  1. I agree with this completly... I too see at least 4 or 5 wrecks evry day, and I live in a town with only 14000 ppl!! It's not always a young person, but it IS always someone not paying attention while driving. As for the age to drive, I think even 16 is too young... Heck... I almost died/caused accidents countless times when I started driving! It is something that is next to impossible to explain to a 16 year old though... that a collision at 40mph can be deadly... cause hey.. thats not too fast really.. and it's only a cell phone... and cars are so safe with the air bags, ABS, ect....right? I took a few close calls for me to straighten out.. but I was lucky... Im still here right?!? See if your local wrecking yard/towwing impound will let you walk through with this kid... See if you can find a good wreck and point out the bits of hair and clothing stuck in the smashed windshield, and the spots of blood on the seats, ect. That might get past the attitude...
  2. Yah, I had issues with mine.. it would prime for about 5 seconds, then the car would fire up... but if the car stalled, it would keep running! I think it was a problem with the afm, but I have since ditched my FI in favor of SU carbs. I still have the whole harness, sensors, ect in a box... if you figure out what you need, I'll see if I have a replacement for ya.. I'm not looking to make money here BTW.. just seeing if I can help out...let me know.
  3. Ok, I'v got the car running ok, but I think it still needs fine tuning. BTW, it's a 75 280z with 72' SU's carbs. I can't find any vac leaks, and both carbs seam to be set quite close (the engine runs pretty smooth, idles about 900 rpm) BUT: After warm up, it has a bit of a bog as I rev it up.. then after it cleans up itwill climb to redline no prob.. but when I let off the gas, it drops down to about 4-500 rpm and wants to stall. Usually, it catches and picks up again, but sometimes it needs some input from the throttle. I have to check the timing (I think it's a bit too advanced) but want to know if anyone has has this prob.. It's running pretty rich too (burning my eyes in my garage!) but if I try to lean out the carbs, it sputters and runs worse! Anyone?
  4. That's the best thing I;ve seen all week! LOL
  5. I just wanted to say 'thanks guys' for any and all help you've given me over the last year or so. I was out in my garage a few min's ago, staring at this thing I have brought back to life... and started thinking about everything I have done on my car; all the welding, sub-frame, total body/paint job, SU carbs (car used to be fi) zx dizzy, 240 bumper, and a bunch of other things. Most of this stuf would have taken me months to figure out, understand, and do without the help of a lot of the members on this board. Right now, the car is sitting there patiently waiting for me to drive it now. I have to get the safety check done (a guy is suposed to look at it tonite for me..) and get plates/insurance. but it is DONE! Evrything works, it looks good, and it runs great (A little rich.. but I can deal with it! ) And yes, pictures will be coming soon. I just have to remind my friend to bring his stinkin camera over here! Anyway, Thanks again guys! Matt G
  6. Does that 710 have an inline 6 or a 4 banger? If it's the 6, I'd asumme it's the same as the Z motor... if its a 4, I'd think a 240sx (or older 80's 200sx) engine would probly fit in nice... might even mount up to the stock engine mounts in the 710..
  7. That would be when your car reached the end of it's life span, and nothing could be fixed on it ever agin. You'd just have to buy a new car, because even the dealership could not tell you what was wrong with it.
  8. Sorry man.. that sucks. I JUST got mine painted, and I am sure I will fall victum to a ding very soon. And although mine is only a $200 cheep whilt, Im gona loose it for sure. One time I returned to my 85 200sx (fresh spray bomb red paint job ) to find a BLACK ding from the suv next to it. Needless to say, that suv now has about 10 red marks down the side of it! Oppened the door all the wau along as I backed out. ding... ding... ding...
  9. That is insane! I still wouldn't drive one... if anything, I'd build a turbo Sundance. At least they look a little better, and you can find more of them standard shift. Still a 'sleeper' looking grocery getter.. but man I just HATE minivans! I'v always said, before I buy a mini van I'd get a mid 80's Volvo Turbo wagon. I'd probly cry though if one of those vans smoked me in my Z!
  10. Yah, a friend of mine had an 85 T-bird with the 3.8 and it.. uh, sucked arse man. Gutless wonder, blown headgaskets, and daily oil changes. Im not a fan on ferd auto tranys either.. they seam fine, and then... yech.. not there anymore. I'd pass on it man.. go for an import with a standard IMO... I once bought an 85 200sx for $500, put $200 into it (front struts, brake pads, and tune up)and drove it for 2 years with NO problems. They are out there.. I'd wait.
  11. AHH!! Yuppy mobile!!!!! J/K man, those are nice rides. My friend's parents drive nothing but 4runners. Tough as nails, and AWEsome 4 wheel drivers. They are on their 4th one now (95 I think), but looking at something newer like that. Good deal!
  12. WOOHOOOO!!!! ITS DONE!!!!! A few spots I should have done a beter job with, but it's a 'for now' job anyway. what do ya want for a $200 paint job! And yes, I touched a few parts before they were dry ( doh..) But it's ok. I got all the chrome back on it, and all except the headlights/fog's yesterday, and today I (oh my god this was scarry!) CAREFULLY drilled the holes in the doors for the mirors. Got the whole thing cleaned up, scrapped off all the overspray on the windows (mosty primer; I didnt have the windows masked for most of the 2 months of body work.. doh again!) and instaled the weather striping on the door jams. BTW I discovered that the weather stripping from a mid 80's Renault Aliance works PERFECT in a z, and even resembles the original stuf! Just got to get the quarter windows in and the rest of the interior panels tomorrow. Then change the rear flex lines, and off for the safety check! Dono if my $$$ will hold out for insurance so I may have to wait another week or so befor driving, but it's ok. it'll give the thing time to bake on the paint in my portable shed; it's like a green house in there! And yes, the pics will be coming soon.. just need to get the digi-cam from my friend. Hopefully tomorrow!
