  1. Well, in regards to your 2nd point, you're free to assume whatever you like. I would have thought it would have been taken as the joke I MENT it to be, but either way, it was still funny to me.. Really, people thinking like that gives me an advantage, imo. You woudn't be expecting a V8, seeing as I'm a moron.. BTW, I'm really not sure on the year, but I AM positive this car was a 2nd gen supra. (looks similar to the old nissan 200sx's) And either way, in my book, a RACE is from a stop, not 60mph.. jeezz.. I guess it was silly of me to even talk to the guy, cause if I didn't get the typical 'supra attutude' or 'anti rotary attitude' I STILL would have got the 'you're an idiot' attitude by telling him I jamed a pushrod V8 in my Import car.. oh well.
  2. Hard to permanently destroy a city yes.. but if you loose enough of it, it will sometimes be abandoned.. I can't remamber the name, but I'm sure there is/was a city in Russia that was destroyed and basicaly abandoned.. Makes sence to me; after a ceartain point, why bother? It would be easier to rebuild somewhere else wouldn't it? Kind of like... starting with a less rusty car to begin with, so you save time and $$$ in the long run..
  3. Ooohhh.. that was subtle.. I know that it may have caused some on here to get riled up, but I felt I could speak my mind on this mater... regardless. This seams to be a tolerant place for the most part.. Someone's opinion is just that, and they're entitled to it. I agree it was a silly place to build a city.. and even more silly to ignore the problem as it got worse over the years..
  4. Maybe a silly thought, but I like to keep it simple stupi... you know. Have you pulled the throttle body apart and cleaned it really good? My truck has close to the same engine you're runing (VGsonmthingorother..) and before I had the 'constant high idle problem', it would do what you're describing.. Idle up to around 12-1400... sometimes stay, sometimes drop to 900... ect. I know you're ecu has be re-programed, but I think it could still be getting 'confused' by a strange reading from the TPS.. which it would base timing and fuel off wouldn't it?
  5. I can get you some before pics this week probly.. Just noticed my frame rail pulling apart due to the large sway bar stressing it. The whole front end of my Z was repaired before I bought it, and I left it alone. Now 2 years later, I'm starting to notice how bad it really is.. There won't be any after pics for a while though... I'm taking the car off the road the end of the month, but I may not have a space to work on it this winter, and I'm wanting to do it right. IE; motor/rad pulled, suspension and x-member pulled, prety much replace evrything from the rails up.. about 8".
  6. If you search a bit, you'll find lots of info.. and a few posts by me for sure. I did exactly what you're thinkng, just in a 280Z. My stock FI was junk, and I started pricing out fixing it.. well.. I don't have over a $1000 to spend here, so a set of SU's w/ manifold and a 280zx distributor for $150 was the way I went. Oh, and I bought a generic 'carburation fuel pump' (3-5 psi)for $60 to replace the stock FI pump. Now, I have since rebuilt my motor and it has a HUGE cam in it (compared to stock) therefore doesn't run so great with the SU's anymore.. They just cant give it enough air...but last year (before the motor upgrade) it was great. Took about a week of fooling around, tuning, learning the carbs, and it was great. I'm considering going back to a FI setup, but not the stock one, only for the sake of fuel milage.. My carbs may be for sale soon...
  7. Not meaning to offend people here, but I say LEAVE IT BE! Forget it.. clean up anything hazerdous (fuel, dead bodys, ect) and walk away. It is a lost city, and maybe if it's left as a of monument of sorts, people will think about things a little more.. Why in gods name would you even THINK about doing that AGAIN!?!? Not to mention I'm getting raped for gas all the way up here in Ontario, because of this mess!!
  8. Well I wouldn't call this rash, but I have decided to finish up the current RX7 V8 I'm building (really, it's ready to go, minus a hood and rad fans wired) and put it up for sale. Any questions' about why are easily answerd by a simple "Have you SEEN the price of fuel lately?!?" Also, I'm going to gather all my misc. parts/box's of car stuff and pack it into the pathfinder in the back yard. $300 parts vehicle becomes make-shift storage facility, and then aside from my tools, it can all be 'removed' quickly. The tools, well thats two boxes; into the pickup truck easily, along with my music equipment/clothing/ect. Honestly I've been thinking of these things the past few months anyway, it's just that NOW... well, I feel I should be a little more prepared, cause 9 months isn't a long time... an I feel I have to get a plan together and carry it out, before winter really hits... Not that I have a clue WHERE I'm going to go...
  9. Well, it's safe to assume it is mine, as she hasn't been with anyone in 6 months. Oh yah, she has a 4 year old too.. father is gone. I trust her, and know she's a decent person.. Not what I wanted to do right now, but such is life I guess..
