  1. Ignition timing might be off? Check the advance of the timing as the revs increase. Also check your cam timing. DOnt forget to check the air filter and any air flow blockages anywhere.
  2. It's a dream Z. Very well done. I cant wait to see it driving.
  3. Everyone should get away from civilization for a while and see what the real world looks like. Nice.
  4. rturbo 930, Exactly! what I was going to do. Except I was looking for a sheet of carbon fiber and I was going to clip with U-channel it to the rear hatch instead of screws.
  5. Well it may be first year run but the motor is not. Also the car has been in Europe for a few years already. Similar to when I bought my MY02 WRX everyone was scolding me for buying the first year WRX. The driveline was already proven overseas and the chassis was pretty much off the shelf mostly. With today's modularization and globalization, first year production issues are minimized in most lower/mid end vehicles. As it turns out, MY02 WRX has 108,000 un-interruped miles on it. Never had to go to the dealer except for a fuel line leak under service bulletin, a throttle cable safety clip recall, and a seat bolt, yes bolt, upgrade.
  6. Crossflow multiple throttle bodies with velocity stacks!!! Argh Argh Argh

It's the Targa/Widebody thing that gets me all worked up. Never ever knew they existed.

Here is what we know: Title says 79. Rear of the car says Turbo. There is some sort of factory looking boost dial in the dash. It's a Targa Top. It's a widebody. Buzz is not sure if it even runs yet, and not sure the boost dial was for an original turbo or for this blower. Weird: Never saw a targa with a widebody or a turbo.
  9. I'm not desparate enough to go switching hatches. I will drill into mine if I don't like the look/function of the stick on ones not really a huge issue for me to drill. I just really don't like the BRE type spoilers. They look like a speed bump more than a wing IMHO. I would rather have an aluminum lip with turnbuckles than that BRE molded one. I'll keep searching until I've exhausted simple and cheap alternatives.
  10. I'm not impressed by badges.
  11. I figured I could either let the ends hang out over the rear quarters or hacksaw and finish with some treatment on the cut ends. I am still on the fence. I want to try to visit some local bling-bling shops to see if I can test fit one before I throw out the money.

More photos of it. Weird, No? Widebody, Targa, Turbo, with a blower????? He has NO history on the car...it came from a barn with a good price.
  13. Imagine this. The 135i has more torque all over the place, than the upcoming M3!!! for less than half the price? HUH!!!
  14. 1) yes. 2) should work for low to mild boost. depends mainly on CR and cam choice. 3) You can make a turbo motor run clean. How clean? I dont know. worth a try. use a few good cat's. Definitely dont swap in and out an engine for every smog test. That's nuts.
  15. Yeah I bet that motor can be tuned and tuned and tuned.
  16. Yes, that's what I was thinking. Cheap, looks good, and semi-functional. I was just hoping someone else guinea pig'd it for me already.
  17. Chevy Trailblazer. I have yet to speak to her about the incident but I am curious to know more of the details. From what my wife told me, they were all belted in, but the SUV can only hold seven and I think they were eight in the truck.
  18. I can think of uglier cars....(2008 wrx) After I put it into the wall at the track, I'll drop the motor into my Z...just thinking ahead.
  19. It's official. BMW will stuff the 335i twin turbo straight six into the new, smaller, One series and badge it the 135i. They now have my full attention. So far they are quoting $32k msrp for a 300hp/300ftlb motor in a light-by-todays-standards-coupe. I think that this will make a perfect replacement for my aging WRX in a couple of years. I will overlook the lack of AWD in favor of another turbocharger and two more cylinders. It will also have track day ready brakes. 6 piston front calipers and decent rotors all around. The only gripe is that they are using traction control as a substitute for an LSD. 300ft-lbs from 1400rpm and up!!!! http://www.bmwusa.com/Vehicles/futurevehicles/new1/
  20. Wouldn't the wipe pattern shift as the lobe wore out, hiding evidence of the original wipe pattern? Or does the wipe pattern decrease in size as the lobe wears and decreases in lift.
  21. Last night, my sister-in-law, got into an accident. Her SUV rolled over after being T-boned by a car that came across the double yellow. We still don't know why the driver came across the lines. Here is the real miracle. She was coming back from an amusement park and the SUV was loaded with six children ranging from 2 to 8 years old and two adults. All of them were treated and released for cuts, bruises and abrasions. She claims that the baby seat absolutely saved the baby from any physical damage at all. All of them were wearing belts. They all got out through the sunroof. I'm not sure if any of the air bags went off.
  22. Yeah I know...it's my personal feeling to always look at another option to avoid drilling into my Z. After all options are wasted, I usually end up drilling anyway. I'm not looking for major downforce, I just want the subtle look, and a side benefit of some decreased lift. I really like the 3-pc glass ones of days gone by. They are more difficult to find now.
  23. I want to add a little something to the rear end of the Z to keep the lift down a little. The problem is that I dont really like any of the available rear spoilers and I will not drill into the hatch. There seem to be a ton of cars these days with the stick on lip spoilers. Ebay has quite a few generic ones also in urethane and carbon fiber. Has anyone found one that fits and looks OK? something like this: http://www.electrodyne.cc/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?store_code=ED&screen=PROD&product_code=44510 or this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BMW-92-99-E36-96-04-E39-ACURA-RSX-CARBON-LIP-SPOILER_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33638QQihZ017QQitemZ270151271469QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW and this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/M5-STY-CARBON-TRUNK-LIP-SPOILER-47-03-05-SAAB-9-3-AERO_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33638QQihZ017QQitemZ270151283500QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW Alternatively I was thinking of making my own out of aluminum sheet and clipping it to the rear of the hatch with custom clips and some sticky tape.