  13. Wooohoo!!!! The car is at the paint shop and should be ready for me to pick it up tomorrow morning! Just gona chill out and have a few beer's now. But not too many; dont want a hangover tomorrow when I go to tow the car home! I'll post pics as soon as I get it home... well, shortly after I guess.. About 8 people are suposed to come over tomorrow to check it out so I might be a while standing around enjoying my pretty white car.
  14. That was awsome! Well, the driving that is.. not cool to steal someone's car and bash it up like that.. but MAN that fool could drive! (I say 'could' cause something tells me he's never getting behind the wheel of anything again..) Dang....
  15. That is awsome! Man.. I could build something like that too.. The shop I work in does all kins of tooling/fixturing using componants like that. Valves, air fittings/lines... its all just lying around at my shop! Well, it's packed up right now..moving to a new shop, but I think I'll try to build something like that for my RX7 V8 hybrid.. (next project.. heh heh) Very cool...
  16. Actually, that 'saved' money isnt really saved.. cause I didnt have it anyway! Work is gona be slow for a few weeks, and I've ear maked $200 for the paint, and another $125 for carpet/geting the car safety checked and plated. That will get it on the road assuming nothing else crops up. If it does, I just can't spend any more $$$ fr a few weeks and the car will have to sit. I hope not though!
  17. Yah.. actually, that's what I would do.. it's easy enough, and cost is like $.50 in fuel! Could just be a clogged fuel filter too, which is something I would change anyway after just purchasing the car. Good luck, and do be carefull!
  18. My thought would be the AFM needs some adjustment... IMO, with that kind of work done to the motor, the stock AFM would not be very good.. You could try to tighten up the spring tension on the wheel inside the AFM.. or maybe play with the air bypass screw (I believe thats what it is..) in front of the throttle body? Thats all I can think about right now..
  19. Yah well now that you own another car, and went to another forum, you're not welcome here anymore. You shouldn't post anymore. Just kidding dude. Cool car, really. I wish I could aford one! And I think it's good you got rid of the ferd flucus too! Have fun man!
  20. Oh trust me man, I have been taking my time! I've been building this car for over a year, and I've been on the body job for almost 2 months now (theres some pic's in my album) I have done enough of this stuf now to know that crappy prep = crappy paint finish. I'll admit it IS getting tiresome.. BUT I'm not rushing, and I'm being picky enough that my friends/girlfriend all tell me "It's going to look great why are you so unhappy with it?!?" ...meh.. I'm going white anyway, so it'll hide a lot of stuf. All I have left to do is prime the air damn, and spot puty the whale tail where it molds to the hatch. I think 5-6 hours tomorrow is LOTS of time! And if the guy can't spray it tomorrow, oh well.. I guess I'll have to wait.. but I'm gona hold out hope! I cant really complain though.. he's gona paint it for $200 Cash. But still...... Hmmm hmm... waiting.... waiting..... waiting...
  21. Hmm.. well thanks guys for the quick answers there! I'm not sure what I'll do now, but at least I know it's an option. I'll have to check on the price of a new one here (Mid-Ontario) and as for salvage yards, good luck! Around my neck of the woods, all the Z's have gone to that great scrap yard in the sky by now. Eventually I want to go with the Yota 4X4/300zx disks in the front anyway, and got to thinking it might be to my advantage to keep the booster, as oposed to ditching it. And I will go through the whole system again, just to be sure it IS the booster, before I rip into it and start replacing things. Thanks again guys.
  22. Yah, thats what I'm doing now. I MIGHT get my car painted tomorrow night (friday) if the guy isn't too busy. BUT: I have to wait till tomorow afternoon to go and se him to find out! Then if it's a go, I have to rent a dolly, drag the Z down, mask it off and do final prep. Then drag it back to my place saturday morning to start the re-assembly (Hee hee.. Im all excited!! ) Man.. the suspence is killing me though! I have this afternoon and tomorrow off work, so Im gona spend most of that time walking around the car with spot puty, primer, and scotch-brite pads. Oh.. and cleaning up the gynormous insane MESS in there too.. As far as I can tell, I just need to buy some carpet to put in and that's IT! Evrything else is patiently waiting to be put back on/in the car. (like it has a choice.. it's car parts.. anyway...) I'll be taking a bunch of pic's before it goes, and then after it's put back together so I can post up a couple of true 'before and after' shots. So.. uh... I wanted to ask...could you guys cross your fingers/toes/eyes, or pray, or ... whatever you do.. cause I REALLY want this to happen this weekend! Anyhoo.. I beter go and do something now... Later guys.
  23. Just resurecting this post here to pose another couple of questions: I believe my vac assist is shot. (could be the line/valve looking thingy but I dono..) I was talking to a friend of mine, and he suggested taking the vac assist right out/off the car. IE; mount the master cyl right to the firewall/brake pedel, and just have completly manual brakes. So here's the Q's: Is this possible? And if so, is it advisable? I know I will be dealing with a harder pedel (more leg work.. meh) but I need to know if the system will work properly like this. Anyone heard of this or done it? Thanks.
  24. Man... I was ashamed of myself just for puting a few dabs of bondo on my car.. I havn't even used half of a little can and the car is pretty much done.. Yuck... Hehe.. I bet if it got hit, the whole mess would just fall off the car as one piece and then you could start fresh with the factory fenders! Looks like he put it all on right over the paint... sheesh....