  10. So I've done something really stupid, and now I'm going to pay for it. For the next 19 years or so... Um.. background here; me and the girlfriend have been having.. issues.. lately, and really, I've been wanting out. A couple weeks ago she went camping for 3 days and I stayed here. I thought that might help things a bit (time away, you know) but it didn't really work out like that. She called me 'just to talk, you know' a total of SIX times in those 3 days. This is one of the many issues that has been bothering me about the whole relationship, and I'd had enough. (there's a lot of crap I'm not going to get into) So, I went out with some friends one night, and ended up seeing an old girlfriend of mine. A bunch of us go to her house, hang out, we talked for a while, had some drinks, you know where this is going... By the end of the night, me and this girl are the only two people still there. So here I am today, working on my car, and my girlfriend brings me the phone. It's my buddy Brad, who I work with, and who knows what 'things' happened a few weeks ago. "Yah.. uh, dude.. are you alone? You should sit down..." Faaaaack... Seams my old girlfriend called him up crying. She missed something this month, and there's a good chance I'm going to be a father. (those tests are what.. 99% acurate right? ) Now.. I know this probly makes me a terrible person, but I'm thinking I won't tell my girlfriend.. Really, there is enough other 'crap' that merits me leaving... Still, I didn't want a kid right now.. I'm only a 3rd year apprentice (and therefore make $hit money..) and I don't really have my life in order.. I do NOT want to be on of those people who just runs away from this, or ends up resenting the kid for anything.. I had hoped to 'enjoy the ride' for a while longer... build a few more cars that 'have no usefull purpose except to have fun' , have no comitments, and do whatever I want whenever I want... Oh well. Guess it's time to 'man up' and buy a vinivan..
  11. My girlfriend's 02 Grand Am has a 2.2 ecotec and I have to say I'm impresed with it.. The first time I drove the car I was SURE it had a V6!! She's said.. No I think it's a ...4.. cylinder? I literaly pulled over and poped the hood as soon as I found a gas station cause I had to see it. Seams to be a tough little mill too..
  12. I dissagre.. I'm not bent out of shape over this guy, but just thought it was funny.. I'm a car guy.. I just like lots of cars. I could never understand the 'brand loyalty' mindset that some of these people get. AKA "the supra guys" or "The mustang guys" or whichever you want to tlak about.. THEY feed the stereotype as far as I'm conserned. I have found I like Nissan's in particular, but I've also owned Audi/VW, Toyota, Honda, Mazda, Jeep, Isuzu, Ford and each had it's pros and cons. I once raced a local hick in his claped out 81 Malibu (fuel leaking 305, rot box of a car) in a Ford Escort GT I had for a bit. This was one of those guys, Chevy is 'the best' and evrything else is junk. Just a light to light afair, but he barely nosed past me! (and yes, he WAS standing on it) I thought it was funny as heck. We pulled into a coffe shop and he starts going on about how stupid I was to try and race him in my POS Ford, I should have known he'd beat me, bla bla blah... Comon man!! Your V8 is suposed to be able to beat my little escort!! Do I care? Did I feel the need to make excuses or cop attitude? Nope. It's just a car man, it does what it can do. I just can't help but laugh at these people though...
  13. Consult? Pardon my ignorance, but I have no idea what that is.. I assume it to be some sort of data link/programing tool similar to LS1-edit? I have yet to look at the dizzy very close, but I assume it to be similar if not identical to the Z31 units.. As for the oil pump, I thought they were all the same (the turbo being a higher flow model) and IIRC I already HAVE a high volume oil pump installed during the recent engine re-build...
  14. About my crapy TBI motor.. well, my rx7 V8 swap is a 'budget build up' for now, and the motor/tranny (well, a whole caprice) cost me $160. Cheapest TPI I found around here was in a trans am and it was $500, so being a cheep a$$ you can see which way I went. Later on, if I keep the car, it's no big deal to drop in a built TPI motor, re-wire, ect. Right now, it'll 'git er done' I still think it'll give that guys Stupra a run.. He was obviously not from the area, but most likely has a cottage or something up here... I hope he's in the area in a few weeks when I'm on the road..
  15. Funny, 3 replys and 3 of 3 posible replys I figured I'd get. Megasquirt; Cool and very tunable, but I don't have it.. I'd have to shell out cash, AND make a new harness, ect ect. I already have the pathy, and the previous owner was driving it problem free until 2 weeks ago when the belt snaped. I'm pretty sure the system is in good shape. Heck, the cap and rotor were in better shape than my daily driver pickup! (I really gota do a tune up on that thing...) SU's; well, they are easy enough to tune, this is true.. but mine are getting to the point of needing overhauling, AND I still say they just arn't adequate for my motor anymore. To start buying/fiddleing/sanding needles and boring them out, re-bushing them, ect will also require me to spend money.. From what I can see, all I'd have to do is weld a bung into my exhast for the 02 sensor, and modify the z intake to accept the VG throttle body/injectors, sensors. The rest would be 'plug and play' really.. I just don't know if the VG ecu is going to be able to 'adjust' to my L28's needs.. but I assume that it has a better chance than the stock 280 FI. Heck, that didn't even work right when the engine was stock!
