That diagram came from one of the "my turbo swap wont start" posts, somebody had posted it to help out. Apparently a guy who has done this swap before made it. Yeah, I dont know what the inhibitor relay is, nor can I find it in the turbo car anywhere so thats got me pretty stumped. The yellow wire going to the coil reads dead all the time, key on, cranking, dead. And yeah I did follow bumblezees turbo swap guide. I hooked everything up originally based off of that. I studied it like a bible for the longest time, thinking, clearly I just must be missing something or read something wrong. Then I got fed up with that write-up because it didnt seem to be getting me anywhere so I branched off into alot of other "guides" with a lot of "mis-guided" info. Ive tried nissan dealerships around my area for some info too, ha that was a joke. I was litteraly laughed at and told "nobody here wants to mess around with anything that old." Nice.

Ok, I am starting to feel a little better about this. Dont quote me on this, but I think we have located the problem. Which, of course presented a new problem, I put two red arrows pointing to what is missing from the wiring we did. This is one of many diagrams we were trying to follow. Please maybe a picture, an explanation, something, what are these and will it stop the car from starting.

Well we tested the 4 wires and and came up dead on all of them. Bad news I know. We traced the wires back using the FSM and they go straight to the computer, so that means they should be getting power from the computer? Wierd thing about that was the wire colors going into the computer didnt match what the service manual was telling us they should do. Next session were going to open up all of the wires looms, label everything, trace everything. We figured that was the best baseline starting point since we cant seem to get anything done focusing on just the ignition stuffs.

sooo let me get this straight, if I have no power coming through the CAS, The computer won't tell the coil to fire. Now, how do I get power to the CAS?

hey I got one for sale! In the parts for sale sec. http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php?/topic/90655-1982-280zxt-donar-car-r200-bw-5spd-misc/

unbolt the header and run the exhaust right out of the block, that'll fix it right up

Yeah that picture was just of a section of wire that i wasnt sure about. I'm pretty sure it came off the old wiring but i keep getting confused from reading too many "my car wont start l28et swap" posts lol I'm getting no spark from the coil, and no pulses from the yellow wire on the coil. I'll have to check the CAS then. Its a 45minute drive over to where the car is, so if i could get some help ahead of time, what should i troubleshoot next if I am/am not getting pulse from the CAS? Also the coil being bolted to the body (in the pic), that is enough to ground everything out there? All help is much appreciated, my frustration is palpable when i work on the car now. I used to really enjoy it, I hate electricity

is this what i am missing?(attached pic) I apologize but all these wiring diagrams seem to be having the opposite effect on me that they should, i am more confused than ever lol. The info is good though keep it coming. I know eventually ill read something and it will all make sense. Maybe if i could see a picture of a properly hooked up ignition in the engine bay...

ok, so i am heading back over to work on the car tommorow, so i need to go back with some new ideas. I attached a drawing i did on paint of the way i have the distributer/ignition wiring. Please tell me if anything looks wrong The other thing i wanted to add that i forgot to mention in the original post is that for everytime the starter turns the flywheel like 10 times we got a little blip of a spark..which made us think that everything was hooked up right, and we either had a bad connection somewhere or some component was bad. We rechecked all the electrical connections and the turbo donar car started great so i dont know. Could the coil be bad? Is that why we're getting intermitent spark? I know the diagram i made is a little rough, if you need me to make a new one i will. untitled2.bmp

I will literally blow this car up soon if i dont get it to start. I swapped an 82zxt motor into my 78 that ran great and started great in the zx. Now nothing. the car sat here at my house for 3 months before i got fed up with it and then sent it over to a mechanic friend of mine who i said i would pay large amounts of money to if he could get it started. Now, i am over there with him everyday still trying to get it to go. We have narrowed it down to a bunch of different possibilities, one of which is the fact that there is a flat prong on the front of the distributer that has nothing connected to it. We hooked it to power and it just about fried the car. Hooked it to ground, nothing. So my question is, what does this go prong go to? The haynes manual is a mess when it comes to just about anything that i actually want to know and were running out of ideas Please Help. Pic attached

i'd replace the slave if its as sloppy as you say, i had a similar problem and the fork broke and stuck real wierd so i could get some pressure back into the clutch pedal but no actual clutching lol. plus its like a 25 dollar part, cheap fix if thats what ends up being wrong
-
just look at all of my busted up knuckles and such, plus the boxes and boxes of parts sitting in my house for a car that hasnt run in 5 months and you'll know the level of commitment lol

what color are you looking for?

