Alcohol is prohibited in the park but there are local pubs in the area that we could cruise to. There is an amazing sports bar called The Stadium, about 20 (Nice drive) minutes away that is actually a very well known sports museum. There is sports memorabilia integrated into everything in the place. It's not part of "The Stadium" franchises. It is one of the largest privately owned sports collections in the world integrated into a bar-restaurant. Yes they have enough parking for many many Z's. http://www.stadiumbarrest.com/

It's going to be a hot one on Saturday. They are saying about 90 and I wouldnt be surprised to see more. Check your cooling systems and bring fluids for you and the car. Another issue might be parking. When it gets that hot around here you will find a ton of people coming to the lake where we chose to meet. The lot is not huge so it might fill up. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SEE POST #103 for MAPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I want to emphasize the alternate lot: If you see no Z cars at our designated spot, Basically follow Seven Lakes Drive NORTHEAST for about 2-3 miles from where our original location is. There is a HUGE parking lot that used to be a ski area on the right. It is much larger and still has some picnic areas for barbecue and shady parking.

Combustion Pressures (not another head gasket discussion)
cygnusx1 replied to cygnusx1's topic in Turbo / Supercharger
In Engineering School, I skipped an elective class called "Combustion Engine Theory". I have always regretted it. This is the heart of all the things we know and do here at Hybridz to make more power and I think it's definitley an area that all of us should educate ourselves on. TonyD, excellent and very informative post that just makes me want to learn even more. I am going to shop for some good text books on the topics involved. The more I learn, the more I want to learn which is why I don't really care about breaking car parts. Each experiment and failure is an opportunity to learn. -
There are still parts of my car that are stock. We could play a game trying to find those parts. OTOH, I enjoy seeing nice original cars as well. Nothing wrong with a little history lesson.

I would wrap the downpipe....actually I wrapped mine. Big difference in underhood temps. It's worth it.

Ever since I popped out my first head gasket I have been thinking about combustion pressures. In all my engineering work so far, I have dealt with low pressure systems in manufacturing and processing equipment design. I never really though much about the PSI numbers that were achieved in the combustion chamber other than more boost makes more power. I did some google'ing and discovered that inside the combustion chamber, pressures reach on the order of thousands of PSI and, during detonation, factors of thousands of PSI. Has anyone done a combustion pressure analysis of their engine? http://www.tfxengine.com/ Also, how does intake boost translate to combustion pressure. It is definitely NOT a 1:1 correlation. Ultimately, no matter what cam, boost, porting, ignition timing, mixture, or whatever we do to the motor, combustion pressure is what produces the torque on the crankshaft. Maximum combustion pressure is achieved during detonation. To maximize safe torque, an engine should be running as close to detonation as possible, without detonating. The more frequently, or the faster you can create, combustion pressure continuously, the more horsepower you can make. http://www.tfxengine.com/SuperchargedEngineData.html Inside the chamber, the ignition occurs, the pressure is greatest at a singular point for a instantaneous amount of time. Then the pressure propogates from that point and spread out over the area of the piston and chamber. As it spreads it's force over the piston, it is not evenly distributed at first. Little by little it becomes more evenly distributed as the piston begins changing direction from compression stroke to power stroke. Any engine gurus care to elaborate, clarify, correct, contribute to an intelligent discussion?

With flourescent ink on the gauges the UV light would look extremely nice. Unfortunately, I am too darn lazy to take apart all my gauges and trace the lines with ink. If I take apart all the gauges to do that, I would just go with the electroluminescent faces. If you have the patience and the time, I would love to see the result. Here is a link to the UV LED's. http://www.bgmicro.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=11721 You can power them up in parallel groups of "three in series" with 12volts.

Aviation racing, autocross style and some whirly-bird aerobatics
cygnusx1 replied to BRAAP's topic in Non Tech Board
BRAAP, I saw one of those events covered on high definition television. I think the channel was INHD or INHD2. Amazing indeed. -
They listed Rally racing and F1(open wheel) as one of their subjects on the website.

Myth BUSTED! I got the UV LED lights and hooked two of them up to a 9v battery. They are much brighter than I thought and can nicely illuminate the gauges in a flood of purple blue light. Unfortunately, the white ink that Nissan used on the gauges has no flourescent value at all and just remains dim and dull. The only thing that really lit up brightly was the HybridZ patch on the dashboard. It was pretty cool walking around the garage and house trying to find anything flourescent. I found that in general, any white cloth will light up. Any white labels, or flourescent labels like the orange and yellow grocery store price stickers reflect UV like a beacon. Oh well. Someone with white faced gauges might want to try this out.

NWS! Another reason why alcohol & fireworks don't mix..

We snuck up behind a guy when we were kids, and lit the gross of bottle rockets he had sticking out of his back pocket. Brings back memories. -
I think we can decide what to do when we are there. There are definitely options. Windy country road drives. (nice roads all around the area) Evening Fireworks Display at Cold Spring about 15 minutes away. Paintball Feild in NJ Hang out there, barbecue, swim, hike. West Point visit, about 15 minutes away.(not sure if it's open but I think so) Native American Festival going on that day about 10 minutes away. There are also some local Saturday Evening car shows in the area if anyone wants to stick around. Let's play it by ear.