  16. I was driving through a parking lot tonite, and spotted a REALY nice 2ng gen supra. 88-89 maybe.. Nice enough that I had to drive over and have a look see at it. Perfect black paint, very nice 5 star rims (MOMO maybe?) and lowered 'just' the right amount. A subtle lower body kit, blacked out evrything, nice subtle spoiler on the back and a decent looking exhast (read> NOT a fart can with 5" tip) I thought.. dang, thats nice, and I bet it goes like stink too.. (small 'Turbo' sticker on the rear. Only sticker on the car..) So the guy comes out of the nearby McDonalds and gives me a funny look. I say "Nice supra man.. I think I want to paint my car black now! " He says "Oh yah? What have you got?" I tell him I have an 86 RX7 I'm building right now. It's 'ticket me' red, so I'm thinking of changine it next summer. The guy says "Oh..an RX7? heh. You wont catch me!" I tell him not to be so sure.. yah, he might get me up top when I run out of gear, but I'll give him a run.. (I didn't tell him it's a V8 swap) He starts to rattle off all the things I'd have to do to my silly little rotary engine to even come close to him, and I'd still blow up anyway, yada yada.. I looked at him and said "Nope, I havn't done any of that stuf.. I DID put a cam shaft in though.." He looked confused, "Uh..sure.." and I just laughed as I drove away.. Hope I see him out some night..
  17. Ok.. given the insane gas prices lately, and the fact that it's going to get even MORE insane very shortly, I'm faced with two options as I see it. Take the Z off the road, or convert it back to FI to regain SOME milage, and hopefully save a bit of $$. Currently, I'm running a fairly stock L28 with a slightly shaved head, 510/280 cam and SU carbs. It will only run on premium. (I tried mid grade, it didn't like it at all) It also likes to suck it back at an alarming rate, partially because I have to run it fairly rich. It seams that the stock SU's just can't cut it with this cam, and If I don't run it rich on the bottom end, it falls on it's face at higher RPMs due to starvation. Runs WOT like a champ, but that's hard to do in town a lot.. ANYway.. here's my idea; I have a 92 pathfinder in my back yard that I bought for parts. (power optioned doors and front fenders are going on my 93 king cab, maybe the brakes too as they were just changed, spare driveshafts, ect)) It has a 3.0l V6 with a snaped timing belt. I got to thinking.. hell, it's all there, maybe I could take the 3.0L FI system and plop it into the Z! I still have the stock 280z FI intake manifold and fuel pump.. and considering I just wired up a GM tbi motor in a mazda rx7, I can't see how hard it would be to go Nissan to Nissan.. (yah I know, bitch about gas prices then build a V8 hot rod.. but that thing will run on regular, and IMO, in a light car, even the stock tbi 350 is overkill on 'power required' for a fun street car. ) My question isn't really 'can it be done' (because I KNOW I can do it)... but, would it work? I was told when I bought the cam that the 280z FI would not like it, and become.. confuesd. I didn't care though, I had carbs. The pathfinder HAS to have a more updated FI system though, being almost 20 years newer.. I know some folks use the 300zx ecu/sensors/? on their L28 turbo's and that's esentialy the same system (3.0L VG engines) as a pathy or king cab.. But will it be able to 'handle' my L28? What say you guys?
  18. Yah, I was thinking of doing a renegade V8 conversion to a 924 a few years back.. Had a line on one with a dead motor for $600, but I made the mistake of telling the seller what I was planing. He got a little upset and wouldn't sell me the car. Oh well.. I built a V8 RX7 instead... I've always wanted a V8 914 though.. maybe in a few years..
  19. Holy crap... I gota see if my local costco has those!! My boss has two like that (well, they're a different color..) that we keep all our cap screws/nuts/washers/ect in and from what he's told me, just the box's (as in the case with 4 empty bins) are over $100...
  20. Damn.. I just watched something on the TV about it.. Get the hell outa there guys!! Good luck..
  21. Just for $hits & giggles... is this a runing/drivable car, or is it a candidate for an LS1 swap?
  22. Another possibility is your tranny.. Could be some slop in the output shaft/driveshaft yoke and it 'kicks' when you go into reverse..
  23. Oh yah, those Volvo turbos are cool..(My fater had a 240 and a 740, both turbo wagons) but if it were ME well.. a 302/T5 would be in there so fast your head would spin.. as well as the tires. They are great cars man, no mater what's powering them. If you search around some, you'll find those old box's are actually very well designed, and are good handeling/smooth riding cars. Good luck man!
  24. You've been busy lately! Just thinking... would a 280zx brake M/C + booster be of any use to you? I happen to have one here... oh, and a pair of 3 screw SU's in pieces too.. (I'm trying to clean up the garage a bit ) Soo... what are you up to on the 30th?
