Awesome vid man!! Love the sound.. hoping to get a similar sound out of my 280 this summer. Gave me goose bumps thinking about driving my Z this summer... dam winter is hanging on here though..

Hey man, I dono what your price range is, or how far you're willing to travel, (you're really not that far away) but I saw an 81 ZX for sale in a local buy&sell, says its had the body restored, but need interior TLC. $4000. There's also an 82' asking price $3500....

Hope you get her back... I found my first car (81 280zx) two summers ago. Saw the backend sticking out from behind a house, so I turned around to check it out; A guy had picked it up for parts and was finishing up cutting the front x-member and suspension out of it. Interior was guted, engine trany were gone, and the windshield was the only glass left in her. He said I could have it if I wanted (I'm 99% sure the ownership would have still been in my name) but I let her go to the crusher.. So sad...

yup yup yup.. A good friend of mine has rode bikes for years, and all without an accident; Until last summer. Came up a ramp onto a highway, road was a little wet (just stoped raining) and the traction dissapeard. He told me as soon as it started to go, he thought "well, here comes the 'when'..hope I don't get run over.." Luckily, the traffic was light (10:30 at night), he managed to lay it down fairly smooth, and slide off to the right hand paved shoulder. Bike got a few scrapes, and his leathers were a little wrecked, but he got back on and rode home.

I bought my first car when I was 18. A $600 craptacular 81' 280zx. (spent a couple months pathing it together, and getting it mechanicaly sound) Got lucky and found an almost identical car in a local wreckers, and got a lot of good parts cheep. It was pretty reliable too.. major rapairs aside from the body work, were a rad, rebuilt starter, and a few blower fans.. I still don't know why they kept burning out.. The transmition would grind a bit in 2nd and third, the rear end made some crazy nioses, and the ride was a bit rough but the thing NEVER left me stranded. I started my own policy with the same ins co that my mother had, and because she had her house, car, and me (with my car) living there, I got a pretty good discount. Just basic coverage mind you, but it was affordable. I say go for a Z, just take/borrow something a bit newer/automatic for your drivers test.

Look up a member here name "ZR8ED" for some good info. He's done the swap, and the car is complete and driving, so he should be able to help you.

highlighting number 7 doesn't show anything though... damit..

Personal opinions aside (I don't like the look, some people do) I'm pretty sure white is NOT legal to use for signal lights..

I would think any zx R200 would bolt right in.. maybe a change in driveshafts or pinion flanges would be required though..

I have an older haynes book for pickup and pathy 80-93. I found one electrical diagram that looks like the circuit you're describing.. It shows a big wire from the battry to the starter, and a little two wire conector going to what apears to be the starter solenoid.. but it only shows ONE wire making it to the starter.. labled B/P. Don't know if that helps..

I saw one of those 'wild police chases' once.. There was a hotrodded camaro riping donw an interstate at over 120mph. Of courese, with a dozen cruisers and a helicopter after you, I can see how driving that fast would be harry enough. Add the fact that the guy couldn't drive fery well, and you have dissaster. Tried to loose the cruisers by ducking in front of a rig (hard right)and taking an off ramp at those speeds. Brakelights taped for a second, and the car skidded and rolled about 10 times. Then the guy doing the voice overs said something that made perfect sence; "Just nother case of a high performence car, with a LOW perfomence driver." I've done my share of 'stupid' things and thankfully lived long enough to know my limits now. The V8 RX7 I build years ago was blast to stomp the peddle, but I really couldn't handle it that well. Not to mention I did SO many things unsafe and 'half ***' during the building of it. I actually took it off the road because I had to hide it.. had ah... bit of a high speed chase, lucily I made it home in one piece.. but it's a small town, and I'd probly have gone to jail if they caught me. I still drive aggresivly, but not recklessly anymore. Even last year in my Z with a hurt motor and dead suspension I could keep up with about anything on winding roads by the end of summer, because I spent the first few months 'learning' the car and bsaicaly working up to faster speeds and harder corners. I'll have better suspension and more power this time around (I think 225horse will be plenty for a street driven Z) and I'm planing to take my Z to some auto-X this summer and learn to drive it a bit better.