Yes 8/4/07 at 2pm Eastern (if you are drivng from really far away) at Harriman State Park in NY. Maps are in a zip file attached above in post number 103. Basically it's just on the West side of the Hudson River near the Bear Mountain Bridge. Cell phone service is sporadic in the area but I get reception on the thruway and the river.

How did Nissan do it in the 80's with the Electramotive Turbo cars and or the V8 cars? Worth a look.

Baracu's topless Z is absolute sex. Tough competition for all the girls that might be on the little beach.

Yeah let's support this channel. They are going to have a tough time as it is. Mainly because it's tough to pay for airtime when you don't have a celebrity regular to sell products like NASCAR has. I like to believe that we are the type of car people that look past the hype and look for smoke, rubber, oil, and gas, types of motor events. I don't care if Shaq is driving or Farmer John G. Brown. I just want some good, racing that I can relate to, learn from, and be impressed by. Whatever it is, I don't want my driver thanking "Mrs. Butterworth" for her support or Viagra sponsored donuts in victory lane! Come On!

Official time is 2PM. I am going to bring some snack foods and stuff. There are barbecues in the area we can use if anyone brings charcoal. I'll see if I can pick up a bag of charcoal and a few burgers. Everyone can bring enough stuff for themselves to grill up. Alcohol is prohibited in the park...so it's at your own discretion.

OK but do we need 115 shows "about" NASCAR on TV? I think I watched one guy explain what a NASCAR coil spring does for an hour this weekend. I ended up dumber than I already am.

Weird. Why was the truck cruising the shoulder? I also didn't see any other drivers react to the situation. I call shennanigans.

I just got the following email from NASA. I am all for it. We need REAL racing on TV. Pass this along. "Dear NASA Fan, You are receiving this email because your email address is in NASA’s national database. We very rarely email everyone in the database on a national level, but there is some very important news. A new all-racing network channel is about to launch in 2008. It will feature many forms of racing. NASA will have at least 10 hours of 1st-run programming (plus reruns) during 2008. This means that you and/ or your race could be shown on this network (even HPDE will be featured!). However, new networks such as this need help to show that the service provider would gain subscribers. Please take 30 seconds to clink on the link found on this page http://www.theracingnetwork.com, and enter your email address. There is no obligation; this is merely help to get this network on the air. Your email address will not be sold or given out. I hope you can help; and thank you for the understanding regarding this rare emailing. This will not be a regular thing. Sincerely, Jerry Kunzman Executive Director"

I would worry only about humidity levels in the storage area and mice. I use mothballs to keep mice and insects out. Works very well. Use the authentic mothballs in the engine bay, interior, glovebox, and any other nesting spots. I think that you could just put in fresh oil, drain all the fuel, spray some oil in the cylinders and maybe the strut shafts, and you will be fine. If you take the wheels off, spray the rotors too.

Take a look at these maps. The parking lot is a good size and has a lot of shady parking. We will meet here. If the lot is full, there is another lot about 2 miles North of this one on Seven Lakes Drive as an alternate. Coming from the North on 87, I suggest taking Central Valley exit for Route 6 East (Long Mountain Parkway) to the circle and get on Seven Lakes Drive into the park. TriState Z meet MAPS.zip

Is the venice a dual core? If not, upgrade to a nice dual core. The resto of the system is perfectly fine for an HTPC even to run HD Video. I use about the same system for my HTPC running Windows Media Center. It is the COOLEST thing since sliced bread. We watch all our movies, timeshift TV, record TV, All my photos, my camcorder movies, all my music, weather, XM radio....you name it. It's all in one box. I use Dual MCE TV Tuners from nVidia and they control two independant HD cable boxes. One box is dedicated to the PC for it's own use and one box is "public". I can record two shows simultaneously. The ONLY Gripe is that I dont have HD capable TV cards so when I record widescreen HD content it plays back widescreen SD. I tried Vista and went back to MCE for compatibility reasons. I use the Asus A8N-SLI MB AMD 3500+ processor 2gigs of 2-2-2-5 RAM Dual 250G Drives in RAID-0 config. A single 8000 series nVidia video card. ( I think it's the one you listed) Dual TV Tuners from nVidia with Remote Controller for Media Center. A standard mid tower case on it's side in the TV stand. Playback on a Samsung 50" DLP Just pop in a Dual Core AMD, Dual TV tuners, and go! Everything else is good.

Cracked Pintles are OK but you dont want them blocking the spray pattern or breaking off and falling into the motor. The seals look like the real deals. Look in the injector swap sticky. I posted a link to a guy that will change the pintle caps for you for cheap. You can also buy new pintle caps on ebay usually. I also think you can run them with the pintle caps removed. Although they may carbon foul pretty quickly.