Ignition wiring PLEASE HELP (I've searched)

Plus, with the key turned there is 12v in both the negative and positive terminals on the coil.. hmmm -
Ignition wiring PLEASE HELP (I've searched)

Ok, so I went and bought a multimeter, pretty cool tool and helpful. Now I know that the black wire on the ignitor is getting 12v when the key is on and the yellow is getting none. What is troubling is that the yellow jumper wire between the 8pin connector and the ignition harness (the one they say "DO NOT CUT" but I cut by accident and then patched) is getting no power at all either. Now can i splice the yellow wire coming off the ignitor to starting power? Maybe from the ignition switch? I realize this is one of those things that "you really gotta be there" to really understand what I'm talking about, but your input is still greatly appreciated. -
Ignition wiring PLEASE HELP (I've searched)
jhill replied to jhill's topic in S30 Series - 240z, 260z, 280z
Well that's exactly what I thought I needed, yet, I still have no spark. I feel completely retarded, and my car has been sitting in the garage for a month because I cannot figure a couple of wires out. When small things kill a project it is so frustrating. -
Ok, so i am doing an 82zxt swap into a 78 280z. I am like 95% on everything, all i have left to do is fill her up with fluids and figure out the ignition wiring and i why i dont seem to be getting any spark. Im pretty good at putting fluids in so that just leaves the wiring. I have searched and read bumblezee and zeeari's threads but i am just useless at wiring anything (i even get my stereos installed at bestbuy..ripoff). I think i have most of it right except i cant figure out where to put the yellow wire coming out of the 8 pin connector that needs "start 12v power" and the black/white wire coming out of the ignition harness that needs "switched 12v power". As i understand it those are the only two wires that need power and that i should be able to splice them into the existing ignition switch in the car already. Problem being is their is 4 wires (black/white..black/yellow..white/red..blue/red) and i dont know where to splice. I know this has been covered many times but i am doing this swap with no outside help and i am what you would consider a "novice", especially at electronics. So if you you guys that have done this swap tell me where to put those two power hungry wires, or at least point me in the right direction, or maybe tell me im completly wrong i very would very much appreciate it. If you need a refresher on the wiring setup heres the post i referenced before Ignition scroll down the page for pics also tell me if you are confused on my writing and require pics to see what im saying Thanks, Josh

Quick question... is the timing chain/tensioner from my 78 l28 going to work in the l28et? The turbo engine seems to be pretty solid minus a horrid timing chain noise and since i never had a lick of trouble in that area with the old motor i figured if they match up ill just change em out. I'm taking christmas eve off to make a nice 4 day weekend and hopefully at least get the new engine/trans from the donar Z into my Z. I figured i'd change out stuff when both engines are out make life a little easier and try to stay on schedule

Any help is much appreciated! Im trying to get this running 100 percent before the swap

what is the donar car? another 280?
-
long hood, slung back rear, i'm feeling the s30 look
-
Its definitely not the fan, i figured thats what it was at first so i checked it all out and it clears everything just fine. The alternator fins dont appear to be bent at all either. I took the valve cover off, and while im not exactly sure what to be looking for, everything looked alright. The chain did have some play in it but it didnt feel like anything crazy.

This is my donar car, just got it for 400 bones. It didnt fire over at first so i did a little tune up oil change, plugs, wires, distributer cap and rotar, fuel filter. It started perfect and idled nice but im getting this horrible noise. I think its something to do with the timing chain, HELP! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3aq3kbM_fR8
