  1. I have the same welder. I have a Stick/Arc welder but it wasnt working out on the thin metal of my Z. I watched someone using the cheapest HF welder to shave handles on a truck. It worked out perfect so I bought one myself for $85.00. I have used it on body panels also for filling in holes and it works great. Of course its not the greatest welder I have ever used and I personally wouldnt trust it on framerails as I dont believe it penetraits enough. As for small body/panel work, its a great tool to have and well worth the $25.00 you spent.
  2. I used a sample kit of POR 15 to try on my engine bay. I tried it on a small section of the radiator support. It has only been on for about a month so I cant say how long lasting it will be. I can say that it is the toughest coating I have ever seen! After I let it dry, two days later I beat it up at angles with the back claws of a hammer. It wouldnt chip for ANYTHING, and it took several hits to get it to break through to metal. I have no doubts that it is permenant. I ordered alot more the next day.
  3. How much are you guys lowering your z? I have seen pictures of s30 with 1" lift and the tires fit pretty snug without being tucked up in the fender.
  4. Forget price difference and forget lowering capability. why would you choose one over the other? Also, if you chose the kit, would you get adjustable shocks? I plan to lower the car 1-2" with a 350 / 5sp swap for street use. May go to the track once or twice.... Lets see your opinion!
  5. I am fairly new to painting but have done two vehciles and several small panels. One thing I have learned is that the time spent on prep work is usually the same whichever route you want to take. If you are spending that much time cleaning it up and scuffing it down, then pay the extra money for the automotive paint. They will outlast ANY rattle can job. $450.00 sounds like a very good price to me. I know for a fact how much time and effort he will be putting into your engine bay(if he does quality work). It is no easy task and the paint he is using is much more expensive and will last you years. A friend of mine had his mustang painting a few years ago. Just the roof and front bumper was $2500.00. An entire paint job was $7,000.00. This was the best price he could find next to crapt-o-bake.
  6. If I were you, I would buy a cheap gun and spray the car. I would suggest white because white hides blemishes better then darker colors and orange peel is harder to see in white. I have sprayed reduced rustoleum on furniture. You really cant beat the price for a temporary solution, it turned out pretty good.
  7. I just sprayed a quart of rustoleum gloss black on some furniture. I reduced it 50% and it sprayed beautifully! I just used acetone to reduce it. It layed out really smooth and even though it was reduced alot, it still had good coverage.
  8. I would say it boils down to what your future plans are. If you had intensions to gut the car and put it on a rotissie, then floor pans ,frame rails and battery tray wouldnt being a problem following a good sand blast. Then again, if its not a show car, patch it up and call it a day!
  9. About to blast my car and would like to get the bottem but dont have a rotiserie. Is it light enough for 2-3 guys to put on and off a trailer? Car will be completely stripped.
  10. Thats exactly what im looking for! Yall keep them coming so I dont have to convince my girlfriend of a once in a life time vacation to Arkansas!
  11. Email sent! Anyone else know of a good blaster? Im sure several of you have had your cars blasted before......????
  12. Ive had my car blasted once and the guy was worthless. Got my money back and sent home in the rain which was a disaster. I tried doing it with a HF blaster but cant keep up with the rust thats forming. Anyone know of a good blaster that I can also trust to prime the car after there done? Im willing to travel. Im sick of my car rotting away!
  13. Thats exactly what im looking for!!! How much would you pay for one of thoughs used?
  14. Want to start gathering parts for 350 swap. Curious on the market for T56? Whats the most you would pay for used untested?
  15. 76 280z. My hood is pretty rusted out so I would like to find another is better shape. Tell me what you got and how much. stevenjf88@aol.com
  16. I know the metal on the s30 is paper thin in many areas. Trying to find a sandblaster to take care of the hard to reach areas including the engine bay. Have you guys ever had a bad experience with paying a sandblaster? Anyone ever completely eff up the body of your car? Should I stop worrying about it and just go for it?
  17. Just picked up a 350 block for my 76 280z. Got it for free and have plans for a 355 build. Vortec heads, mild cam, Nothing a 2 bolt main cant handle (350-375hp). I am new to engine rebuilding so im looking for a good picture website that shows the entire breakdown and build up. I want to get farmiliar with bearings, seals placements... anything I will need to know. Got any useful links?
  18. I have read quite a few parts descriptions that say they are for 350's up to 1994. This is a 1998. Im sure everything is a bolt on swap but why are the 1998 350s rarely mentioned?
  19. . The 350 came from a 1998 Chevy 3500 Van, unsure of the other. Cant find anything telling me if the 350 is a 2 or 4 bolt. Any ideas?
  20. Whats the code for that blue? I love the triple color scheme. It looks amazing!
  21. Most small compressors give off less then 5CFM(Cubic ft per minute). Most HVLP guns use around 10CFM. If your gun is using 10 cubic ft per minute of tank space and your compressor is only pumping 5CFM. you will have to wait for the tank to build up air every 30 sec or so.... If you decide to go with a smaller compressor, I advise you to get a commercial brand like Ingersol Rand. The compressors in chain store(from what I have heard) are estimate ratings on the specs and arent actually what they say they are. I would also research a good name brand gun that doesnt require more then 6 or so CFM. I cant remember which ones they were but they are made.
  22. I wouldnt get less then a 60 gallon tank with 12CFM. Dont really pay mind to the PSI. Read the specs on the gun you will be using. Most guns take more then 10CFM. If you get a compressor close to thoughs specs, you can atleast paint sections at a time while you wait for it to build up.
  23. My roof had alot of bondo caked on as well. If you use a torch to heat it up, it scrapes off really easy. I used a small propain bottle with torch tip and a metal scraper.
  24. Its looking great! Makes me want a ttop 280zx really bad!
  25. I use my HF purple for primer. I have seen pictures of some REALLY good paint jobs coming from the HF cheap gun. If your on a budget, I say go for it! Learn to wetsand and buff, then shoot a single stage non metallic, or base and clear. You wont get a showroom quality paint job but if you learn to adjust the gun right, you can have a good finish.
