Heh heh.. nice work man! What did you use for the faces? I used glosy white photo paper on mine (see my post a while back 'home made fak-0-meter guages) but I kept the stock lighting.. just removed the silly green plastic 'covers' from the back of the guages so they shine bright white.

Looking for engine mounts in canada..
datsunlover replied to a topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
A few years ago I bought an engine/tranny mount kit for my 85 RX7 from a guy just south of Ottawa. Buisness name is Python conversions I believe. (He also builds a complete body kit for the rx7 that resembles a viper crosed with a vette.. really nice looking) He was a good guy, and the kit worked well. Now, fitting a sbc in a first get rx7 is a tighter squeze, but similar in concept to a Z.. Maybe try contacting him and see if he can help you out. I'm thinking if there were enough intrest from folks in Canada, he might build a kit for the Z car.. -
Nice vid.. too bad he got poped.. I pull stupid crap like that in my Z, but ONLY in parking lots.. because thats what happens when you do it on the street.

I'd check the solinoid, or better yet, first check that the ground and positive cables are hooked up secure and not loose.. But really, it sounds like the starter has possibly bit the dust..

I've been there, cursed them... I find most aftermarket panels are pretty awefull.. Fit isn't good, holes are not 'quite right' (locations are off) and most threaded holes have to be chased prior to actually putting a bolt/screw in. Ussualy the primer they spray on them gets gumed in threads and can be a biach. I spent at least 6 hours trying to get front aftermarket doors to fit right on my bosses 89 suburban.. they still don't line up right to this day. Not to mention ALL the holes for power window motors, latch mechanisms, ect, had to be elongated/re-drilled..

Man, that is awesome! Looking good, cant wait to see it finished! I'm thinking about pulling a 'copy cat' (maybe) and doing something similar in my 93 king cab 4x4... 277 thou on her, and it's had a hard life (previous owner worked construction, I drive it pretty hard) but it's still a good truck. I figure for the $2000 I have into it, I'm doing ok. Consider the trany is getting worn, the u-joints need replacing and if the engine blows, (which may happen soon.. ) I'd be looking at at least $2000 anyway to 'fix her up'.. I know where there are a few 300zx turbos, rotten but running..

My mustang buddy is all hot and bothered about that coats head for 5.0 stangs.. Had dreams of fitting them to a 351W and driving in the street with 800 horse under his right foot.. This guy is scarry enough in his 89 Volvo 760 turbo! I'll admit I had no love for pushrods when I started getting in to cars.. Learned to drive in a VW jetta, bought a 280zx for my first car, had lots of imports over the years. My family always had imports, one of my uncles even refers to ANYTHING domestic as nothing more than a"tractor" (as in; slow lumbering farm equipment) BUT one day I got the idea to build a V8 RX7 (305, 350th auto) and HOLY MOTHER OF GOD that thing was FAST!! And.. it.. had.. a pushrod engine?!?! Sure there's some more moving parts, and they don't rev so high.. but I don't think that makes them junk.. If not for the price of fuel and lack of personal wealth, I'd be doing a V8 in my Z...

Tread Rubber shoes GRIP
datsunlover replied to WickedWild's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Yah if I was gona go drag racing on the weekends, I could justify a set, or even two 'drag race specific' tires mounted on another set of wheels. That way you can get the best tire for street use, but at the trak switch over to the more 'drag freindly' tires. I had a set of hoosiers on my old 85 CRX and loved them. That thing was like an overgrown go-cart! Mind you trying to get a good launch was hard, as there was a lot off wheel hop (hard sidewalls I guess..) so the (ahem..red light) drags were not that cars forte'. -
I think the Dealership was for sale (rant!)
datsunlover replied to Chaparral2f's topic in Non Tech Board
Well, I feel your pain.. evry time I go.. well, ANYWHERE for something related to my Z I get the same crap.. Try explaining why you want 1984 300zx rotors, pads for a toyota 4runner AND longer than stock Z wheel studs, (which are stock for a honda civic.) Personaly, I'd just rip off the p/s pump, plug the lines and drive without. Thats just me though.. -
I'm wondering.. is your check valve good? If it's bad or backwards, you'll loose vacum.. But..ah.. with the engine off, does the pedel pump up and go hard? Or is it soft even then?

Need set of Injectors for 1977 280
datsunlover replied to Samwise05's topic in Trouble Shooting / General Engine
I've got a set from my 75 280, if those will work for you.. Dono what shipping would run you though. (I'm in Ontario Canada) -
I have a few, but they arn't very good quality. Also, I'm suprised in part because well.. they are not very 'nice' looking. I was learning to weld at the time, and although it's solid, it looks like the dogs breakfast.. All I did was take two lengths of 2x2" tube (.100" wall I think) and put them up into/in place of the original 'rails' by cutting the lower flat part off all along the floor. At the rear, I attached two short pieces of the same tube (welded to the long tubes before instalation) at an angle.. a bit less than 45* iirc and saw cut the other ends so they'd fit up to the stock rear subframe. Before going in the car, they sort of looked like this: ______________/[_ _______________/ At the front, I just welded them on to/into the factory floor/firewall tc rod area. On a proper hoist/lift, the car will rock a bit (about 1/8" or so) so I know they're not perfectly parallel to eachother, but I'll live with it. I'm working on the car in a proper garage now, and have a better camera.. I'll see if I can get some better pics.

dude.. very nice! But.. will it see the light of day this year..? So.. tired of sanding yet? heh.. I feel your pain. Nice work man!