Yah but.. WTF is the clue?!?!?

ZX Down for the count?
datsunlover replied to Gollum's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
You may be into replacing them anyway.. if they've come out too far and seized, you're probly screwed as far as getting them back in.. I've ran into this on many vehicles.. -
Or if you're a cheep *** like me, do some searching here and elsewhere (online) and you will find a few good chunks of info on tuning SU's floating around out there...

Just an update; I got the other stock guages finished, and they turned out pretty good. I ended up byuing an aftermarket triple set (Oil presure, water temp, Volt) that I'll put a little lower on the dash (near the stereo I think...) so I.. *ahem*.. 'changed' the one stock guage face. It 'was' a combo guage for oil p. and temp. but is pretty much useless now, as I have more acurate aftermarket ones. Although I will hook it up so the pointers move, it no longer says oil or temp... He he he..

Thoguht I'd add this tid-bit.. A member here (ZR8ED) put a VG turbo in his Z and his words were "In the end, I could have had a V8 in there easier and cheeper. Lots of $$$ and fab work." The RB IMO would be a little easier to make 'fit' than the VG, and in the long run, is a really slick swap. BUT: Personaly, if I didn't have the funding for an RB, I would do a V8 before a VG swap (comparing esentialy stock to stock here) The ford or chev 8cyl will give more bang for the buck and be cheaper, as well as require less fab work than a 6cy turbo transplant. Figure in the extra weight/cost of the turbos, I/C, and pluming, the electrical.. eeek.. It's up to you either way, that just my opinion.

Well I suck, and can't get past stage 3. I simply can not see 'into' those stupid puzles. "hidden images" or whatever they are called...

Dono how many of you folks watch that show, ussualy a bunch of yupies eating worms or doing discusting/stupid stunts to win $50g's.. but tonite, I was interested in one particular one; Drive a car over another car (had a ramp on rollers built on top of it) as many times as possible in a given distance. Stunt car was a late 80's Camaro, caged and sounded like a healthy 350 under hood. heh.. After 3 passes (if they made it) the 'ramp' car would start swerving left and right. Man I would love to do that.. Needless to say, they TOTALED 4 cars. I was wondering why they took so long though.. they'd get over the ramp, but then really take their time moving over and slowing down to let the ramp car overtake them.. seams to me I could have done it a lot quicker..

I just asked my engine bulder about this very issue. He said with the GM/Ford/Mopar V8 stuff he ussualy builds, it's not even a question. It's so cheep, you're asking for trouble by reusing them. Kinda like not replacing the a water pump... Looking at my Z engine though, he said it'd probly be just fine to reuse them; They are bigger/tougher than the typical domestic head bolts, and new 'nissan' ones are gona be a little pricy. I'm not going past 10:1 c/r or turbocharging either, only doing a cam, port matching intake/exhast, and SU carbs. Hell, he said he's re-used head bolts in chrysler 2.2 turbo engines with cranked boost and er... abusive driving and not blown head gaskets/motors..

*steps back three, just to be safe* You know, I was thinking about this today while working on a project.. I'm in school for apprentiship training (general machinest 2nd level) and in the shop clases, we were told "Work like you were working in your own shop" Ok.. so I had to cut a woodruf key seat (little half moon shape) in a part, and had no idea how to figure out the procedure. I'd never done it before, and was a little confused... All the other guys are buisy on their projects (this is the last week, pretty intense) and the teacher is buisy marking parts/tests. What was I to do?!?! Well, I got out the books/papers and started fliping pages. Between a text book, a chart, and a previous classroom hand out, I figured it all out. Took about 1/2 hour. I cut the key, cleaned up the part and handed it in. Managed a 98% too.. This way of working through things is ussualy how I find info on here, and other web sites and seams to work well... Oh BTW, has anyone ever put round tail lights in a Z? I think it'd look cool...

I'm thinkng you're talking about the PCV valve hose? It's hard to see, but it hooks up just in front of the exhast maifold to a 'pipe' sticking out of the engine.
