to compete with the online world these days but there are still places I can take a magazine that I can't take hybridz.org to.
  9. IP can be proven proved by as little as a sketch, initialed with a date, on a napkin. Like anything, the more solid proof of IP you have, the better chance you have of winning a case. We keep notebooks of all our work and they are signed and dated periodically by a notary or a witness.
  10. reload the firmare if you haven't lately. Then reload the msq file. Also do a fresh reconfigure Megatune in the configurator. This cleared up some problems I was having with lights not flashing/flashing during my bench tuning phase.
  11. Actually, the car drives pretty darn well with the stock ECCS/injection in a fully functional state and an FMU tuned properly. You would be surprised. However, the MSII is definitely not the right place to learn basic electrical. If you are not electrically inclined, it will take you longer. My advice is to pick up another ECU, heck, I can mail you mine for shipping$ to test. I think I have three of them. My prediction for the culprit is 60% wiring flaws and 40% ECU. PLEASE: make sure all of the ECCS inputs and sensors work. It's VERY easy to do so. TPS - on off switch move the throttle by hand while reading the pins. Head Temp - simple resistance reading O2 - voltage output 0-1volt while running Air Temp - simple resistance measurement AFM - read resistance while moving the flap manually.
  12. My company will take my ideas, do all the legwork, submit the paperwork, pay the dues, put my name on the patent, usually also at least one of the superiors names also goes on, and then I get $1 and a plaque when the patent is granted! WOOO F'ING HOO! It's like leaving the waitress a penny.
  13. It should advance. Something is wrong in the computer, wiring, or distributor. Unfortunately this does not look like a mechanical problem. It is electrical or electronic in nature. The best thing to do is to swap out a dizzy and then an ecu with known working ones. If the problem persists, its a wiring or signal issue.
  14. I really like comedian Jim Norton, the third wheel on the Opie and Anthony show. Here is little Jimmy, giving financial advice, ad-lib, on the O&A show at XM Radio. WARNING: Language, PC out the window, hillarious and offensive. http://www.spreadtheonavirus.com/xmbits/Boardroom%20Jimmy%2003%20(2-21-07).mp3
  15. Very smooth driving and the car looks to be really well sorted.
  16. I would like a set to throw on my dusty panasports for track days but no 15" ones....
  17. I saw that before but I don't think they make one for us little L-series motors.
  18. Power comes from the timing maps. Once your AFR's are all in the 12:1-14:1 range all over the place with 12:1's in the high boost areas, you can begin the timing tuning. Go easy on it. Little by little. I idle at about 25btdc and I am at full advance (40btdc) by 3000rpms all the way to redline. Reduce advance by 1.5 or 2 degrees per PSI in the boosted areas. BE CAREFUL. You can blow a hole in the head gasket or a piston. Luckily, I only blew the gasket.
  19. Half assed guess. I am as I am, if I'm like?. ???..???, I am as you are? Here is a saying my old english teacher often used: "You are definitely not without a lack of talent."
  20. I believe the general engine specs are called out by the SCCA rule book for EP class. E-Production, the fastest of the production car based classes. Just in case you want to read what goes into building a spec car...for production class. http://www.scca.com/_FileLibrary/File/Production.pdf Here is a tidbit from the 240Z rules: "Comp Ratio limited to 12.0:1. Limited Prep cyl head. Valve Lift: .500” max. Carburetor preparation per Current I.T. rules. Restricted suspension preparation only (refer to PCS Section 9.1.5.D.6., Restricted Suspensions for allowable suspension modifications.) Limited Prep Transmission." "(F) 252 (9.92) Vented Disc ® 258 or 269 Solid Disc Discs and calipers from 280-ZX." I am not sure if the 280Z is eligible due to the 2.8 liter and Fuel injection.
  21. Phenominal! Almost sounds like Formula One. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=0ahZ4xg6fJU&mode=related&search= http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=m-nw2lALWOM&mode=related&search=
  22. My old dog, P3, dell, laptop, works great for surfing the web, email, and tuning. The serial port has proven very valuable. It runs XP and is the most stable PC that I have. It even gets 4.5 actual hours out of the $49 ebay "dell" battery.