Seat choice for the narrow S30 interior
datsunlover replied to blueovalz's topic in Body Kits & Paint
Ahh.. I don't think so.. I replied to your PM before I noticed your post here (pop up said I had mail, I went right to it) I'm thinking the seats I have are from the previous generation Si's.. -
Seat choice for the narrow S30 interior
datsunlover replied to blueovalz's topic in Body Kits & Paint
I've got honda CRX Si seats in my 75 280. (the recaros) The door panel touches a bit, and they sit slightly higher than stock but they hold WAY better than the stockers.. I had to use the drivers side on the passengers side, and vice-versa to get the recline handle to fit, but they work. There are a lot of choices, and alot will fit better but I wasn't going to complain about $25 for the pair! (I have some friends in wrecking yards ) -
I finaly got around to instaling the rear wheels today, after much pain and suffering last week (changing to longer studs, building spacers, ect, to mount my recently purchaced 'cheep good deal' 16X7 rims.) AND a few scrapes and cuts.. Anyway, I had the rear of the car on jack stands (jacked up by the rear diff to put them there) and instaled one wheel, then decided to drop the car so I could roll it out of the garage a bit to reposition it. (there was about 12" or less of working room on the drivers side) So to remove the last stocker and put the 'new' rim on, I just jacked the one side up. The wheel needed a bit more space than the stock 14", so I kept jacking.. then.. "creak" the jack starts to tip forward!! I stop and sit back, waiting for the worst, but it doesnt happen.. WTF? I look towards the front of the car and notice the FRONT wheel is now off the ground by about 2"!!! Wow.. So I get a jack stand under there, drop the jack, and install the last wheel/tire. Whew.. I did some quick math; New rims/tires end up about 1.250" bigger in diameter than what I had (185/60/14s too small, I know) so figure I had 1" between the tire and floor to hold the tire with my foot as I spun the nuts on.. I guess this means my frame conectors/sub frame are making their presence known! Just a weird thing to see the whole side of the car up when there's only one jack, just in front of the rear wheel...

When I swaped on my 280z bellhousing, I looked at the two side by side.. and IIRC, I decided NOT to simply bolt it up (although, indeed it would..) because it seamed to me the angle would be too much.. I'm guessing about 25-30 degrees. I figured it wouldn't be doing any favors for the fluid, as the fill plug would end up LOWER, therefore how would you get the proper amount of gear oil in there?!? Also, it looked like the shifter would be manageble, but weird.. First gear would be about where 3rd used to be..

I would think the main reason for folks not responding to this would be simply a lack of knowlege or a proper answer to your question, nothing more.. At least thats what I've come to expect from most members here.. To the question; I'd agree with the tps thought.. I'm not sure if they changed it somewhere along the way, but my 75 280z had a TVS (throttle valve switch) that was just basicaly two positions, only one of which would be conected at a time. I'm pretty sure the ZX's went to a TPS (throttle position sensor, which is the potentiometer) but am unclear on something. perhaps a few 280z's got a tps? Anyway, when I was trying to sort out my rough running/sputering FI'd motor, I messed around with the tvs and at one point, just to see, rigged a newer TPS to it.. from a 91 escort GT I believe (same size box, "DENSO" sticker on it, fit right on.. upside down though..) and had simmilar revving issues. 600rpm, up to 3000, back down, up, ect. Barring that (say you.. swaped on your original tvs/tps to the new throttle body) maybe there is an air flow problem now that the ecu can't sort out? If the new throttle body is 10mm bigger, that would mean.. a 5mm flat surface/obstruction that incoming air has to 'hit' coming through the throttle body.. Maybe I'm way off, but thats what I'm thinking at this moment...

Right.. now, did some 300zxs come with that one, or were all the first gens (that came with LSD's) the clutch type?

Good score man! My boss started buiseness in his garage with a little mill that was.. well, pretty much a drill press with a tiny 'mill type' table (X an Y movement table) and I've often thought about building one for myself out of an old drill press (just for garage use, basic stuff).. My boss has an old digital readout about as big as my computer screen, but it works.. And a lot of older drill presses are built pretty tough and sturdy.. Well.. I got me an idea!

Holy crap.. I about pissed my self on that one! I especially liked the one with the caption "F$#% theres gum on my shoe!" ... But man.. some crazy photshop skils there... Where do you guys find this insanity!?!
